Abstract

Bell's palsy is a condition that causes temporary paralysis of the muscles on one side of the face. It is caused by facial nerve inflammation that controls the facial muscles. The exact cause of Bell's palsy is unclear, but it is associated with viral infections such as herpes simplex, varicella-zoster, and Epstein-Barr. All genders and ages are affected with a higher risk in people with diabetes, hypertension, pregnant women, obesity, and people with upper respiratory tract infections. Potential pathogenesis includes factors related to facial nerve anatomy, viral infection, local ischemia and inflammation, cold exposure, and autoimmune response. This review aims to provide a focused understanding of the anatomy, clinical features, etiology, diagnosis, and therapy of Bell's Palsy

Abstract

In Indonesia, the number of haemodialysis (HD) patients is increasing every year. In 2014, there were 17,193 new patients. This number has increased in 2015 as many as 21,050 patients and in 2016 as many as 25,446 patients. HD is a process that involves diffusion and ultrafiltration with the aim of removing certain elements from the blood by taking advantage of the difference in the rate of diffusion of blood as it passes through a semipermeable membrane. HD access is established in the arm by connecting the arm vein with the radial or ulnar artery. Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the most ideal HD access, because it can be used for the long term, lower morbidity, and mortality, but complications often occur, one of which is steal syndrome. This syndrome can present with different signs and symptoms depending on the severity and duration of post-access access for renal failure patients undergoing HD therapy

Abstract

Gout is an inflammatory joint disease caused by an inflammatory response to monosodium urate (MSU) crystals in the joint fluid, cartilage, bones, tendons, bursas, or other sites. High uric acid levels increase the likelihood of gouty arthritis, but not all high uric acid levels will develop into gout. Gout has a predilection for the lower extremities such as the first MTP, which is the most common site of acute gout known as podagra. The etiology of gout is usually multifactorial, including genetic risk factors, medical comorbidities, and dietary factors. gout has now been recognized as a global health problem and has gained attention due to its increasing incidence rate, multiple metabolic comorbidities, and high premature mortality, so patients with gouty arthritis need to be diagnosed and managed appropriately.

Abstract

Hypokalemia occurs when serum potassium levels are lower than normal, it is the most common electrolyte disorder. Especially in hospitalized patients, with a variety of causes and sometimes requiring urgent medical attention. Hypo calcium is usually the result of increased serum potassium excretion or intracellular shift and less commonly due to reduced potassium intake. A 24-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital with complaints of weakness in both lower limbs accompanied by nausea and decreased appetite, which had been felt for 2 days before admission. Previous history of the patient had diarrhea for 4 days, with the consistency of liquid stools, not mixed with mucus and blood. In to make a diagnosis and initiate appropriate therapy, a proper history and examination are necessary. Treatment of hypokalemia is not only aimed at supplementing potassium, but also at identifying the cause. Causes include gastrointestinal loss, intracellular shift, renal potassium loss, and inadequate intake

Abstract

Introduction: Non-adherence to taking tuberculosis medication is a patient who is unable or refuses to take tuberculosis medication based on a doctor's prescription, such as: taking inconsistent medication, inadequate clinic visits, inadequate dot program, refusing to take medication. Of the 1/2 million people diagnosed with mdr-tuberculosis, the rate of non-adherence to treatment is difficult to assess and it is estimated that more than a quarter of tuberculosis patients fail to complete treatment within 6 months. Method: The method used quantitatively with the cross-sectional study approach, the population is all tuberculosis patients who run the dots program including those who fail treatment, relapse, and return after defaulted with the age of more than >14 years as many as 142 patients, samples as many as 105. Data collection techniques use nominally scaled questionnaires. Result and Discusion: The test results of univariate and bivariate analysis of chi-square, bivariate analysis using a significant alpha value of 5% (?=0.05). The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant influence between education level (rp = 3,420), knowledge level (rp = 3,052), family support (rp = 0,003), length of treatment (rp = 3,149), on the patient's inadequacy in taking tuberculosis drugs. Conclusion: In conclusion, the results of this study are the level of education, level of knowledge, family support, duration of treatment affect the non-compliance of patients taking tuberculosis drugs.

Abstract

Kounis syndrome (KS) is a hypersensitivity coronary disorder induced by various conditions, drugs, environmental exposures, foods, and coronary stents. Allergic, hypersensitivity, anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions are associated with this syndrome. Vasospastic allergic angina, allergic myocardial infarction and stent thrombosis with occluding thrombus infiltrated by eosinophils and/or mast cells constitute are the three reported, so far, variants of this syndrome. Its etiology is continuously increasing. Kounis syndrome is a ubiquitous disease which represents a magnificent natural paradigm and nature’s own experiment in a final trigger pathway implicated in cases of coronary artery spasm and plaque rupture. These cells are not only present in the culprit region before plaque erosion or rupture but they release their contents just before an actual coronary event. Therefore, awareness of etiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, and clinical manifestations seems to be important for its prognosis, diagnosis, treatment, prevention

Abstract

Introduction: The pregnancy is a natural process that occurs in women with reproductive age; for the pregnant to occur, it requires a process that meets the egg cell and spermatozoon when having sexual intercourse during ovulation. According to the Timor Leste Health Demographic Survey 2016, the maternal mortality rate is 218/100,000 live births. The Ministry of Health data showed that K1 and K4 visits reached 80 90%. The report from the Ministry of Health in 2022 revealed that the initial pregnant mother visits (K1) in the center reached 39,608 (79%), and K4 visits reached 26,567 (53%). The Soibada Health Center report in 2020 showed that the initial pregnant mother visits (K1) total of 1931 (71%) and K4 visits with a total of 1415 (52%). Objective: To determine the factors that influence the visits of the fourth trimester (K4) for pregnancy at the Soibada Health Center, Soibada Administrative Post, Manatuto Municipality, Timor Leste in the year 2023. Method: This research used quantitative analytical methods with a cross sectional approach. The population for this research is the pregnancy who visit the Soibada Health Center, Soibada Administrative Post. Result and Discussion: The respondents for this research were 88, with the following results: 36 (40.9%) had a primary education level, 46 (52.3%) were aged <20 or >35, 54 (61.4%) did not work together, 48 (54.5%) were Mult pregnancy, 47 (53.4%) had less knowledge, and there were 52 (59.1%) irregular visits to the clinic. Conclusion: Based on this research, we conclude that factors such as education level, age, occupation, parity, and knowledge influence irregular visits to the clinic. Therefore, we urge health personnel to pay more attention to these factors, especially in terms of consulting standards for women's health.
