Abstract

One tool that can be used to visualize and connect various types of spatial and temporal distribution is Geographic Information System. The purpose of this study is to analyze the pressure of longline fisheries, tuna catches and fishing effort and can model the spatial distribution and temporal (of tuna, during longline fishery activities in 2013. Experimental methods are used in determining the size pixels and kernel shape. The form of the kernel that displays the best results is quartic. The optimal radius produced from the equation 0.68n-0.2 is 0.25 degrees (27.78 km). The CPUE uses raster data on catch density (tail field) and fishing line density (field number of hooks). The calculation is done by multiplying the density of the raster catch (tail) by 1,000 then divided by the density of the raster fishing hooks. The results show that the range of CPUE values ranged from 0.833 - 416. The total area of the total fishing effort was 161,520 km2 with an ffort of catching of 57,502.017 per 1,000 hooks. The total number of CPUE top heatmap is 38,948.29 per 1,000 hooks in 38,080 km2, most are in the Mentawai Strait, other parts are also found in the south of Siberut Island, west of Enggano Island to the Indian Ocean. Seasonal patterns show that the East season is the season with the highest catching effort in the Mentawai Strait, the Siberut Strait to the southern part of Siberut Island and the Transition I season is the lowest catching effort. Abstract

The potential condition of fishery sector is indeed quite large in Central Bangka Regency. The majority of fishermen in Central Bangka Regency still use traditional fishing gear and simple fishing technology. The number of fishing units used in Central Bangka Regency consists of 370 units of lift net, 1,085 units of gillnets, 129 units of bubu, 60 units of sero, 125 units of fishing rods and 4 beach seines with a fleet of 1,767 (DKP Central Bangka Regency 2019). These types of fishing gear need to be assessed for performance and selected for superior fishing units as a form of optimizing to find out the strategy for developing appropriate and superior fishing units for the fisheries sector in the mining sector in Central Bangka Regency. The method of collecting data on fishing units was carried out by accidental sampling. The number of samples taken according to the category of fishing units were 20 units of lift net, 58 units of gill nets, 8 units of bubu, 3 units of sero, 10 units of fishing rods and 1 beach seines. Based on the results of standardization of technical aspects, environmental aspects, social aspects and economic aspects, the analysis of fishing gear gillnets is the most appropriate fishing gear to be developed in Central Bangka Regency with VA = 13.26 which makes gillnets gear priority I. Priority fishing gear II is a fishing rod with VA = 12.87 and priority III is a lift net with VA = 11.56. Keywords: superior fishing gear, sustainable fishing, Central Bangka Regency

Abstract

Purse seine fishing gear is designed to catch both large and small pelagic fish, and commonly used in tuna fisheries. However, this gear is not size-selective, and can pose a threat to fish stocks. The aim of this study was to obtain information on the biological characteristics of little tuna (Euthynnus affinis) caught by purse seiners operating in the waters of Herlang District in Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data collected from March to May 2019 included little tuna fork length (FL), weight, sex, and gonad maturity stage (GMS). Fish characteristics analysed in this study were length-weight relationship, size distribution, life phase, and gonadal maturity. Analyses were performed in MS Excel 2010 and Graphpad Prism v.5.03. Male and female little tuna had isometric growth patterns. Modal length class was 24.0-24.4 cm for males and 23.0-23.4 cm for females. All fish caught were below 30 cm TL, while the mean size at first maturity for this species is 39.8 cm. Although the catch was dominated by immature fish (GMS I and GMS II), all GMS stages were present for both sexes, with around a third of females in GMS III-V. Abstract

The increase in fishing activities of fishers in the Lebak Regency is facilitated by the Binuangeun Fish Landing Base (PPI). Every year, there is a growth in fish production at PPI Binuangeun. Production from 2015 to 2019 increased by 671 tons (13.55%). This study aims at formulating and determining strategies for improving the PPI Binuangeun class category. A survey approach was used in this study. Samples were taken by purposive sampling. The improvement in PPI class were categorized using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) scoring method. Results showed that the score was 254 with a success value of 251-300, indicating high potential and standards fulfillment. Thus, PPI Binuangeun can be transferred and upgraded to PPP (Coastal Fishery Port). The results of the AHP suggested that the central priority values for the development of PPI Binuangeun include: supply, auction, landing and marketing activities with the priority value of 0.585. Subsequently, another strategy is expanding the port area with score of 0.409. The support of relevant stakeholders for the development of the fishing port is needed to realize the aspirations of the central and local governments. Abstract

Purse Seine fishing gear is a fishing gear operated by several fishermen in the WPP NRI 571. Purse seine is a type of fishing gear that classified as surrounding nets, which is an active fishing gear to catch pelagic fish which who generally live in groups in large flocks. The main catch is Mackerel scad (Decapterus spp). The purpose of this study was to determine the level of environmental friendliness of the Purse seine fishing gear in PPS Belawan. The method used in this study is by using a score based on the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF) criteria, fish physiology analysis, and also analyze the suitability of fishing gear with the regulation of Permen KP.71 of 2016. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that physiologically fish include into fish fit for catching with a total length ranging from 19-24 cm, the average size of the first caught (Lc) at a length of 15 cmFL, the size of the first sentence gonads (Lm) 19.6 cmFL, Km. Sumber Baru does not meet the Regulations of the size of the vessel, and the Purse Seine fishing gear is very environmentally friendly with a score of 32 points.This Lc value is smaller than the Lm value. From this result, it is known that most of the scads caught have not passed the first gonadal maturity size (Lc<Lm), but in terms of the specifications of the fishing gear, they have adjusted to the applicable regulations

Abstract

As a company with a high potential for work accidents, the dockyard owned by PT Perikanan Indonesia must create a safe working environment for its workers by implementing occupationalsafety and health. However, until now, the company does not have a complete Standard OperatingProcedure (SOP) that meets labor safety standards. To improve and complete the SOP under worksafety standards, it is necessary to identify the behavior of the workforce and potential hazards inevery docking activity that can harm workers or the company. The purpose of this study is to identifyactivities that are potentially hazardous to workers in the docking area. The method used isdescriptive analysis and the method of Job Safety Analysis (JSA). The results of the study indicatethat extreme risk level is present when the vessel's activity enters the docking area, associated withthe vessel's hull on the rail slipway, vessel towing, vessel brushing, and vessel caulking.. Abstract

The fisheries management based on the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) can be implemented to optimize the potential of fisheries resources. The purpose of this research is to apply EAFM indicators for analyzing surface gillnet fishing gear in Bagan Siapi-api waters, especially fish resources, fishing methods, habitats, and ecosystems. The evaluation of fishery management status was carried out using multi-criteria analysis (MCA) through the development of the composite index of each EAFM indicator. The results showed that the surface gillnet fishing gear was dominant with 1,645 tons of fish caught in 2019 by fishermen in Bagan Siapi-Api Waters. The composition of the catches was sukain fish (Eleutheronema tetradactylum), flounder fish (Pleuronectiformes), and tornfish (Bovichthyidae). Based on the analysis of the EAFM indicators, the value of the domain of fish resources, habitats, and ecosystems, as well as fishing methods has a value between 2 and 2.5. This indicated that the status of ecosystem-based area management in the waters of Bagan Siapi-api is in the medium-good category. Keywords: Bagan Siapi-api, EAFM, Fisheries Sustainability, Gill Net

Abstract

Ensuring high-quality service is one of the most challenging aspects of managing fishing ports, including Sadeng Fishing Port. Service quality is important because it is one of the success determinants of port management. The port's prosperity is intimately tied to the quality of service given, which supports the port's role and function as a center for fishing activities. The study aimed to measure user satisfaction with service quality and which service indicators needed modification and maintenance to improve service quality in the Coastal Fishing Port (PPP). A survey of 45 port users, including fishermen, ship owners, traders, and fish processors, as well as the Fish Auction Site Manager and the Port Manager, was conducted in PPP Sadeng from August to October 2021. The information was analyzed using the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) and the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA). The study showed that the availability of basic, functional, and supporting facilities was 86.84 percent. Port users were satisfied to a degree of 65.20 percent, which is considered relatively satisfactory. To improve service quality, about six service attributes should be prioritized. The port personnel's ability to respond quickly to problems; the port personnel's responsiveness to users' complaints; the personnel's ability to provide security guarantees in using services; the cleanliness, orderliness, and comfort of the port physical condition; and the port facilities' arrangement, completeness, readiness, and cleanliness were among them. It was necessary to improve the provision of amenities, especially for the functional facilities; in the meantime, improving service quality should prioritize personnel reaction to problems and handling user complaints. Abstract

Rabbitfishes (Siganids) fishing activities tend to increase and potentially impact fish target and ecosystem, which is indicated by changes in population size and structure and the trophic level of the catches. Scientific information on Siganids fishing techniques and its ecological impact are limited. The aims of the study are: (1) to describe technical fishing aspects of Siganids fishery; (2) to estimate parameters of length at first maturity (Lm) as catch size limit indicators for this fish target; (3) to evaluate the impact of fishing on food chain balances (trophic level) the fish resources in this study area. The Siganids fishing techniques were observed during the field study. The catch of Siganids species and other fishes from various fishing gears were sampled, then identified and calculated individually. The samples of Siganids fish were also measured for its length and weight. This study showed that the fishers were used three kinds of fishing gears to target the Siganids fish, i.e., rope traps, bamboo traps, and spear gun. There were five species of Siganids caught during the research, they are: Barhead spinefoot (Siganus virgatus), Goldspotted spinefoot (S. punctatus), Streaked spinefoot (S. javus), Orange-spotted spinefoot (S. guttatus), and White-spotted spinefoot (S. canaliculatus), with the Lm value of 3.5, 22.8, 30.6, 21.2, and 20.8 cm, respectively. All catches of the Siganids exceeded the catch size limit (Lm), except for S. punctatus and S. Javus which was only 65.51% and 4.00% of the respective catches were acceptable in size. Finally, the Siganids fishing activities in the study area potentially impacted the ecological function of natural food chain balance (trophic level). Abstract

The Saleh Bay is one of the bays in West Nusa Tenggara utilized as the grouper fishing ground. However, in the previous spawning potential ratio study, some grouper species have been overexploited in Saleh Bay. This study aimed to estimate the status of grouper utilization with a catch per unit effort (CPUE) approach and the spatio-temporal fishing intensity of grouper in fishing grounds in Saleh Bay. Data were gathered using the fish landing data and geo-reference of fishing ground grouper in Saleh Bay. This study used several methods: descriptive analysis, catch per unit effort, and spatial-temporal analysis. The result showed that the catch unit effort positively impacts production, with the increasing trend of grouper fishing in Saleh Bay waters. The CPUE value in 2016 was 2.82 kg/trip, while in 2020, it increased to 3.99 kg/trip. Spatially and temporally, fishers caught grouper around small islands such as Liang Island, Dempu Island, Lipan Island, Takat Nusa Pudu, and Rakit Island. The highest intensity of grouper fishing around the marine protected area, namely Rakit Island, Liang Island, and Ngali Island. Keywords: catch per unit effort, fishing ground, grouper, Saleh Bay
