Abstract

There are two terms related to the time of use of drugs, namely the expiration date (ED) which is determined by the manufacturer, and beyond use date (BUD) which refers to the period of time after the drug is prepared or the primary packaging is opened. Indonesian people tend to store drugs based on ED. Ensuring the safe use of medicines is the role of pharmaceutical personnel, including providing information related to BUD. This research aims to determine the influence of poster media on the level of public knowledge and determine the role of pharmaceutical staff in providing information related to BUD. The research method used was an experimental survey of 600 respondents, using validated questionnaires and poster, which was carried out in hospital pharmacies, clinics, primary health care centers and pharmacies in Kabupaten Bekasi. The research results showed a significant difference in the pre-test and post-test scores with the Asymp.Sig scores. 0.000, which means that there was an increase in the level of knowledge of respondents after conveying BUD information through poster media, and as many as 80.3% of respondents stated that they had never received information related to BUD from pharmacy personnel. The poster has proven effective in increasing public knowledge regarding BUD.  The active role of pharmaceutical personnel needs to be increased to ensure the safety and effectiveness of drug use in the community.

Abstract

Vital Capacity (VC) serves as one of the main parameters in assessing lung function. Obesity, which can be measured using Body Mass Index (BMI) and waist circumference, has the potential to affect respiratory mechanics and decrease lung function. Medical students with limited physical activity are at risk of experiencing reduced VC due to increased BMI and central obesity. This study aims to determine the relationship between BMI and waist circumference with VC among 2023 cohort students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Kristen Indonesia. This research is an observational study with a cross-sectional design. A total of 57 students participated as samples. Data were collected through measurements of BMI, waist circumference, and VC using spirometry. Chi-square test was used for analysis. Results showed that 54.4% of respondents had abnormal BMI, 40.4% had central obesity, and 57.9% exhibited abnormal vital capacity. A significant relationship was found between BMI and VC (p=0.001), as well as between waist circumference and VC (p=0.010). These findings indicate that increased BMI and waist circumference may contribute to reduced lung function.

Abstract

Introduction: Cow's milk allergy (CMA) is the most common food allergy occurring in the first year of life. Restriction of cow's milk and dairy products results in decreased macro- and micronutrient intake, especially in infants who are not breastfed. Therefore, alternative milk supplements for supplemental nutrition in CMA must be considered. Methods: This systematic review used PRISMA guidelines with the PICO search strategy, focusing on RCTs, clinical trials, and observational studies. A comprehensive search was conducted to obtain articles published in English between 2010 and 2025 using ScienceDirect, PubMed, SagePub, and Scopus. Result and Discission: Results A total of 2010 publications were retrieved using relevant search terms. After a rigorous three-stage review, nine studies were selected based on inclusion criteria and deemed suitable for in-depth analysis. These studies addressed tolerance and allergic reactions or cross-reactivity following administration of goat's milk, soy isolate, rice isolate, and partially hydrolyzed formula. Conclusion: In infants with CMA, goat's milk can trigger cross-reactivity. Partially hydrolyzed formulas can be an option for oral food challenges to assess tolerance. Plant-based formulas, particularly rice isolate, are the best choice, especially for those with non-severe CMA and CMA who cannot tolerate extensively hydrolyzed and amino acid-containing formulas.

Abstract

Introduction: Epistaxis or nosebleed is one of the emergency conditions in the field of otorhinolaryngology that is often encountered, especially anterior epistaxis. Allergic rhinitis can be a predisposing factor for epistaxis due to chronic inflammation of the nasal mucosa that causes fragility of blood vessels in the Kiesselbach plexus area. Objective: To report a case of anterior epistaxis in a patient with a history of allergic rhinitis, and to evaluate the appropriateness of the diagnosis and management based on existing theories and literature. Methods: This writing is a descriptive case report of a patient who came with complaints of nosebleeds. Anamnesis, physical examination, and supporting examinations were performed to confirm the diagnosis and formulate management. Results and Discussion: The patient was diagnosed with anterior epistaxis triggered by the underlying condition of allergic rhinitis. Therapy given was in the form of local treatment (cauterization) and antihistamine medication to control allergic symptoms. The evaluation results showed significant clinical improvement without recurrence. Conclusion: Anterior epistaxis can occur as a complication of chronic allergic rhinitis. The diagnosis established through anamnesis, physical examination, and supporting tests is consistent with the theory outlined in the literature review. Appropriate treatment of underlying causes, such as allergic rhinitis, is crucial to prevent recurrence.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic condition that increases the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Self-management is an important strategy in controlling hypertension through the integration of health education, behavioral adaptation, social-psychological support, and identification of patient barriers. This study aims to explore the concept of self-management in hypertensive patients through a literature review supported by case observations. This study employs a qualitative method, reviewing 20 articles published between 2024 and 2025 from major bibliographic databases. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns of antecedent factors, consequences, and self-management strategies, which were then compared with three real-life cases of hypertensive patients. Results indicate that high health literacy, strong family support, and adaptive lifestyle changes contribute to blood pressure control and improved quality of life. Conversely, resistance to behavioral change, denial of diagnosis, and low self-confidence are associated with uncontrolled hypertension. This study concludes that personalized interventions combining structured education, behavioral motivation, community engagement, and technology utilization can strengthen self-management skills, optimize hypertension control, and reduce the disease burden in the community.
