Abstract

This study examines the social dynamics and arenas of contestation among social elites in the construction of mosques in Lombok, using Pierre Bourdieu’s social capital arena theory framework. The focus of the study is on how social capital particularly symbolic capital and relational capital is utilized by various elite groups to vie for influence and legitimacy in the process of constructing mosques, which serve as symbols of identity and social power. A qualitative field research method with a case study approach was used to explore the social interactions, strategies, and conflicts occurring behind the construction of mosques in the region. The findings indicate that mosque construction is not merely a religious activity but also an arena for the contestation of social capital involving negotiation, coalition-building, and competition among social elites. This study contributes to the understanding of the relationship between social capital and local power dynamics in the context of religious social development in Lombok. Abstract

The intensifying competition among educational institutions necessitates that madrasahs move beyond conventional academic services to establish a strong and distinctive institutional brand image. This study analyzes: (1) the implementation of the Inspirational Class Program in enhancing the brand image of MAN 2 Pasuruan; (2) the challenges encountered during program implementation; and (3) the program’s impact on strengthening brand image and stakeholder trust. A descriptive qualitative approach utilizing field research was employed. Data collection methods included participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings demonstrate that the Inspirational Class Program—comprising Tahfidz, Literacy, Bilingual, Fashion, and Digital classes—is systematically managed through Planning, implementation, and evaluation. The program effectively enhances the madrasah’s brand image in multiple dimensions by simultaneously cultivating religious, intellectual, global, creative, and modern identities. Key constraints include uneven human resource competencies, budget limitations, and infrastructure gaps. This study advances Islamic education marketing management by highlighting program innovation strategies as tools for institutional branding. Abstract

This study examines the strategic management of student services to optimise service delivery based on the Student Information System (SIS) at the Al-Yasini Integrated Islamic Boarding School. The increasingly complex development of Islamic boarding schools demands an integrated, effective, and technology-based service system. However, the implementation of the SIS still faces various challenges, including human resources, system integration, and managerial oversight. This study aims to: (1) identify the forms and characteristics of SIS-based services for boarding school students; (2) analyse the obstacles to their implementation; and (3) analyse management strategies for optimising SIS-based services. The method used is a qualitative approach employing a case study design. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation, with data analysis involving data reduction, data presentation, conclusion, and triangulation. The research findings indicate that SIS-based services encompass administrative services, attendance tracking, authorisation processes, communication with students’ guardians, and digital data management, all characterised by speed, accuracy, and transparency. The main constraints include limited staff competence in technology, a lack of system integration, and the continued use of manual systems. The strategies implemented include applying management functions (planning, organising, executing, and monitoring), strengthening institutional policies, enhancing staff competencies through training, and developing a more integrated system. These strategies have been shown to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of services for students. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of transcendental communication in the film Buya Hamka Vol. 1 through Roland Barthes' semiotic approach and interpret it from the perspective of the Qur'an. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with the primary data source being Buya Hamka Vol. 1, directed by Fajar Bustomi. Data were collected through documentation of dialogues, visuals, expressions, and religious symbols containing values of transcendental communication. The analysis was conducted using Roland Barthes' three levels of semiotics: denotation, connotation, and myth, and was subsequently interpreted based on Qur'anic verses. The findings reveal that the film represents transcendental communication in three main dimensions: (1) transcendental communication through patience and trust in God (tawakkul) in facing life's trials; (2) transcendental communication through da'wah and the pursuit of knowledge as forms of worship and spiritual transformation; and (3) transcendental communication through steadfast monotheism (tawhid) and moral integrity in confronting socio-political pressures. This study offers a semiotic-theological reading model that integrates Roland Barthes' semiotics with the Qur'an-based concept of transcendental communication, thereby broadening the scope of Islamic communication studies in religious films. Abstract

The transformation of the modern economy, marked by the development of various financial products and services, such as conventional banking, credit cards, and digital-based loans, has given rise to debate regarding their suitability with Islamic sharia principles, particularly regarding the concept of usury. Differences in understanding of hadiths on usury also influence how Muslims view contemporary economic practices. In this context, the perspectives of hadith lecturers, as academics with scientific authority, are important to examine to provide a comprehensive understanding of the relevance of hadiths on usury to modern economic dynamics. This study aims to analyze the understanding of hadith lecturers at UIN North Sumatra Medan regarding hadiths on usury and examine their relevance to modern economic practices. This research used a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation with three hadith lecturers at UIN North Sumatra Medan. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the hadith lecturers understand usury as an additional requirement in debt transactions and its prohibition according to the Qur'an and hadith. In understanding the hadiths on usury, the informants used a textual and contextual approach, enabling them to connect the content of the hadiths with contemporary economic realities. Interest on online loans, credit cards, and conventional banks is seen as linked to the concept of usury (riba). This study concludes that the hadiths on usury remain relevant as a normative basis for assessing various modern economic practices to ensure they align with the principles of justice and Islamic sharia values. Abstract

The formation of students' religious character in the modern era faces various challenges due to the suboptimal internalization of religious values in daily life. In many educational institutions, the habit of reading the Qur'an is still viewed as a religious routine, so it has not been widely studied as a Living Qur'an practice that can connect the Qur'an text with the formation of students' character. This study aims to analyze the practice of Living Qur'an as a medium for internalizing the values of Surah Yasin in the formation of students' religious character at SMP IT Nurul Fadhilah. The study employed a qualitative approach with fieldwork. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the practice of Living the Qur'an is realized through the habit of reciting Surah Yasin every Friday morning, combined with the memorization and tahsin programs. The tradition of repeating Surah Yasin verse 82 three times shows the performative, hermeneutic, and functional reception of the Al-Qur'an so that this practice not only becomes a ritual activity but also becomes a medium for internalizing the values of monotheism, trust, prayer, and love for the Al-Qur'an. This process encourages changes in students' attitudes from obedience to school rules to religious awareness, which is reflected in the discipline of worship, respect for parents and teachers, responsibility, and the habit of interacting with the Koran outside the school environment. This Research contributes to the development of Living Qur'an studies in the context of Islamic education by showing that the practice of Living Qur'an can function as a medium for internalizing Al-Qur'an values in the formation of students' religious character.
