Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between students’ perceptions of using Wayground, a gamified digital quiz platform, and their learning performance in a Bahasa Indonesia course. Wayground is designed to provide an interactive and engaging assessment experience in digital learning environments. Understanding how students perceive this platform and whether such perceptions influence their academic outcomes is essential for evaluating its effectiveness in higher education settings. This research employed a quantitative correlational design involving 84 students from Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika across three campuses: BSD, Tasikmalaya, and Tegal. Data were collected using a Technology Acceptance Model (TAM)-based questionnaire consisting of five constructs: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, engagement, clarity, and attitude. Students’ Wayground quiz scores were also collected. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, and Pearson–Spearman correlation analyses. The findings show that students had highly positive perceptions of Wayground, with mean scores ranging from 3.67 to 3.90. They viewed the platform as interactive, user-friendly, and effective for digital evaluation. However, correlation analyses revealed no significant relationship between students’ perceptions and their quiz performance (p > 0.05). These results indicate that although students appreciated the platform, positive perceptions did not translate into higher learning outcomes. The study concludes that Wayground successfully enhances engagement and digital interactivity in learning environments. Nevertheless, positive perceptions alone are insufficient to guarantee improved academic performance. Achieving optimal learning outcomes may require additional factors such as learner motivation, adequate preparation, and effective instructional design.

Abstract

Music arts learning in junior high school plays an important role in developing students’ musical skills and social attitudes through ensemble activities. However, local culture–based ensemble learning, particularly patrol music, still faces limitations in the availability of structured, contextual, and easily accessible teaching materials. As a result, the practice process is suboptimal and does not fully support the gradual development of ensemble performance skills. This study employed a research and development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, comprising analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The research subjects were 155 ninth-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sedati. Data were collected through expert validation (material, language, and media), teacher and student response questionnaires, learning outcome tests (pretest and posttest), and observations of ensemble performance skills. Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques, including feasibility and practicality percentages and N-gain analysis. The interactive patrol music e-book was found to be very feasible, with validation scores of 92% from material experts, 92% from language experts, and 94% from media experts. The practicality of the e-book was rated very practical, as shown by teacher response scores of 96.25% and student response scores of 94.35%. The effectiveness of the e-book was demonstrated by an improvement in learning outcomes, with an N-gain value of 0.56 (moderate category), as well as the achievement of ensemble performance skills with an average score of 88.28%, categorized as very good. The developed interactive patrol music e-book has been proven feasible, practical, and effective as a music arts learning medium for improving junior high school students’ understanding and ensemble performance skills grounded in local culture.

Abstract

Financing higher education in Indonesia faces increasingly complex challenges due to limited public budgets, rising operational costs, and demands for equitable access and improved educational quality. In the context of higher education autonomy, particularly for State-Owned Legal Entities (PTN-BH), institutions are required to develop innovative and sustainable financing strategies to reduce dependence on government funds and the Single Tuition Fee (UKT). This study analyzes innovative models for financing higher education through resource diversification and their implications for institutional sustainability and educational accessibility. The research method is a qualitative case study, with data collected through a review of policy documents and university financial reports, as well as in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including university leaders, alums, and private-sector partners. The results show that implementing a hybrid financing model that integrates research commercialization and endowment fund management can enhance universities' financial independence without compromising their social mission. The success of this model is supported by regulatory autonomy, professional governance, and the application of transparency and accountability principles in financial management. Furthermore, revenue from non-UKT sources has been shown to contribute significantly to scholarship funding, cross-subsidies, and the stabilization of education costs, thereby expanding access for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. This study concludes that financing innovation is a strategic key to achieving financial sustainability and equitable access to higher education in Indonesia, and that this requires an adaptive regulatory framework and the continuous strengthening of institutional managerial capacity.

Abstract

Discourse is not present neutrally, but rather constructed through language choices that represent certain interests, ideologies, and social realities. This also applies to literary works that function not only as imaginative products but as discursive practices that reproduce and negotiate power relations. The novel Bekisar Merah by Ahmad Tohari is a literary work that represents the social dynamics of Javanese rural society and the complexity of gender relations. Although previous studies have focused more on female characters, the male characters in this novel play a strategic role in shaping the storyline, social structure, and ideological conflict. This study aims to analyse the representation of male characters in the novel Bekisar Merah through a critical discourse analysis approach and to uncover the ideology and power relations that accompany it, while simultaneously formulating its implications for literary studies. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive analysis. The data source is the novel Bekisar Merah by Ahmad Tohari, with data in the form of narrative excerpts, dialogues, and descriptions representing male characters, analysed using a critical discourse analysis framework. The study's results show that the author employs linguistic strategies, including diction, style, sentence structure, and descriptions of socio-cultural background, to construct a diverse and problematic representation of masculinity. Male characters are portrayed as both hardworking, responsible, loyal, and wise, and as reckless and ambitious. This finding confirms that masculinity in the novel Bekisar Merah is not singular but is constructed through power relations and social structures, and is relevant as a literary learning material that encourages critical reading of texts and social realities.

Abstract

Social skills are an important competency that needs to be developed in junior high school students. However, in learning practice, educational media that encourage active student interaction, communication, and cooperation remain needed. Given these conditions, it is necessary to develop learning media that capture students' attention and support the process. This research was conducted using a research and development approach through the 4D model stages, namely define, design, develop, and disseminate. The media developed was an educational game card titled "Make a Match." The feasibility of the media was assessed through validation by material experts and media experts. In contrast, the practicality of the media was reviewed through a questionnaire of teacher responses as observers and student responses represented by the class leader. Based on the validation results, the feasibility of the developed media was 90.90% among material experts and 94.66% among media experts, both classified as very feasible. At the dissemination stage, the teacher response was 100%, and the student response was 98.33%, indicating that the media is very practical and received a positive response from users. The Make a Match educational media developed can be used as a learning tool and to support guidance and counseling services in junior high schools, demonstrating good feasibility and practicality. This media also aligns with Riggio's theory of social skills because the game activities encourage students to practice communication, cooperation, and social interaction.

Abstract

Microteaching practice is a strategic space in pre-service teacher education to develop comprehensive pedagogical competencies. However, various studies show that pre-service teacher students often display awkward, mechanical, and self-centred teaching performance in the early stages of practice. This study aims to examine in depth how video-based self-evaluation combined with the Flipped Classroom approach can transform the pedagogical awareness of PGSD students in microteaching practice. This study used an explanatory sequential mixed methods design with a case study approach in one class of fifth-semester PGSD students (N = 16) at HKBP Nommensen University, Pematangsiantar. Quantitative data were obtained through microteaching assessment scores before and after the video-based self-evaluation, which were assessed by the lecturer and analysed using a paired sample t-test. Qualitative data were collected through students' written reflections and analysis of video recordings of teaching practice. The results showed a significant increase in the quality of students' microteaching performance (Mean = 9.81; t(hit) = 6.96; p < 0.05) after implementing the video-based self-evaluation within the Flipped Classroom framework. This improvement is reflected in material mastery, questioning skills, classroom management, utilization of learning media, and a shift in learning orientation from teacher-centred to student-centred. Qualitatively, student reflections revealed a transformation in pedagogical awareness characterized by increased teaching readiness, sensitivity to student learning needs, and the ability to design more contextual, participatory, and meaningful learning. These findings confirm that video-based self-evaluation within the Flipped Classroom framework serves not only as a technical reflection tool but also as a medium for shaping the professional identity of prospective teachers.
