Abstract

This study aims to analyze the challenges teachers face in teaching basic grammar, the factors which contribute to these challenges, and the solutions implemented to overcome them. Descriptive qualitative research is utilized in this research. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. To ensure validity, data triangulation was employed to compare findings from these sources. The findings reveal several challenges, such as uneven grammar understanding among students, reluctance, drowsiness, and tardiness. These issues are influenced by diverse student backgrounds, unfamiliar terminologies, and poor sleeping habits. Based on the findings, the study highlights some implications for teaching practices. Teachers provide additional learning support outside of class hours, regularly motivate students through encouragement, and implement an energetic teaching style to sustain engagement in learning. After finding and analyzing the data of this study, it can be concluded that the teachers faced challenges in teaching basic grammar. These challenges were overcome through different solutions which helped and ensured the continued success of grammar instruction.

Abstract

As technology becomes a more integrated part of current education, digital literacy is one aspect that teachers will need to develop in their students, alongside the use of technology. Therefore, teachers, especially English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers, need to find practical ways to develop and enhance their students’ digital literacy ability successfully. To achieve that goal, the researcher analyzed fifteen articles published online from 2021 to 2025 using the Google Scholar database. The data results from the systematic literature review are categorized into five themes: (1) teachers design a customized reading lesson plan, (2) teachers are trained in digital literacy, (3) teachers strengthen students’ digital competencies in reading, (4) teachers raise awareness about the importance of digital literacy, (5) teachers integrate technology to students’ reading activities. The discussion of each theme is connected to the relevant literature. At the end, the study then provided suggestions for future research.

Abstract

This research endeavors to systematically analyses the perceptions of language learners concerning the integration of ChatGPT as an innovative tool for augmenting their English language competencies. Adopting a qualitative paradigm through a case study design, the study meticulously selected participants based on rigorous inclusion criteria, namely, documented experience employing ChatGPT not only for university assignment but also potentially for extracurricular or personal endeavors. Specifically, four undergraduate students of the Early Childhood Education Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training at the second semester, enrolled in UIN Kiai Ageng Muhammad Besari Ponorogo deliberately chosen to participate, ensuring a focused yet representative sample within this contextual framework. The empirical findings robustly substantiate learners’ affirmative perceptions of ChatGPT’s instrumental value in fostering English language skill enhancement. Participants consistently emphasized its multifaceted utility across key domains, including interactive speaking exercises to improve fluency, enhanced writing skills, quick text translation to aid comprehension, vocabulary expansion, and mastery of idiomatic expressions, as well as assistance with grammatical corrections. From a broader perspective, the predominantly positive appraisals of ChatGPT’s applicability signal compelling opportunities for educational stakeholders. Higher education institutions and digital language learning platform are encouraged to strategically embed analogous AI-powered conversational tools into curricula and resources.

Abstract

Podcasts have grown into one of the most effective digital media for supporting English language learning among EFL students. This study examines students' perceptions and motivation toward podcast use at UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten, Indonesia, exploring both constructs within a single quantitative framework, an approach that has received limited attention in Indonesian higher education. A quantitative descriptive design was employed, involving 90 students from semesters 2, 4, and 6 of the English Language Education Department. Data were gathered through a 20-item closed-ended questionnaire with a four-point Likert scale via Google Forms and analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and response percentages. Results indicate that students demonstrated largely positive perceptions of podcasts, with mean scores ranging from 2.93 to 3.31, especially regarding accessibility, pronunciation, and vocabulary development. Motivation was equally encouraging, with mean scores ranging from 2.87 to 3.26, reflecting persistence and eagerness to improve English proficiency. Nevertheless, difficulties in comprehending content and managing independent study time were noted. The study affirms that favorable perceptions correlate with stronger intrinsic motivation, providing valuable insights for lecturers, students, and institutions aiming to incorporate podcasts into EFL instruction more effectively.

Abstract

Speaking is an essential English skill, yet it can be troublesome for many learners. Every English teacher must implement teaching strategies to support the achievement of learning objectives in speaking classes. Speaking problems also appeared in MA Ma'arif NU Sains Al-Qur'an Sumbang. Therefore, the researchers conducted action research using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) techniques to boost the speaking skill of eleventh-grade students. Additionally, this investigation aims to explore students’ perceptions. The action research was conducted through planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The enhancement of speaking skill was measured through pre-test and post-test by calculating the average scores. Moreover, the students’ opinions were explored through a questionnaire, and the data were analysed by calculating the percentage of each item. The test results demonstrated a notable increase in students’ speaking ability. In cycle 1, the average scores increased from 47.67 to 85.11.  Then, in Cycle 2, students’ English-speaking skill increased from 62.73 to 85.5. Additionally, based on the survey, the majority of students admitted that CLT exercises were enjoyable and useful in improving their speaking ability and confidence. The study shows that CLT exercises are successful in enhancing students' speaking skill, and it receives positive opinions from the students
