Abstract

The purpose of this article is to reveal the signs that exist in the novel in terms of moral values and the form of women's struggle according to the content of the story of a novel by Hanan Al-Shayky entitled Hikayat Zahra. In the story, Zahra represents a woman who lives under social and patriarchal pressures that limit her freedom. Through Zahra's journey, society can reflect on how rigid norms and patriarchy can harm individuals and the importance of a more inclusive, just and humane morality.  The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method with the semiotic approach of Charles Sanders Peirce. From the signs that appear in the text, the researcher focuses on explaining the struggle of women and moral values.  The results of the study show that there is a sharp and emotional narrative style, Hanan Al-Shaykh (the novelist) presents a critique of patriarchy and violence, and describes how individuals can be destroyed in an oppressive environment. By describing morality and the form of women's struggle, it is hoped that readers can understand that morality is not something static, but something that develops according to the existing social and cultural situation.

Abstract

Abstract: Children's literature provides children with a personal experience through its dual function as a medium of education and entertainment. Works categorized as children's literature also embody aesthetic values that are important for the development of the mind and emotions. One such form is poetry, a beautiful Malay art form that has existed since ancient times. Poetry is not only intended for adults but has also attracted children to read and appreciate it. The problem addressed in this study stems from the gap in previous research, which has given little attention to the aesthetic values in children's poetry. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify and analyze the aesthetic values in Kumpulan Puisi Kanak-kanak: Buku by Mahaya Mohd. Yassin. The study employed library research and textual analysis, guided by the Teori Puitika Sastera Melayu proposed by Muhammad Haji Salleh. The findings reveal five aspects of aesthetic values embedded in the work, namely aesthetics from the perspective of emotions, nature, language, human creation, and wisdom. These five aspects successfully demonstrate the richness of aesthetic values in Kumpulan Puisi Kanak-kanak: Buku by Mahaya Mohd. Yassin. Hence, it is hoped that this study will provide meaningful contributions to future research on children’s literature, particularly in discussions related to aesthetics.

Abstract

Abstract: Procedural text is one of the materials that must be taught in Indonesian language subjects. One important aspect in learning activities about procedural texts is analyzing the linguistic aspects contained in procedural texts. However, learning to analyze linguistic aspects in procedural texts experiences obstacles. Students have difficulty analyzing linguistic features in procedural texts. This is evident from the pretest scores which show that around 39% have not completed (scores below the KKM). Therefore, Classroom Action Research (CAR) was carried out by applying the RAUT learning strategy adapted from genre pedagogy. An increase in completeness was seen after the implementation of cycle I by applying the model. Student learning completeness increased from 39% to 66%. In cycle II, the student completeness level reached 88%. This shows that the 4M learning model supported by effective media and teacher attention is an important factor supporting the success of learning activities.

Abstract

Abstract: This research is motivated by the low academic writing skills of students caused by learning that is still theory-oriented and does not involve direct experience. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving the academic writing skills of first-year students of Guidance and Counseling (BK) UNUGIRI. The research method uses a quantitative approach with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects consisted of 60 students who were divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected through academic writing tests and analyzed using the t-test. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups, where students who studied with the PjBL model showed a higher increase in academic writing skills. Thus, the PjBL model is effectively applied in academic writing learning in higher education.

Abstract

This article examines the complex interplay between spatial representation, power dynamics, and ideology in crime fiction, specifically comparing Agatha Christie’s Golden Age detective stories with Raymond Chandler’s hardboiled urban novels. Utilizing theoretical frameworks established by Michel Foucault, Henri Lefebvre, and other spatial theorists, it investigates how space in these works functions as a dynamic agent rather than a mere passive backdrop. In Christie’s books, the enclosed settings of country estates and English villages—characterized by moral scrutiny and social hierarchy—serve as ideological microcosms where crime, investigation, and societal restoration occur inside regulated confines. In contrast, Chandler's Los Angeles exemplifies spatial disorder: a disjointed, ethically ambiguous maze where knowledge and understanding falter beneath the burden of modernity. The study contends that both authors convert narrative space into a tool for social critique, expressing cultural worries over order, authority, and knowledge through meticulous textual and theoretical analysis. The paper posits that detective fiction transcends a simple puzzle genre, functioning as a cartography of contemporary consciousness that delineates the conflicts between containment and disorder, visibility and secrecy, conservatism and revolt.
