Abstract

Settlements are not just a place to live, but are developing their functions as psychological, aesthetic, social status, and economic status needs. Therefore, to meet the needs of settlements, it is necessary to standardize the feasibility as a dwelling. This research is intended as a feasibility study for settlements in the Maesa Unima sub-district, South Tondano sub-district, Minahasa district. The method used is qualitative research. The sub-focus in this research are 1) location conditions, 2) infrastructure and facilities conditions, and 3) environmental improvement conditions through reforestation. Informants in this study were people living in Maesa Unima village, representatives of the village government, sub-district government, and district government using purposive sampling and snowball sampling methods. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, documentation, and interviews. The study results indicate that disaster vulnerability states that settlements in the Maesa Unima sub-district are quite low. The cleanliness of the residential environment is quite clean, but there is still garbage found on the streets. Residential infrastructure and facilities are still lacking in terms of inadequate road conditions, clogged drainage with garbage and soil, access to health services is easy to reach, worship infrastructure is not complete, and it is still difficult to get access to clean water. Regarding the importance of reforestation, public awareness is quite good. The community has carried out reforestation activities by planting their home gardens with vegetables, spices, and shade trees. In general, the residential area in Maesa Unima village has not fully met the standardization as a residence.

Abstract

The problem of this research is changes in forest land use and the level of damage to forest land due to gold mining activities in Bowone Village, South Central Tabukan District, Sangihe Islands Regency. The research method is quantitative with GIS-based spatial analysis using Supervised Classification and NDVI. The study results show that the mining area expanded from 11.83 hectares in 2015 from 2.35 hectares to 14.18 hectares in 2020, with an average expansion of 2.37 hectares per year or 45.53% per year. Heavy damage in the forest area of Bowone Village with an area of 131.2422 hectares (15%). Moderate damage with an area of 279,8941 hectares (35%), and light damage with an area of 435,7669 hectares (51.45). The condition of forest land cover in Bowone village is categorized as quite reasonable. However, it should be noted and anticipated that the current state of vegetation cover may decrease because 279.8941 hectares (33.05) have experienced a medium density category.

Abstract

The focus of this research is the migration factor of the Batak tribe in Manado City in terms of push factors, inhibiting factors, and pull factors. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Research informants are Batak people who live in Manado City with purposive sampling with adult criteria, have families with different occupations, and have lived for a long time. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used a qualitative approach with the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. The results of the study explain that the driving factors for the migration of the Batak tribe in the city of Manado were identified due to high competition in work while there are fewer job opportunities in the area of origin, job demands, carrying out the educational process outside the area, looking for work, joining family or friends, and the existence of a culture that states Parent's property does not belong to the child so it demands independence. The inhibiting factors are long-distance, high cost of living, and lack of relationships. While the pull factor is that they are more able to compete in business and work. Abstract

Serengan as one of the sub-districts with a majority Muslim population certainly respects and maintains the sanctity of the mosque building. The evidence is that the growth rate of mosque construction has increased, but an increase in the number is expected to result in an uneven distribution of the mosque. Because of this, the researchers studied this with the aim of a) knowing the distribution of mosques in the Serengan sub-district, Surakarta City, and b) applying the GIS function to analyze the distribution of mosques in the Serengan sub-district, Surakarta City. This research is a type of descriptive research with a quantitative approach with a distribution pattern analysis technique using Nearest Neighbor Analysis (nearest neighbor analysis). The results of this study found that the distribution of mosques, in general, has a uniform pattern (dispersed pattern) with an index of 18.52 out of a total of 51 mosques.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate land-use changes in the city of Manado against the occurrence of floods in 2021. Analysis of land-use changes was carried out using the overlay method on maps in 2013 and 2020 with the help of GIS. The runoff coefficient value is obtained based on the land use approach by using the runoff coefficient value table to determine the relationship between land use and runoff. The results of the study show that in the period 2013–2020 there have been changes in land use that disrupt hydrological functions. Forest land, mixed gardens, and shrubs decreased by 529.83 ha (3.48%), and conversely built-up land and open land increased by 124.14 ha (0.83%) which triggered an increase in surface runoff causing flooding. The increasing fulfillment of living needs along with population growth of 34,339 people (8.18%) in 7 years requires additional land for settlement, agriculture, and supporting infrastructure. Land-use change weakens hydrological functions and contributes to increased runoff. 17% of the rainfall in 2013 and 18% in 2020 will be a runoff. Rainfall in January 2014 and January 2021 was classified as very high (>500 mm). It can be stated that the flash floods that occurred in Manado in January 2014 and 2021 were triggered by land use and high rainfall factors.

Abstract

One measure of the impact of a new idea in geography education is how well the idea is put into everyday practice. Spatial thinking skills are actually not a new idea in geography education; Spatial analysis has long been one of its core traditions but the use of the term is new and has only just begun to be widely used. Spatial thinking skills are the use of spatial concepts such as distance, direction, and area; representational tools such as maps and graphs; along with appropriate thought processes, to conceptualize and solve problems. The aim of this article is to help teachers incorporate spatial thinking into their instruction through a concrete tool, the taxonomy of spatial thinking, applied to tried and true strategies of pedagogical questioning, both in text and in a classroom context. Our main premise is that students' spatial thinking can, and should, be facilitated by the careful design, selection, and use of questions.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to ascertain the connection between parental motivation and academic accomplishment. The research technique employed is a quantitative correlation method. strategies for gathering data include observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The t test and product moment correlation test are both used in the analysis technique. The results demonstrated that parental motivation had an impact on students' learning outcomes at SMA Negeri 3 Tana Toraja in geography as indicated by tcount = 31,854 > ttable 2,015, and the determinant coefficient was 85%, meaning that parental motivational variables accounted for 85% of the variance in students' learning outcomes and that the remaining 15% was influenced by other factors. Parental motivation is a strong predictor of student learning results. Parents' behavior is adequate to inspire youngsters to engage in learning activities

Abstract

The cultivation of coffee plants is closely related to many problems. These challenges are discussed from non-physical and physical aspects in this study, including farmer expertise, land area, capital, and income, as well as physical characteristics based on climate, soil conditions, and terrain. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data was obtained by interviewing informants, taking notes, and collecting secondary information on topography, rainfall, soil type, temperature, and altitude. The findings show that physical and non-physical factors, as well as skills, land area, capital, and income, have a significant impact on coffee growth. These physical elements include topography, soil, and climate. Farmer productivity is affected by the small size of the cultivated land.
