Abstract

Proper harvest handling has an influence in reducing yield losses. Harvesting activities must be carried out at the right time, using the correct tools or techniques and implementing an appropriate harvest system. The harvesting machines currently on the market are large-scale harvesting machines, relatively large in size and very heavy. Based on these problems, research was carried out aimed at design, construction and testing a small rice stalk cutting machine that has high mobility. The method in this research includes the stages of design, construction, testing and data analysis. The data measured in the test are movement speed and cutting capacity. Based on design and construction results, the rice stalk cutting machine has specifications for length 82 cm, width 62 cm, height 95 cm, drive motor power 1.25 kW, and cutting blade rotation speed 1,900 rpm. The test results show that the average cutting forward speed is 0.330 m/s and the average cutting capacity is 0.132 m2/s.

Abstract

Globalization is something that we cannot avoid. Even though globalization is a good thing, there are several bad things caused by globalization. Such as population growth and increasing energy use. Excessive energy use can cause air pollution, depletion of the ozone layer, and depletion of fossil energy reserves. Therefore, it is necessary to use renewable energy from materials that we can easily get such as biomass. Utilization of biomass as energy can be converted using the gasification process. This process will produce combustible gas containing CO, H2, and CH4. This research uses several variations in air flow rate which will influence the combustion time, temperature in the reactor, and gas composition. As well as the use of various filters made from corn cobs, coconut fibers and sponges which affect the gas composition and gasification efficiency

Abstract

The Global Burden of Disease Report predicts that traffic accidents will rise from the 9th to the 3rd leading cause of death and disability by 2030. Motorized accidents pose a risk of knee impact during falls, which is a common hazard in various activities, particularly when riding a motorcycle. In some cases, personal protective equipment such as leg pads or decks are necessary. The utilization of PLA as a material for 3D printed footwear is an intriguing innovation. This research aims to manufacture a foot plug using 3D printing to practically determine the material's mechanical properties and simulate finite elements to achieve desired results, including lightweight (flexibility), customization, rapid prototyping, and ergonomic design integration. The ASTM D638 Type I specimen and foot plug were made of Polylactic Acid + Sunlu. The tensile test resulted in an average Tensile Strength (σ TS) of 28.03 Mpa, Displacement (u) of 4.98 mm, Elongation at break (δ) of 8.74%, and Modulus of Elasticity (E) of 0.319 Gpa. The finite element simulation showed that the maximum stress remained below the yield strength limit, with a safety factor of 2.03 in this research foot plug

Abstract

Puger Kulon Coast Fishermen are traditional fishermen who still rely on decreasing knowledge and simple catch tools in searching for fish. Fishers experience a variety of challenges in finding fish due to various factors such as, seasons, climate, uncertain weather, and the limitation of catch devices making them difficult to find fish. This activity aims to provide a solution to the problems experienced by our partners, the traditional fishermen in the village of Puger Kulon. The problem that the partners are experiencing is the instability of the catch. The methods of implementation of these activities include the study of literature, socialization, preparation of tools and materials, planning and design of tools, implementation and testing tools, supporting and training in the use of instruments, and evaluation. The Electronic Calling Tool can be used for up to 13 hours on full battery, but it is recommended that partners use the device for a maximum of 8 hours to extend the device's service life. Implementation of the program has gone well and achieved good results demonstrated by increased catch yields of 28% and fuel savings of 20%. The system and components of the eFAD must be regularly monitored and controlled according to the program implementation guidelines given.

Abstract

Composite materials are developing very rapidly. Composite materials are widely used in the automotive industry. Composite materials used in industry are required to have burn resistance. In transportation service regulations, it has been suggested that this material must be burnt-resistant to reduce the high risk. In this research, additional materials were used to make composite materials. The extra material is clay, which is obtained from grinding red bricks. The clay grain size is mesh 200. The variations used are 0:2:88; 3:9:88: 6:6:12; 9:3:88; 12:0:88 (clay, fiber, polyester resin: %). This research aims to determine composite materials' tensile strength and burn resistance. The method used is printing specimens using the hand layup method. The tests carried out were tensile tests, burn tests, and SEM photos. The research results show that at a composition of 0% clay, the tensile strength is 55.65 MPa. The maximum tensile strength at a percentage of 3% clay is 58.67 MPa. The tensile strength decreases at percentages of 6, 9, and 12 clay. Maximum burn resistance at a percentage of 12% clay. The smaller the clay percentage, the higher the burning speed. From the test results, the percentage suitable for use in industry is 3% clay and 9% fiber. This material has tensile strength that meets standards and good burn resistance.

Abstract

Indoor vertical farming is a method of growing plants in layers that are stacked vertically or integrated into other structures by using water as a growing medium / hydroponics. One method or hydroponic system that is often used for plant cultivation in indoor vertical farming is Nutrient Film Technique (NFT). The NFT hydroponic system is a type of hydroponics that has a method of plant cultivation where plant roots grow in a shallow and circulating layer so that plants can get enough water, nutrients and oxygen. In maximising the prevention of obstacles and challenges that occur in vertical hydroponic plant cultivation indoors, it is necessary to design an adjustable rack design as a concept or description of solutions in the form of analysis of rack comparison testing using 3D images viewed from stress, displacement and FOS (factor of safety) of the rack to determine the material and specification of the indoor vertical farming rack and further increase the efficiency value of the existing hydroponic rack system.

Abstract

Coil springs are important components used in vehicles or machinery for vibration damping and load-bearing systems. Made of spiral-shaped steel, coil springs function to absorb the energy received. In vehicles, these springs help absorb vibrations and loads, thus providing a comfortable and safe ride. To ensure its strength, coil springs are tested by various methods, one of which is the finite element method. This method uses numerical techniques for structural analysis through simulations using software such as ANSYS and Autodesk Inventor. This simulation aims to compare the results of coil springs with variations in the number of turns. The results show that the coil spring with 10 turns has the lowest maximum stress and the highest displacement. The difference in results between the two software is due to the difference in problem solving methods. According to the simulations, the best material for the coil spring with 10 turns is high carbon steel according to ANSYS and nickel-cobalt-chrome alloy according to Autodesk Inventor.

Abstract

Welded joining is a process of joining two or more similar metals by melting the area around the weld so that the metallurgical bonding of the weld metal occurs. In welding with filler metal, metals that have the same characteristics as the base metal are generally used. For welding thick pipes, notches and gaps are always made so that the filler metal can fill the area. The amount of filler metal will affect the strength of the weld. From the experimental results using E60xx and E70xx electrodes at a combined pressure of 60 bar, it gives good welding results at 1 mm filler filling. This result is in accordance with what is recommended by ASME.

Abstract

50 kg wet rebon shrimp drying machine is an energy-saving tool that works by flowing hot air with a temperature between 40 to 50 degrees Celsius to the surface of rebon shrimp. The main component of this drying machine is heat exchanger. Air and husks are burned to produce heat energy. The gas then passes through the heat exchanger tube using a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger used is a cross-flow heat exchanger, meaning that the gas released after burning the husk is not mixed with the air fluid. To determine the performance of the heat exchanger, the construction plan is designed using the IMTD approach and as effective as possible because CFD simulation is integrated into Anys15.0. The results of previous measurements and calculations are the input data entered into the application. With a turnaround time of 8 hours, 50 kg of fresh rebon shrimp can be dried to 31.2 kg of water thanks to the 103.5 watt heat flow rate from the air dryer.

Abstract

JIS SUP9 steel is known for its mechanical properties that are able to withstand continuous loads. In this regard, further observation is needed in order to comprehensively determine the strength and fatigue characteristic of JIS SUP9 steel which will be used to predict its service life by conducting both tensile and fatigue test experiments, then subjecting the steel to Austempering heat treatment with a salt solution at 800 degrees Celsius for 120 minutes followed by cooling to room temperature. The results of the tensile test showed the maximum stress of the steel indicating a higher strength of the steel to 1087.16 MPa hence the specimen became brittle. The fatigue test results showed that the specimen perpendicular to the rolling direction had a cycle of 60,000N and a crack propagation of 20.8 mm, whereas the specimen with the same rolling direction produced a cycle of 37,500N but a crack length of 21.2 mm. The test results showed the high cycle fatigue properties of the specimen because microstructure observations using Optical Microscopy (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) revealing Pearlite, Bainite, and Ferrite phases. This is the reason and answer why JIS SUP9 Steel can still be relied on as a spring material for vehicles that carry loads.
