Abstract

Turmeric is an herbal plant that has antibacterial and antioxidant abilities, and also to improve the fish's immune system. The aim of this research was to look at the histological structure of kidney and survival rate fish which was given feed with turmeric flour before and after infected with A. hydrophila. This research was conducted from February to May 2019 in the Laboratory of Parasites and Fish Diseases of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, University of Riau. The method in this research was the experimental method by one-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five levels. Kn (feeding without given turmeric flour and without infection with A. hydrophila), Kp (Feeding without given turmeric flour and infected with A. hydrophila), P1 (turmeric flour at a dose of 0.5 g / kg of feed), P2 (dose of 0.7 g / kg), P3 (dose of 0.9 g / kg). The results showed that the histological structure of catfish which was given the addition of turmeric flour in feed by normal conditions and after being challenged with A. hydrophila showed some damage to the gill and kidney structure. The best dose of adding turmeric flour to feed is 0.7 g / kg of feed (P2), seen from the structure of the kidney cell, and the best survival. Histological structure of kidney cell structure in P2 treatment has abnormality such as hemorrhage and survival rate 100%.

Abstract

Thyroxine hormones (T4) is a technology that is used to stimulate fish growth. This hormone is produced by the thyroid gland and functioning in general metabolism and growth. This study was conducted from May-July 2016 in Hatchery and Breeding Laboratory, Department of Aquaculture, Fisheries and Marine Sciences Faculty, Riau University. This study was aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the thyroxine hormone (T4) at different dosages to the growth of Pawas fish (Osteochillus hasselti CV), and reared with different density. This study used a complete randomized design with two factors (densities and dosages of hormones) and 3 repetitions. The densities that used were 20, 30 and 40 fish / cage. The hormone dosages given in this study were 2, 4, and 6 mg/kg. The results showed that the density 20 fish/cage is the best density in Pawas culture where the best result of the growth parameters obtained. Addition of thyroxine at a dosage of 6 mg / kg of feed provided the best results on the absolute weight growth (5:12 ± 1.70 g), daily growth rate (2.64 ± 12:47%), protein retention (58.76 ± 8:34%) and the levels of muscle glycogen (4:54 ± 0.20). Addition of thyroxine at a dosage of 4 mg/kg feed gave the best results in the absolute long growth (4.72± 0.89 cm), feed conversion ratio (1:44 ± 0.57), fat retention (108.50 ± 12:47%) and the levels of liver glycogen (6:12 ± 2.60).

Abstract

A study on relative growth of Ompok sp obtained from the Kampar andSiak Rivers has been conducted on April to June 2011. This study aims tounderstand the similarity and differences of the fish that inhabit those rivers,Kampar River with good water quality and Siak River that with poor waterquality. There were 84 fishes from the Kampar River (in the Teratak Buluhvillage) and 31 fishes from the Siak River (in the Tapung village) were capturedin this study. The meristical characteristics were studied and the morphologicalcharacteristics were analyzed to understand the relative growth of the fish. Resultsshown that there were no difference in the meristical and morphologicalcharacteristics of the fishes obtained from both sampling areas and its indicate thatthe fishes sampled were belonged to a single species. Data also shown that almostall of fish’s body morphometrical characteristics grow isometrically to total lengthand it means that the fish was not showing any morphological changes as theygrow. However, in the wegth-length relationship, the b values of the fishes fromboth sampling area was less than 3 and its indicate that increasing in fish bodyweight was slower than the increment of fish total length. Based on data obtained,it can be concluded that there was no difference in relative growth pattern of fishliving in the Kampar and Siak Rivers.
