Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorders associated with elevated blood glucose levels and is predicted to significantly increase in the next 1 or 2 decades. Lowering blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) can be achieved using the traditional herbal remedy of bay leaf infusion (Syzygium polyanthum). The aim of this review article is to provide a summary of scientific data from several trials on the antidiabetic activity of bay leaf infusion in reducing blood sugar levels. The method in this study is a review article with data collection from April to May using Google Scholar, which resulted in finding 25 relevant journals. The results obtained in this review article show that bay leaf infusion is effective in reducing blood sugar levels in both animal models and patients with diabetes mellitus, with a significant value of p<0.005. This can occur due to the presence of secondary metabolites in bay leaves, such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and alkaloids, which can provide antidiabetic effects. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between the reduction in blood sugar levels and bay leaf infusion due to the secondary metabolites present in bay leaves.

Abstract

Aging is a gradual process of tissue disappearance to repair or replace itself and maintain its normal structure and function. The aging process is caused by exposure to UV rays, daily habits, and improper facial skin care. In addressing aging, a good treatment is the use of clay masks. Facial skin aging can be treated by utilizing natural ingredients, one of which is Chinese date leaves (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam). Chinese date leaves contain anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties as well as phytochemical compounds such as flavonoids and vitamin C. Clay mask formulations were designed by varying the concentration of Chinese date leaf extract, namely F0 (0%), F1 (2.5%), F2 (5%), and F3 (7.5%), with the aim of determining the best clay mask formulation. The Chinese date leaf extract was tested for flavonoid content using the UV-Vis spectrophotometer method and for vitamin C content using the titration method. The clay mask preparations were examined for organoleptic properties, pH, homogeneity, adhesive power, drying time, and hedonic test. The research results showed that Chinese date leaf extract had a flavonoid content of 1.5% and a vitamin C content of 82.6%. The results of the clay mask preparation met the requirements for organoleptic properties, pH, homogeneity, adhesive power, and drying time. Based on the results of various extract concentrations, satisfactory results were obtained, with formulations F1 and F2 meeting the requirements.

Abstract

Hypertension is often called the silent killer because it generally has no signs and symptoms, so it is only discovered after it causes complications. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be given to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients is a combination of isometric handgrip exercise therapy and watermelon juice. This study aims to determine the effect of isometric handgrip exercise and watermelon juice on reducing blood pressure in hypertension sufferers. This research design uses a quasi-experiment with a pre-post-test research design without control. The population in this study was 45 people, with a sample size of 18 people. The results of this study show that there is an effect of isometric handgrip exercise and watermelon juice on reducing blood pressure in hypertension sufferers in the RT 07 RW 06 Pengasinan Sawangan Depok area with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05) on systolic blood pressure and a p-value of 0.000 (p< 0.000) in diastolic blood pressure. It is hoped that the results of this research can be used as an alternative treatment to lower blood pressure in hypertension sufferers and can add information that the treatment of hypertension is not only with medication but can be supplemented with non-pharmacological therapy such as watermelon juice, and isometric handgrip exercise intervention can be an alternative patient activity that has an effect. Stable blood pressure can be maintained independently at home.

Abstract

Open diaphyseal long bone fractures are a serious condition that requires complex and coordinated management to prevent complications and ensure optimal recovery. This study aims to review current treatment options in the management of these fractures, with a focus on fracture stabilization techniques and wound irrigation. The research method used is a literature study, which includes a comprehensive analysis of scientific articles, systematic observations, and relevant clinical guidelines. The results show that fracture stabilization techniques such as internal and external fixation each have advantages and disadvantages, which should be considered based on the patient's specific condition. In addition, low-pressure irrigation with saline solution is preferred to prevent additional trauma to the tissue, although the use of antiseptic solutions may be beneficial in certain cases. The discussion also highlights key challenges such as the risk of infection, non-union, and soft tissue damage, as well as the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in the management of open fractures. In conclusion, effective and efficient treatment requires a deep understanding of various medical techniques, a collaborative team, and close monitoring for complications, to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.

Abstract

The influence of the home environment on the care of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an important factor in the management of this condition. The "Education and Training" method has proven effective in addressing this issue by improving COPD patients' understanding, skills and support in managing their home environment. Through comprehensive education, risk identification, development of home environment management skills, and use of appropriate health technologies, patients and their families can play an active role in creating a home environment that supports respiratory health. Support provided by the medical team and regular follow-up in providing education and training are important components in maintaining successful home environment management for COPD patients. Thus, the "Education and Training" approach not only helps to improve the quality of life of COPD patients, but can also reduce the risk of disease exacerbation and improve adherence to their treatment plan.
