Abstract

The protracted Arab-Israeli conflict, characterized by socio-political dynamics, has endured for over fifty years, pitting the Palestinian and Israeli factions against each other. The issue in question possesses historical origins, since it can be traced back to the relationship between two brothers, Ishmael and Isaac, who share a common paternal lineage. The figure of the son of Abraham being sacrificed, as interpreted in Genesis 22 and QS. Al-Saffat 99-113, is a subject of debate among both Jews and Muslims. This article aims to explore the interpretation of Genesis 22 and QS. Al-Saffat 99-113 by employing anthropocentric and theocentric perspectives. The objective of this study is to examine the interpretations of Genesis: 22 as the Jewish Ideological Basis in relation to Jerusalem, and QS. Al-Saffat: 99-113 as the Islamic Theological Base in connection to the legacy of Abraham's milah, which has had an impact on the socio-political landscape leading to the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East. The biblical and Qur'anic narratives recount the tale of Abraham's progeny, who were destined for sacrifice. The anthropocentric reading of these words serves as the historical foundation for the divide of the land of the covenant, which was inherited by Ishmael, the progenitor of the Arab people, and Isaac, the progenitor of the Israelites. This study exclusively relies on library sources, encompassing interpretative literature, Old Testament texts, books, journals, notes, and reports from prior research endeavors. Moreover, this study is classified as qualitative as it yields descriptive data.  The findings of this study demonstrate that the religious interpretation of the Scriptures has exerted a significant impact on cultural and political movements within the Arab-Israeli region. This influence encompasses both the ramifications of territorial conflicts and the effects of peace treaties, such as the Abraham Accord.

Abstract

This article describes a case of social interaction between ethnic Mandailing and Javanese in Pasar Singkuang II Village, Muara Batang Gadis District, Mandailing Natal District, North Sumatra. This study focuses on forms of inter-ethnic interaction, the problems they experience, and efforts to overcome them. This is a qualitative-descriptive study where data is collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data is processed using descriptive analysis procedures from Miles-Huberman, borrowing social interaction theory as an analytical framework. This study found that in the case of the Mandailing-Javanese ethnic group, inter-ethnic social interactions were associative through social cooperation and acculturation. On the other hand, their interaction is also dissociative because there are inhibiting factors such as communication problems and differences in the ethical values and norms of each ethnic group. These obstacles are overcome by being open to others, adapting, and avoiding negative prejudice. In addition, this study found that in inter-ethnic interactions, religion exerts a strong influence both as a communal identity and through social-religious activities, so that their differences can be merged and strengthen social integration.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the ethics of students (santri) at Al-Fath Student Islamic Boarding School from the perspective of Plato's ethics. Al-Fath Islamic Boarding School is located near the campus of the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) in Kediri, and it specifically admits female students, the majority of whom are IAIN Kediri students. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach involving a literature review and historical reflection. The study showed that the ethics or moral values observed in the students of Al-Fath Islamic Boarding School share similarities with Plato's ethical teachings. Plato's ethical philosophy emphasizes virtues as its core doctrine, with a focus on how individuals can attain a higher level of virtue through the cultivation of the soul and an understanding of the essence of the world, which is largely a shadow of the world of ideas. The foundation of Plato's ethics is his love for the Supreme Good, which, in the context of this boarding school, refers to God as the ultimate reality. Al-Fath Student Islamic Boarding School has a vision that encompasses morality, knowledge, and active participation in society, with morality or ethics as the primary goal of education, supported by knowledge and an active role in society. Allah, as the God of the universe, serves as the foundation and ultimate goal in achieving happiness through ethical conduct, aligning with Plato's ethical teachings that lead to the Supreme Good.

Abstract

The elimination of myths and religion in modern society has resulted in the despiritualization of religion and the demoralization of spirituality. The predominantly materialistic and positivistic approach of science has created a spiritual and humanitarian crisis, perceiving nature as a lifeless mechanical entity. This perspective contradicts the beliefs of our ancestors who revered nature as a living entity akin to humans. This study elucidates the relationship between myths, religion, and science through the perspectives of Karen Armstrong and Jalaluddin Rumi. Armstrong asserts that myths and religious laws are not true due to their alignment with metaphysical, scientific, or historical realities, but because of their life-affirming nature. Rumi, in his view, illustrates that knowledge that penetrates the soul requires spirit and emanates from the sublime realm beyond reason and words. This perspective amalgamates myths, religion, and science into a unity that respects spiritual existence and regards nature as something far beyond the comprehension of ordinary human beings.

Abstract

The important principles in Islam that emphasize simplicity, balance, tolerance, justice, and respect for differences reflect the profound teachings of Islam and play a key role in maintaining social harmony in diverse societies. Overall, religious moderation in Islam is an approach centered on values that promote tolerance, peace, and appreciation of differences. This is a relevant and essential principle in an increasingly interconnected and diverse world, where a deep understanding of Islamic teachings can help resolve conflicts and promote harmony among different religious communities. The research method used in this study is a literature review (library research), with a research approach based on the analysis and synthesis of literature relevant to the specific research topic. The literature review method can be employed to gather and analyze relevant text sources, including books, academic papers, journals, and other sources discussing diversity, humanity, and moderation in the context of Islam. The results of this research show that religious moderation provides a comprehensive overview of the importance of religious moderation in Islam and how values such as tolerance, national commitment, anti-violence, respect for tradition, welfare, justice, balance, humanity, and diversity are applied in the Islamic context. In the modern era, where communities are increasingly interconnected and global challenges such as extremism and radicalization arise, understanding and practicing religious moderation is crucial to promoting peace, harmony, and cooperation among humanity.

Abstract

The concept of Imam Mahdi holds a special place, but differences in beliefs and interpretations regarding Imam Mahdi within the Sunni community have led to confusion and even disputes among Muslims. To gain a deeper understanding of how Imam Mahdi is viewed from the perspective of Sunni tradition and the differences in beliefs and interpretations, this research will delve into the complexities of these views and identify different frameworks of understanding. This will help us appreciate the diversity of Islamic thought and how these understandings impact religious practices and the perspectives of Muslim communities. Furthermore, it will underscore the importance of inter-sectarian dialogue in today's increasingly complex Muslim society. The research method employed in this study is a literature review, based on the analysis and synthesis of relevant literature on the specific research topic. Titled "Imam Mahdi in the Perspective of Sunni Tradition: Differences in Beliefs and Interpretations," the findings suggest that al-Mahdi plays a crucial role in elevating the status of Islam and the Muslim community to their true potential. This will enable the Muslim community to shield itself from the negative effects of materialistic modernization and blind imitation of traditions that may not align with Islamic values, as conveyed by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The term 'Mahdi' refers to an eschatological figure in Islam, believed to come in the end times to establish justice throughout the world. In the Shia Islamic perspective, Mahdi is the twelfth Imam, and according to their beliefs, he will appear at some point in the future.

Abstract

This article discusses the potential of women in political contestation from the perspective of Ali Abdur Raziq, a leading Islamic thinker and reformer. The growth of the population, which is dominated by women, makes them a force in their own right. However, awareness of women's contributions to politics is still minimal. This view is supported by historical facts which show men as characters who dominate all aspects of life, so that narrating women and politics in the same conversation is almost considered something taboo. The purpose of writing this article is to re-present women as figures who stand the same as men, having the same opportunities in every matter. By using literature research, this article hypothesizes that women, while still carrying their religious awareness, have the potential to help change the country and society's views through political aspects
