Abstract

In the learning process for history subjects, conventional approaches still dominate, remaining teacher-centred. History lessons often appear to simply involve the teacher transferring knowledge to students through lectures based on textbook material. Students are rarely encouraged to interact and collaborate with their peers or the teacher. History teachers tend to focus only on explaining historical facts such as chronological dates, names of figures, places, and events without making efforts to impart meaning to these historical occurrences. Students perceive memorizing historical facts as a heavy burden, viewing the material as too extensive and lacking practical value. The role-playing method is a teaching and learning process categorized under simulation methods. A simulation is a teaching approach that involves mimicking behaviours in a controlled setting. In history education, the role-playing method can be utilized to engage students in acting out the roles of figures involved in historical events. The implementation of the role-playing method in history education is expected to enhance students' process skills and learning outcomes. The learning process through role-playing can provide students with examples of human behaviour that serve as tools for understanding life. Additionally, this method is anticipated to improve students' process skills and academic performance.

Abstract

This article examines how local genius within communities has given rise to tangible societal idioms. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that the values implied in Pancasila serve as a social capital for the Indonesian state. Pancasila, as the foundational ideology of the state, faces challenges due to ideological conflicts and acts of terrorism that threaten the unity of the nation. In the context of Maluku, the values of Pancasila have inherently existed within the bonds of Pela. Since the time of their ancestors, the people of Maluku have upheld a philosophy of brotherhood, even before the emergence of Pancasila democracy. For instance, the author’s research findings related to the harmonious brotherhood between Muslims and Christians are evident in the relationships between the four Pela villages: Haya (Islam), Tehua (Islam), Hatu (Christian), and Wassu (Christian). The values of Pela, upheld by the people of Maluku, extend beyond religious diversity; they are manifested in everyday interactions, where these four villages support each other in economic, political, and social matters. A qualitative case study approach was used to explore the Pela culture of the Maluku people, which embodies the values of Pancasila. Data was collected through direct observation, with the research conducted in the villages of Haya, Hatu, Tehua, and Wassu. Interviews were conducted with local government officials and community members. In addition to field data, the author sought secondary data through literature, including books and scientific journals. This study reveals that the Pela relationship embodies the integrative values inherent in Pancasila.

Abstract

Tan Malaka was a militant, radical, and revolutionary fighter who contributed many original ideas towards achieving Indonesia's independence. Discussing Tan Malaka is highly contradictory because his name is often associated with Marxist communism, which is banned in Indonesia. However, he was not a fundamentalist Marxist; instead, he used Marxism as a tool in the struggle to achieve the goal of Indonesian independence. As a result, Tan Malaka's name has never been seriously introduced to the public, especially to the younger generation in the educational system. The purpose of this article is to analyze Tan Malaka's struggle in order to revive his legacy, which has been buried in oblivion, and to instil his fighting spirit and exemplary character in the process of shaping the current generation. The method used in writing this article is a literature study. The results of this article indicate that Tan Malaka's existence should be equated with the founders of Indonesia, with the hope that his ideas, as expressed in his works, can be used as a reference for building a better nation in the future. Though Tan Malaka is no longer with us, his fighting spirit can serve as an example for the present generation.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the understanding of the Akoon community on Nusalaut Island regarding the sacred site of Pusa Pulu. The focus is on the community's activities at Pusa Pulu, which are an integral part of life on Nusalaut Island. Pusa Pulu has also witnessed the encounter between culture and religion, which the community interprets as part of their local cosmology. The cultural and religious approaches of Jack David Eller and Chris Jenks are used to analyze the understanding of Pusa Pulu. A qualitative research method with an ethnographic approach was employed, and data were collected using interviews and literature reviews. For the Akoon community, Pusa Pulu is considered, first, a dwelling place for the ancestors of Nusalaut; second, a sacred site; third, a place that humbles everyone in the community; and fourth, a place of encounter with God as part of the reproduction of culture.

Abstract

The Wela-wela tradition is a deeply rooted cultural practice that plays a significant role in the wedding ceremonies of certain Indonesian communities. This tradition is rich in symbolism and is carried out in three distinct phases, each holding its own cultural significance. The process begins with a deliberation or consultation among the families involved, highlighting the communal aspect of the tradition. The first phase of the Wela-wela occurs when the groom arrives at the bride's house, specifically in front of the sabuah (a ceremonial tent), marking the initial formal meeting between the two families. This moment is crucial as it symbolizes the groom's respectful approach and request for the bride's hand in marriage. The second phase takes place at the front door of the bride's house, where the groom is met with another Wela-wela, representing a more intimate acceptance by the bride's family. This step underscores the importance of familial consent and the gradual transition of the bride from her family to the groom. The final Wela-wela occurs when the groom comes to escort the bride to their new home, symbolizing the completion of the union. This tradition not only serves to honor the bride and her family but also adds a festive and respectful atmosphere to the wedding ceremony. Through these rituals, the Wela-wela tradition reinforces the values of respect, family unity, and cultural heritage, making it a vital component of the wedding process.

Abstract

The Rsaw Lasmyer ritual in Namtabung is mandatory for newcomers entering the village of Namtabung. Rsaw Lasmyer holds a unique appeal and carries significant value for those new to the town. This research aims to understand the process of the Rsaw Lasmyer ritual and the values it holds for the people of Namtabung. The study employs qualitative research using an ethnographic approach, which involves a description of a culture through an anthropological lens. The findings indicate that the Rsaw Lasmyer ritual in Namtabung is a form of traditional tikam tanah where both newcomers and locals who have never entered the village must undergo the ritual. The Rsaw Lasmyer ritual consists of four stages. Before the ritual begins, newcomers must place sand on their foreheads and walk to the front of the village to start the Rsaw Lasmyer process, visiting each house of the village chief (Raja). The ritual involves the use of specific tools to offer food and drink to the ancestors, with family members accompanying the newcomer throughout the process. Changes in the Rsaw Lasmyer ritual have occurred, particularly in the attributes and trays (nyiru) used. The values embodied in the ritual signify that newcomers cannot be disturbed, as they are now considered part of the Namtabung community.
