Abstract

This research investigated how the government stabilized its economy in terms of government spending during the global crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study also tried to identify whether there is a difference in the amount of government spending from the aspect of government spending before the global crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic and after the global crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic. The data covered all members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) spread across 4 continents. In looking at which factors affect economic growth, multiple linear regression is used, and a comparative test is carried out by conducting a Different Paired Sample T-Test. After testing in this study, researchers found that there were differences in government policies in terms of government spending carried out before the global crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic and after the global crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic. The independent variables used in the study had a significant positive influence except for the population. This research also shows that the government's efforts to maintain economic growth by increasing government spending are policies that have been implemented globally. This research is expected to provide recommendations for policies that can be implemented by the government in an effort to stabilize the economy, including increasing per capita income, increasing the human development index, and increasing trade activities abroad and domestically.

Abstract

This study aims to employ Islamic marketplace attractiveness to predict Muslim female customer retention and price attributes to trigger the predictor effect to encourage Islamic marketplaces to lead Indonesian e-commerce. The data were processed with SPSS and Amos programs and collected through the questionnaire filled in by 407 respondents taken using purposive, snowball, and non-probable sampling methods in a survey conducted for 2 months. The respondents were Muslim female customers who had experience purchasing fashion products in Islamic marketplaces.  The Findings show that Islamic marketplace attractiveness is the predictor of Muslim female customer retention. Meanwhile, price attributes partially trigger the Islamic marketplace attractiveness effect on Muslim female customer retention.  The findings are insights from Indonesia for developing countries, especially for Muslim developing countries, to encourage Islamic marketplaces to lead e-commerce, especially for their digital economic growth, by predicting Muslim female customer retention.  All research constructs can implement the Theory of Reasoned Action in an e-commerce context. Since the theory reveals that behavior is determined by a predictor, Islamic marketplace attractiveness is the predictor of Muslim female customer retention on Islamic marketplaces. Meanwhile, price attributes are the trigger for the predictor effect on Muslim female customer retention.

Abstract

In the Islamic community, discussions on zakat utilization often center around its most effective use. Some believe that zakat should only be distributed to the eight categories of mustahik, while scholars like Ibn Asyur suggest that zakat can be used productively when applied with the right intentions and methods. This study investigated how productive zakat can contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly supporting economic and human advancement. This study used an explanatory qualitative approach with secondary data to reconstruct the theoretical and empirical frameworks that assess the impact of zakat productive distribution by zakat amil institutions. These institutions adhere to the principles of wasilah (means) and maqsud (intention) in the productive use of zakat funds productively to Ibn Asyur's contemporary maqasid Sharia perspective. Zakat can fulfill essential human needs, benefiting both mustahik and society at large. The findings suggest that productive zakat contributes significantly to poverty reduction, health improvement, educational access, economic growth, and environmental sustainability, aligning closely with the objectives of the SDGs.

Abstract

This study explores the potential of Indonesia, particularly Lombok, as a leading halal tourism destination. Despite being ranked first in the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) by 2023, Indonesia has yet to meet its target of attracting 25% of foreign tourists as Muslims by 2022. Lombok plays a key role in this vision, yet stakeholders hold divergent views on the sustainability of halal tourism there. Discussions on the business and environmental aspects of halal tourism, with respect to stakeholder synergy and innovation, are still limited. This research aims to examine how stakeholders perceive halal tourism in Lombok and the ways in which they collaborate and innovate to ensure its sustainability. A qualitative approach was employed, using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five purposively selected stakeholders, chosen for their significant involvement in sustaining halal tourism. The data were analysed using Atlas.ti software to ensure accurate representation. Findings reveal contrasting stakeholder views on the future of halal tourism in Lombok. While some support it for its uniqueness, others express concerns about possible restrictions and favour alternative tourism types. For sustainability, stakeholder synergy and innovation are essential. Key measures include creating direct flight routes from Muslim-majority countries, fostering local partnerships, and promoting environmental and business sustainability. Additionally, government-driven initiatives like international events and halal certification could attract more tourists, while education and training would empower local communities.

Abstract

This research analyzed and explored the potential for developing mosque-based halal tourism on the island of Lombok, which is known as the Island of a Thousand Mosques and is rich in culture and nature. Several mosques in Lombok have historical value, architectural beauty, and regional culture, which can be used as a unique tourist activity experience for Muslim and foreign tourists visiting mosques in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Province. This research used a descriptive qualitative method to describe the potential for developing mosque-based halal tourism in Lombok. Primary data sources were obtained through interviews and observations at the Hubbul Wathan Mosque or the Mataram Islamic Center Mosque, a mosque that is used as a halal tourist destination. This research shows that the potential for developing mosque-based halal tourism is very large and has an innovative concept because it can increase the number of tourists and increase the variety of halal tourist destinations in Lombok. This research also explored important aspects of developing halal tourism, including accommodation facilities, halal food, and activities based on Islamic culture. Mosque-based halal tourism centers can offer a holistic experience for Muslim tourists, including visiting historic mosques, learning about local Islamic culture, and enjoying regional halal culinary specialties. The potential for developing mosque-based halal tourism in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Province, is an attractive opportunity to attract more Muslim tourists and foreign tourists to visit mosques in Lombok.

Abstract

Baitul Maal wa Tamwil (BMT), a financial cooperative organization, managed by people, can provide informal funding for households. However, the agency problem poses challenges for financial institutions operating in that micro sector, as financiers may struggle to monitor borrower characteristics, efforts, or profitability, leading to inefficiencies in the microcredit market. Further research is needed to determine the root causes of these problems. Empirical investigations show that the recommended methodology has not been effective, indicating a need for better methodological amendments and critical reevaluation. This study investigates factors affecting agency problems in microenterprise financing using a qualitative approach. The study involved 49 participants from eight selected BMTs, academics, and regulators, who were interviewed, observed, and analyzed for in-depth understanding. Data verification was done through triangulation, and reliability was ensured through transcript review, accurate codes, and continuous comparison with codes using NVivo. According to the study's findings, member behavior, incomplete financial analysis, lack of human resources, poor communication, Sharia compliance concerns, and lack of Islamic financial literation led to agency problem in BMT. The formation of this issue is predominantly due to poor management, inadequate levels of assistance, and incompetent management. The study reveals that issues in BMT microenterprise finance are primarily due to poor management, inadequate assistance, and incompetence. The problem is exacerbated by member behavior, incomplete financial analysis, lack of human resources, poor communication, Sharia compliance concerns, and lack of Islamic financial literacy. The study recommends adopting agency theory, increasing operational efficiency, strengthening member education, and managing compliance concerns. Practical suggestions include improving regulatory frameworks and training programs.

Abstract

The increasing concern regarding permissible food within Islamic communities has contributed to a recent surge in demand for Halal meat. To address this knowledge gap, the objective of this research is to examine the significance of factors influencing Halal certification and its effect on the pricing of Halal-compliant meat. The study employed a non-experimental descriptive research framework to explore the correlation between two primary uncontrolled variables: the price of Halal-compliant meat and Halal certification. Qualitative data were collected based on the demographic characteristics of meat store proprietors in selected municipalities in Lanao Del Sur and Iligan City. Based on the survey findings, it was determined that consumers in the selected research locale of the Lanao region are willing to pay an additional 10 to 50 pesos (PHP) for Halal-compliant meat compared to non-Halal options, depending on the prevailing market price. The respondents also evaluated the factors that influence halal compliance among proprietors of halal-compliant meat shops in Lanao del Sur. The variable representing accessibility to a Halal Certifying Body shows a coefficient of approximately 13.9605, with a statistically significant p-value of 0.028. This finding indicates a significant positive relationship between accessibility to halal certification and the pricing of Halal-compliant products. Economic planning that aligns with Halal principles is essential for advancing the Halal market by enhancing infrastructure and accreditation criteria, supporting small and medium enterprises, and increasing consumer awareness. By implementing these strategies, the Philippines can position itself as a significant player in the global Halal market, contributing to economic growth, job creation, and cultural diversity, particularly in the Lanao region.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse people's preferences and loyalty to using microfinance. The research utilised a descriptive qualitative method by conducting in-depth interviews with microbusinesses and stakeholders. The research population comprised microfinance users with a sample size of 186 people from various regions in Indonesia, along with 18 people from the management of Islamic microfinance institutions. The results of the research suggest that preferences and loyalty in using microfinance are mostly influenced by the speed of service, ease of procedures, and personal relationships. Apart from that, the belief that business owners are free from usury (riba) is also a determining factor in choosing Islamic microfinance despite the higher cost. The findings also show that micro-business owners receive social benefits in the form of mentoring to help develop their businesses. The results of this study provide a significant contribution to understanding the factors that influence people's preferences and their loyalty to using microfinance. The research results can provide a valuable basis for stakeholders to formulate financing policies that are more suitable to the needs and conditions of the community and micro businesses.
