Abstract

Introduction: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a disorder of cardiac muscle characterized with ventricular dilatation and decreased diastolic function. Although the most common cause of DCM is idiopathic, several cases of DCM in COVID-19 infection have been reported. Case report: A 2 years-old boy presented with shortness of breath and cough for 2 weeks, especially during activity. Physical examination revealed hypertension, tachypnoea, fever, crackles in both lungs, and intracoastal retractions. Chest x-ray showed cardiomegaly (CTR 0.63) and minimal pulmonary enema as well as inhomogeneous perihilar and right paracardial opacity with ill-defined borders and air bronchogram. SARS-CoV-2 IgG was positive. Echocardiography confirmed DCM, pulmonary hypertension, and minimal pericardial effusion. Discussion: Echocardiographic for ventricular dysfunction is considered the best method for evaluation and diagnosis. Treatment for DCM depends on the degree of myocardial remodelling and the clinical symptoms. The latest management algorithm recommends the use of ACE-Inhibitors, B-Blockers, and Diuretics. The patient experienced improvement after 2 weeks of treatment with furosemide, captopril, spironolactone, and digoxin therapy. Conclusion: Diagnosis and management of DCM depends on the clinical findings and imaging, and requires subspecialty management. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary to consider COVID-19 infection in children with symptoms of respiratory tract infection

Abstract

Introduction: Rice is one of the main staple foods for Indonesians. The consumption of rice in Indonesian society is increasing every year along with the increasing population of Indonesia. Objective: this Research will test the effectiveness of stale rice MOL organic fertilizer in accelerating the growth rate of Bok choy plants. Method: This Research used experimental research methods to determine the effect of using MOL fertilizer on the growth rate of Bok choy plant height. This research will use a Completely Randomized Design as the design method and with 3 research subjects namely the analytical method to be used in this study is one-way ANOVA with LSD/BNT follow-up test Result and Discussion: it was found that the average growth of plant height given MOL fertilizer on the leaves (S2) had the highest plant growth rate. MOL fertilizer can increase plant height growth 0.2 cm faster than those not fertilized, Conclusions: The results of applying MOL fertilizer to Bok choy plants affect the growth of Bok choy plant height but not significantly. The fastest growth is in the treatment given to the leaves of the plant

Abstract

Introduction: The existence of sex links was first discovered by T. H. Morgan and C. B. Bridger in 1910. He found the existence of derivatives that are not in accordance with Mendel's concept. Objective: This study used Drosophila melanogaster with N (wild type) and m (miniature) strains. The crosses performed are N><m and its reciprocal. The results of the cross will be observed regarding the phenotype of the F1 offspring until the resulting F2 is obtained. Method: This research is quantitative descriptive research. Data collection was done by direct observation. The data collected are sex and phenotype of Drosophila melanogaster strain N (normal) and strain m (miniature) for 7 consecutive days. Data analysis used was through comparison of cross reconstruction and chi square test. Result and Discussion: The crossing ratio obtained from the F1 cross N >< m with the result of N and N pups respectively are 1:1 after crossing with each other obtained N, N, m pupswith a ratio of 1.1:1, 8:1 respectively. While the reciprocal of the F1 cross m >< N with N and m pups is 1:1 after crossing each other, we get N, N, m, m pupswith a ratio of 1.2:1, 2:1:1 respectively Conclusions: Sex Linking Phenomenon occurred in F2 of m x N cross

Abstract

Introduction: Early detection and treatment of congenital hypothyroidism can reduce the risk of intellectual disability, so the timeliness of services is the key to the success of the congenital hypothyroidism (SHK) screening program in newborns. Objective: Evaluate the implementation of the SHK program for newborns in the work area of the Sampang Regency Health Office in January - March 2024. Method: Data on the timeliness of collection, specimen delivery to the laboratory and feedback data on screening results were collected through program records and reporting at health service facilities, the Sampang Regency Health Office, and the Dr. Soetomo Surabaya Clinical Pathology Laboratory. Result and Discussion: The timeliness of specimen collection in January was 484 (47.21%) specimens taken on time in February 298 (34.33%), March 436 (45%) of several babies who underwent SHK every month. The category of Too early (24-hour <) in January, February, and March was 221 (21.56%), 373 (42.97%), and 198 (20.43%) respectively.  The timeliness of specimen delivery in January was 187 (18%) late specimens. The total number of unreadable specimens (reject) was 515 (18%) out of 2,862 SHK specimens sent to dr. Soetomo Laboratory. Conclusion: The timeliness of SHK sampling at the age of <24 hours (Too Early) was the highest in February, which was 373 (42.97%).  The highest specimen delivery delay was in January 187 (18%). The most unreadable/uncheckable SHK papers (Reject) in March 193 (20%)

Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic disease with a wide range of manifestations including pulmonary disorders. We reported two cases of patients with SLE and pneumonia. The first patient was a 23-year-old woman who had been diagnosed with SLE and then came with complaints of cough and shortness of breath in the last two weeks. Physical examination found crackles in both lungs. Laboratory examination revealed severe anemia, thrombocytopenia, hyponatremia and hypoalbumin. Thoracic x-ray revealed pneumonia. Patient was diagnosed with pneumonia, relapsed mild SLE, lupus nephritis and severe anemia. She was treated with Levofloxacin 1x750mg, Ceftriaxone 1x2 gram, Methylprednisolone 1x62.5mg and Hydroxychloroquine 1x200mg. The second patient was a 20-year-old woman with complaints of fever, cough, and shortness of breath since two weeks ago. Physical examination showed an increase in RR and temperature. Laboratory examination showed leukopenia, mild anemia, thrombocytopenia and elevated procalcitonin and ESR and hypoalbumin. X-ray examination showed pneumonia. Echocardiography revealed a mild circular pericardial effusion. She was diagnosed with relapsed severe SLE with mild anemia, severe thrombocytopenia and lupus nephritis, pneumonia, hypoalbuminemia, and pericardial effusion. She was treated with Ceftazidime 3x2 grams, Levofloxacin 1x750mg, Hydroxychloroquine 1x200mg, Methylprednisolone 2x62.5mg, TC transfusion 5 bags/day, albumin 20% 100ml and fluconazole 1x200mg was added on fourth day of care. Both patients died on the 10th day. Pulmonary involvement can be primary (caused by SLE itself) or secondary (caused by infection or drug toxicity), acute or chronic. The course, treatment and prognosis vary greatly depending on the specific pattern of the disease.

Abstract

Stunting remains a critical public health issue in Timor-Leste, significantly impacting child development and future societal progress. This literature review examines various health promotion strategies aimed at preventing stunting in the country. By analyzing key studies and intervention programs, this review highlights effective approaches, including community-based nutrition education, maternal health improvement, and government-led initiatives. The role of public awareness campaigns and the integration of healthcare services also emerge as essential components in tackling stunting. The findings suggest that a multi-sectoral and culturally sensitive approach is critical for the long-term success of stunting prevention efforts in Timor-Leste. Future recommendations emphasize the need for sustained political commitment and enhanced resource allocation to ensure the sustainability of these health promotion strategies.
