Abstract

Breast milk is the gold standard for feeding babies because it contains nutrients and other non-nutritional components that are important for the growth and development of babies, one of which is vitamin E which functions to provide important antioxidant protection for newborn babies. Expressed breast milk when stored in the refrigerator can affect the quality or vitamin levels in the breast milk. The aim of this research is to look at the effect of storage time for expressed breast milk on Vitamin E levels. This type of research is analytical descriptive with an examination method using indirect Elisa. The sample criteria used in this study were healthy breastfeeding mothers who had babies aged 1-6 months. The results showed that there was a decrease in the average value of Vitamin E levels during storage for 1 day, 2 days and 3 days, where based on the results of the Anova statistical test, it was found that there was a decrease during 3 days of storage (p<0.05). It can be concluded that there is effect of storage time for expressed breast milk on vitamin E levels

Abstract

Shock is a circulatory disorder which is defined as a condition of inadequate oxygen transport to tissues or perfusion caused by hemodynamic disorders. One type of shock, namely neurogenic shock, which is a form of distributive shock, is a critical condition resulting from dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system after spinal cord injury, especially in the cervical and upper thoracic vertebrae above T6, as a result of a traumatic event.. Worldwide , neurogenic shock occurs between fifteen and fifty-two events per million people annually with a higher incidence of cervical spine injury (SCI) (29%) compared to thoracic injury (19%). This causes hypotension and bradycardia, classic signs of neurogenic shock. There are no universally established hemodynamic parameters for neurogenic shock. However, most studies adopted the criteria of systolic blood pressure below 90 mmHg and heart rate below 80 bpm. Patients with neurogenic shock may also manifest as pink, warm skin due to dilation of subcutaneous blood vessels. Treatment of patients with neurogenic shock requires vasopressor drugs such as noradrenaline, phenylephrine, or metaraminol, and positive inotropic dopamine is recommended to treat vascular tone and prevent secondary injury. .

Abstract

The treatment for HIV/AIDS therapy is by administering antiretrovirals (ARVs) for life, therefore it is necessary to monitor patients for side effects or symptoms of ARV toxicity. The aim of this study is to evaluate the side effects of drugs in HIV sufferers who were taking first-line antiretroviral (ARV) drugs at the Kassi-Kassi Public Health Centre of Makassar. This research was quantitative research with descriptive research type. The results showed that of the 36 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria based on their characteristics, the majority of respondents were male (91.67%), in the 25-54 year age group (72.22%), and had a tertiary level education ( 58.33%). Based on the length of time they received antiretroviral drug therapy (ARV), the majority of patients were in the 6 months-5 years category (80.56%), with the most widely used ARV combination being tenofovir + lamivudine + efavirenz (47.22%). The number of patients who did not experience ARV side effects was greater (50.7%) than those who experienced side effects. The most common side effects include:dizziness, nausea, rash, fatigue and sleep disturbances. Even though several patients experienced ARV side effects, judging from the medical records, after treatment of ARV side effects, the patients continued therapy well.

Abstract

Introduction: The ear is a human organ that functions as a hearing tool. The ear consists of the outer, middle and inner parts. The structure of the outer ear consists of the earlobe (auricle) and ear canal. The external ear (EE) is anatomically and functionally divided into the cartilaginous auricle, or pinna, and the external auditory canal (EAC). The outer ear can be affected by a variety of conditions, including congenital abnormalities, trauma, inflammatory conditions (infectious or other), blood vessel abnormalities, and neoplasms (benign or malignant). Objective: This literature aims to examine the characteristics of external ear diseases. Method: This research uses a literature review method with the Preferred Reporting Items for protocol Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Scientific articles or journals are downloaded from PubMed, Garuda Portal, and Google Scholar with SINTA IV and V standards in the time period 20 19-2023. The keywords in this article search were characteristics, external ear disease, 853 articles were obtained in the search results. All articles were selected based on the inclusion criteria, resulting in 9 research articles that would be reviewed. Results: In the literature this was found namely 9 research articles that report the characteristics of external ear diseases consisting of congenital abnormalities, namely preauricular fistula, microtia, acquired abnormalities, namely hematoma, perichondritis, pseudocyst, ear canal abnormalities, namely cerumen, otitis externa and otomycosis. Conclusion: Characteristics of external ear diseases consist of congenital abnormalities, namely preauricular fistula, microtia, acquired abnormalities, namely hematoma, perichondritis, pseudocyst, ear canal abnormalities, namely cerumen, otitis externa and otomycosis.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases are a group of diseases which in themselves become a public health burden because they are widespread, one of which is diabetes mellitus (DM). Robusta coffee bean (Coffea canephora) is one of the medicinal plants that can be efficacious in lowering blood glucose levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Robusta Coffee Beans (Coffea canephora) on blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced mice. This study used a type of laboratory experimental study using male mice (Muss musculus L.) Bulb/C strain. There were 6 groups randomized and treated Robusta Coffee Bean Ethanol Extract (RBEE) with dose 100 mg/kg.bw, dose 200 mg/kg.bw, dose 400 mg/kg.bw, CMC Na 0.5% and metformin 195 mg/kg.bw. The treatment is given orally for 14 days. Blood glucose level data was analyzed using the ANOVA one-way parametric test with a confidence level of 95%. After being given treatment, the blood glucose level in negative control group (545.7 mg/dl), positive control (130.25 mg/dl), RBEE 100 mg/kg.bw (296.5 mg/dl), RBEE 200 mg/kg.bw (211.5 mg/dl), RBEE 400 mg/kg.bw (147.25 mg/dl), so that the percent decrease in blood glucose levels in RBEE 100 mg/kg.bw (27.10%), RBEE 200 mg/kg.bw (50.14%), RBEE 400 mg/kg.bw (68.00%), CMC Na (-53.60%), metformin (71.11%). The results showed that there was an effect on reducing blood glucose levels in mice significantly compared to the negative control group. Robusta coffee beans (Coffea canephora) have the activity of lowering blood glucose levels so that it can be developed as an antidiabetic.
