Abstract

This study examines the geographical distribution and variation of local wisdom in Indonesia and its implications for cultural preservation. Local wisdom is traditional knowledge developed from the long-term interaction between communities and their environment, influenced by geographical conditions such as climate, topography, and natural resources. These geographical variations result in diverse forms of local wisdom that adapt to the physical and social environment. This study employs a literature review method by analyzing relevant literature to identify critical patterns and themes related to the relationship between geography and local wisdom. The findings indicate that geographical environments greatly influence local wisdom and are crucial in maintaining ecosystem balance and cultural identity. However, modern challenges such as globalization, urbanization, and environmental changes threaten the preservation of local wisdom. Therefore, preservation strategies involving systematic documentation, education, and cultural protection policies are needed. This study emphasizes the importance of preserving local wisdom to safeguard cultural heritage and environmental sustainability in Indonesia

Abstract

Abstrak This study aims to discuss the Kashmir border dispute from the perspective of international law. The research method used in this study is qualitative. Qualitative research produces information in the form of notes and descriptive data found within the text being studied, utilizing data collection methods that are deemed relevant to the issues at hand and are characterized as a literature study. This research explains that Kashmir is a region coveted by two countries, India and Pakistan, leading to a highly disruptive conflict in South Asia. Based on the findings, the conflict between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir region is considered a dispute according to international law, as both India and Pakistan claim the territory. The Kashmir dispute arises from two main factors: religion and borders. Since the conflict between India and Pakistan over Kashmir is an international conflict, its resolution also involves international organizations such as SAARC and the United Nations.

Abstract

Criticism is an essential component of any democratic system, serving as a means for the public to hold their leaders accountable. In Indonesia, which upholds democratic principles in its governance, the role of criticism has evolved significantly over time. During the era of President Soeharto, the freedom of the press was severely restricted due to government intervention and Soeharto's authoritative control over media outlets. This suppression of the press stifled dissent and prevented many criticisms from reaching the government, creating an environment where public discourse was heavily censored. The situation changed dramatically following Soeharto's resignation in 1998, which marked the end of the New Order regime. The subsequent reformation era brought about significant changes in the governmental structure, including the restoration of press freedom. This newfound freedom enabled the media to serve as a platform for public criticism and fostered a more open and transparent dialogue between the government and the citizens. This review delves into the impact of press freedom on government criticism in post-New Order Indonesia. By analyzing various literature sources and academic journals, it aims to explore how the re-establishment of press freedom has influenced the development and expression of public criticism toward the government, ultimately contributing to a more democratic society.

Abstract

This article discusses the situation during the Indonesian War of Independence in Surakarta, particularly in relation to the political and social circumstances in Indonesia at that time. In 1945, Indonesia declared its independence after more than three and a half centuries of Dutch colonial rule. However, the Netherlands did not recognize Indonesia's independence and initiated military operations to reclaim its former colony. When the Dutch began their military operations, Surakarta became one of their primary targets. Surakarta was an important city in Central Java, serving as a center of government and culture in the region. Additionally, Surakarta was strategically significant due to its access to a seaport and major transportation routes in Central Java. At that time, Surakarta also had a relatively strong military presence compared to other areas in Central Java. This made the Dutch view Surakarta as a strategic point that needed to be controlled in order to regain their colony. However, the people of Surakarta did not remain passive and prepared themselves to resist the Dutch invaders. The people of Surakarta were fueled by a strong sense of nationalism and saw the struggle for independence as a duty. Thus, the background of the War of Independence in Surakarta is rooted in the political and social situation in Indonesia at the time, where Indonesians were fighting for their independence while the Dutch conducted military operations to reclaim their former colony, including Surakarta, which had a relatively strong military presence..

Abstract

A tradition can be understood as a custom passed down through generations and still practised within a community. The most fundamental aspect of a tradition is the transmission of information from one generation to the next, whether written or oral, because, without this, a tradition will become extinct and will not evolve. There are many different traditions passed down in each region, such as in the village of Abar Abir in Gresik Regency, where the Nyadran and Pencak Silat traditions are practised. These traditions, handed down through generations, carry significant religious meanings and ancestral legacies, ensuring that future generations can continue them.

Abstract

As the world's largest archipelago, Indonesia is vulnerable to various natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and floods. These conditions pose significant challenges to the tourism sector, one of the main contributors to the national economy. This study explores the impact of disaster mitigation on tourism growth in Indonesia's island regions. A literature review method was used to collect and analyze data from various relevant sources, including scientific journals, books, research reports, and media articles. The research findings indicate that effective disaster mitigation measures, such as the development of resilient infrastructure, comprehensive risk planning and management, community education and preparedness, and the use of modern technology for early warning systems, can reduce the negative impact of disasters and accelerate the recovery of the tourism sector. Additionally, cooperation between the government, private industry, and communities plays a crucial role in the success of mitigation efforts. With comprehensive and collaborative mitigation measures, Indonesia can enhance the competitiveness of its tourist destinations, strengthen tourist confidence, and support the national economy. The study concludes that disaster mitigation must be integral to tourism development policies to ensure safe and sustainable destinations.
