Abstract

Introduction: Halal certification is the process of obtaining a halal certificate through several stages to prove that the raw materials, production process and halal product assurance system of the company meet the established standards. Halal certification plays a role in realizing welfare, in accordance with Islamic teachings which require its followers to maintain the welfare of themselves and others. With halal certification, the guarantee of welfare for the community can be better maintained. The interest of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in participating in the halal certification program is an important factor in increasing competitiveness and consumer trust. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the interest of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Madiun City in managing halal certification. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and analysis of related documents. Based on data from the Madiun City Manpower, Cooperatives and Micro Small Enterprises Office, the number of MSME in Madiun City continues to increase every year. In 2020 there were 23,545 units, in 2021 there were 23,618 units, and in 2022 it had reached 23,672 units, and in 2023 it increased to 23,768 units. However, this is quite worrying, the number of MSME actors who are halal certified in June 2024 was only recorded at 6% or around 4,147 MSME actors from the total number of MSME in Madiun City that have been halal certified. The results of the study indicate that knowledge factors, certification costs, ease of process, and government support play a significant role in shaping the interest of business actors in participating in the halal certification program. In addition, awareness of the importance of halal certification for business sustainability is also a major driving factor. These findings are expected to be a reference for the government and stakeholders in designing policies that support the acceleration of halal certification for the interests of MSME.

This research examines the implementation of the circular economy concept through waste management at the Subulul Huda Kembangsawit Islamic Boarding School. As the number of students increases, this boarding school faces increasingly complex waste management challenges, which reach 150 kg every day. Since 2000, Islamic boarding schools have begun to implement the circular economy concept which was initiated by the caretaker council and Asatid as a solution to the problem of burning waste. This research uses qualitative methods, data is collected through interviews, observation and documentation. The research results show various waste management initiatives through seven main activities that follow the 5R concept (reduce, reuse, recycle, refurbish, and renew) including: managing organic waste into animal feed and fertilizer, managing inorganic waste into various creative products, conditioning waste water through IPAL, using used clothes through a thrifting program, reusing used building wood into furniture, using cloth sanitary napkins for female students, and using refillable liquid washing soap to reduce plastic packaging. Islamic boarding schools optimize circular economy activities through socialization and waste management training for students. This research contributes to the development of a circular economy-based waste management model that can create a clean, healthy, sustainable environment and increase financial independence in Islamic Education Institutions. The findings of this research can be a reference for the government in formulating environmental management policies that are integrated with Islamic values and provide practical guidance for other Islamic educational institutions in developing sustainable environmental management programs.

Abstract

The increasing use of skincare products among students requires awareness of the importance of the halalness of the products used. This study aims to understand the understanding, application, and impact of halal awareness in the use of skincare among students of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business IAIN Ponorogo. The research method used is qualitative with a field study approach. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation with students from various departments at FEBI. The results of this study indicate that although most students have understood the importance of product halalness, this awareness is still extrinsic, such as only relying on the halal logo without a deep understanding. The application of halal awareness includes the selection of halal ingredients, production processes that comply with sharia, product cleanliness, and halal certification for international products. As a result, students are more optical in choosing, buying, and using skincare products by considering aspects of halalness, safety, and product composition. It can be concluded that although halal awareness among students has begun to form, ongoing educational efforts are still needed to foster deeper intrinsic awareness, so that the principle of halalness is truly understood and applied consistently in daily consumption behavior.

Abstract

Introduction: This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the decision to purchase halal-labeled cosmetic products by alumni of the Darul Huda Mayak Islamic Boarding School, including halal awareness, religiosity, product safety and social environment. Research Methods: The research uses a quantitative approach with data collection through questionnaires from 96 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) method. Result: The findings indicate an R-square value of 0.708, suggesting that the variables in this model contribute 70.8% to the purchase decision of halal-labeled cosmetic products, while the remaining 29.2% is influenced by other variables not included in this study. The results further reveal that halal awareness and religiosity have a positive and significant effect on purchase decisions. Product safety has a positive but not significant effect, while the social environment has a negative and significant effect on the decision to purchase halal-labeled cosmetic products. These findings suggest that individual factors, such as awareness and religiosity, play a more dominant role in influencing purchase decisions than external factors. This study highlights the importance of strengthening personal values in promoting the consumption of halal products, especially among Muslim consumers.
