Abstract

Student barriers in publishing scientific articles such as limited guidance, insufficient academic writing skills, and a lack of technical understanding of the Open Journal Systems (OJS) highlight the need for digital learning innovation. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of an OJS-based journal article publication e-module for students at Universitas Bosowa. The e-module was developed using the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), which enables systematic material development and the integration of theoretical concepts of scientific publication with practical steps for using OJS. The study employed a quasi-experimental approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 30 students selected using a cluster sampling technique. The test instrument was developed based on two main components of the e-module: theoretical framework and practical activities. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results indicate a significant improvement in students’ article publication abilities after using the e-module, with the mean pretest score of 10.80 increasing to 12.50 in the posttest (p = 0.006). These findings demonstrate that the e-module is effective in enhancing both the theoretical understanding and practical skills of students related to article publication through OJS. This study concludes that the development of the e-module serves as a strategic solution to strengthen students’ scientific publication literacy while supporting improvements in learning quality and higher education accreditation outcomes.

Abstract

This laboratory experimental study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) leaf extract against the growth of Prevotella intermedia on the acrylic base of removable orthodontic appliances. Acrylic samples measuring 10 × 10 × 2 mm were contaminated with Prevotella intermedia ATCC 25611, then treated with lemongrass extract at concentrations of 40% and 50%, 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate as the positive control, and DMSO as the negative control. The number of bacterial colonies was subsequently counted using the total plate count method. The Kruskal–Wallis test showed significant differences among the groups (p = 0.000). The 50% extract produced a greater reduction in colony numbers than the 40% extract, although both remained less effective than chlorhexidine. The Mann–Whitney analysis also demonstrated significant differences across all treatment pairs (p = 0.004). These findings indicate that lemongrass leaf extract exhibits antibacterial activity against Prevotella intermedia but requires higher concentrations to achieve optimal effectiveness comparable to synthetic agents. Thus, lemongrass extract has potential as a natural adjunct to help reduce bacterial colonization on the acrylic base of removable orthodontic appliances.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial effectiveness of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) extract against Staphylococcus aureus on the acrylic base of removable orthodontic appliances. This laboratory experimental research employed a post-test only control group design using acrylic samples previously inoculated with Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Four treatment groups were tested: 40% and 50% lemongrass leaf extract, 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate as the positive control, and DMSO as the negative control. Bacterial colony counts were measured using the total plate count method after the incubation period. The results showed significant differences among the groups (p ≤ 0,05), with the 50% concentration producing the lowest colony count and exhibiting the strongest antibacterial activity. The 40% concentration also demonstrated inhibitory effects, although not as strongly as the 50% concentration. When compared with the positive control, the 50% lemongrass extract showed an effectiveness nearly equivalent to chlorhexidine. These findings indicate that lemongrass extract, particularly at a 50% concentration, can be utilized as a natural disinfectant for removable orthodontic appliances to reduce bacterial counts

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of utilizing the Shuffle and Recall game, a component of the Clash of Champions program, on the Arabic vocabulary mastery among tenth-grade students at MAN 1 Semarang City. The underlying phenomenon was the low level of Arabic vocabulary proficiency among high school students, which is often attributed to the dominance of less interactive conventional teaching methods and the perception that Arabic is a difficult language to learn. The research method employed a quasi-experimental design featuring a pretest-posttest control group. The research population comprised all tenth-grade students at MAN 1 Semarang City during the 2024/2025 academic year, totaling 350 students. The results indicated a significant increase in scores within the experimental class. Prior to the intervention, the average pretest scores for both classes were relatively similar or homogeneous (Experimental: 64.57; Control: 63.71). Conversely, the posttest results demonstrated a significant difference, with the average posttest score for the experimental class reaching 84.29, while the control class achieved 72.86. The conclusion is that the Shuffle and Recall game proved to be an effective tool for improving the Arabic vocabulary mastery of tenth-grade students at MAN 1 Semarang City. This game facilitates active learning, enhances short-term and long-term memory through retrieval practice, and fosters increased student learning motivation.

Abstract

West Sumatra's creative industry is growing rapidly and demonstrating a strategic role in strengthening the culture-based economy. However, this complex creative ecosystem has not been comprehensively mapped through informative and communicative visual media. This research aims to design elements of a West Sumatra creative industry map using a storytelling visualization approach, a method that combines data, narrative, and visual elements to produce a more meaningful representation of information. Furthermore, this study applies digital imaging isometric art techniques as a design approach to create more structural, detailed, and readable map visuals, and utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a finishing tool to refine graphic elements. The research method is carried out through the stages of literature data collection, isometric visual design, and AI-based graphic refinement. The results show that the integration of storytelling visualization with isometric art can improve the clarity of information structure, strengthen the Minangkabau cultural narrative, and provide a more immersive visual experience for users. The use of AI has proven effective in accelerating the visual refinement process without eliminating the character of manual design. This research contributes to the development of creative mapping methods based on visual narratives and offers a new design model that can be applied to creative mapping contexts in other regions.

Abstract

The ASRI (Aksi Semanding Sadar Lingkungan) program was developed as a solution to the problem of waste management in Semanding Village, Kauman District, Ponorogo Regency. The habit of burning waste in this village is caused by the lack of education about the negative impacts of burning and the lack of waste management facilities. The ASRI program takes a partnership approach between Semanding Village and Maesojennar Waste Bank, which receives support from village officials and relevant stakeholders to increase awareness and practice of waste segregation. A series of ASRI programs including socialization, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), pre-test and post-test, and behavior change monitoring were carried out from January 8, 2025 to January 24, 2025 as an intensive activity phase, and continued with follow-up monitoring for the next six months to ensure the sustainability of changes in community behavior related to waste management. The results of the program showed that 75% of the socialization participants understood the negative impact of burning waste, and 15 out of 20 monitored households successfully implemented waste segregation. The program also began to provide economic benefits to the community through the sale of segregated waste. The sustainability of the program can be improved by expanding partnerships, improving waste management facilities, and implementing village policies that support sustainable waste management.
