Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the discovery learning model on students' critical thinking skills in the IPAS (Science and Social Studies) subject, specifically on the topic of the States of Matter and Its Changes.The research method employed was a Quasi-Experimental design using the Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The study was conducted in the 4th grade of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Islamiyah Ciwaru, where students were divided into an experimental group (receiving the discovery learning treatment) and a control group. The object of this research was the students' critical thinking skills. Data collection techniques included essay tests in the form of pretest and posttest, as well as observation. Data analysis was performed quantitatively using the t-test to determine the significance of the difference in the mean scores of the pretest and posttest between the two groups. The results showed a significant increase in critical thinking skills in the experimental class. The mean posttest score for the experimental class (86.63) was substantially higher compared to the control class (63.27). Based on the t-test analysis, the difference in the pretest and posttest scores between the two groups was significant, with a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 (p 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that the implementation of the discovery learning model is effective and can improve the critical thinking skills of 4th-grade students on the topic of the States of Matter and Its Changes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the diversity of taro plants in the Sayal village area of the Saifi district in Sorong regency. The type and design of this study is descriptive exploratory, which aims to describe the diversity of taro plants. It was conducted in May 2022, in the Sayal village area of the Saifi district, South Sorong regency. The sample for this study was all taro plant varieties classified under theColocasia genus.  Data collection was carried out through the selection of study objects (STO) and the observation and scoring of taro morphological characters. Data were analyzed quantitatively using descriptive methods by calculating the similarity index to determine the level of similarity and varietal diversity. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: there are three types of taro plants in the Sayal village area of the Saifi district, Sorong Regency, from three villages, namely Komagaret village(Bogor taro), Baibet village (Belitung taro), and Sayal village(swamp taro).

Abstract

The study aims to determine the effect of tea dregs waste on the growth of pak choy plants. The study was conducted using quantitative methods and a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four tea dregs dosage treatments, namely 0 grams, 40 grams, 60 grams, and 80 grams per liter of nutrient water, each with three replications. The parameters observed included plant height, number of leaves, and fresh weight of the plant. Data were collected using an observation sheet, then analyzed using ANOVA at a significance level of 5 percent, followed by Duncan's test to determine significant differences between treatments. The results showed that the provision of tea dregs waste had a positive and significant effect on the growth of pak choy (p 0.05). The 80 gram treatment (P3) produced the best growth with an average plant height of 6.3 cm, number of leaves 7.1 strands, and fresh weight 7.4 grams. Increasing the dose of tea dregs increased the availability of macronutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, thereby supporting photosynthetic activity, vegetative tissue formation, and increasing plant biomass. Despite showing positive results, the use of tea dregs in this study served as a nutritional supplement and cannot fully replace commercial hydroponic nutrients.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the application of a maritime ethnoscience approach in science learning through a systematic literature review (SLR) of publications from 2017 to 2025. Of the 60 articles searched through Google Scholar and Scopus, 21 passed the selection process based on the inclusion criteria. The analysis shows that most studies focused on junior high school students, utilizing direct ethnoscience learning models, 4D development, and Problem-Based Learning (PBL). This review confirms that the application of maritime ethnoscience is effective in improving students' conceptual understanding, scientific literacy, critical thinking skills, and awareness of the marine environment. However, the limited concentration of research on a single educational level suggests opportunities for further study at the elementary, high school, and tertiary levels. These findings emphasize the urgency of integrating maritime local wisdom into science learning, not only to strengthen cultural identity but also to equip students with 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of using appropriate instructional models and learning media to improve students’ learning outcomes in ecosystem topics. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the Cooperative Learning model of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) type assisted by Ecopoly game media in improving the cognitive learning outcomes of elementary school students. This study employed a One Group Pretest–Posttest design involving 24 fifth-grade students, consisting of 13 male and 11 female students. The instruments used were a test consisting of 10 items (5 multiple-choice questions and 5 essay questions) and documentation. Data were analyzed using a normality test, paired sample t-test, and N-Gain calculation. The results showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (p 0.05), with an average N-Gain of 0.28, which falls into the low to moderate category. The highest achievement was found in the C1 (remembering) indicator, with an average posttest score of 86.95. These findings indicate that the TGT model assisted by Ecopoly media is effective in improving students’ cognitive learning outcomes, particularly in ecosystem material, in accordance with the cognitive developmental stage of elementary school-aged children.

Abstract

Ethnochemistry examines the relationship between cultural practices and modern chemical concepts, one of which is the preservation of salted fish by the people of Sibolga, North Sumatra. This study aims to analyze the local wisdom of salted fish preservation in relation to the concepts of osmotic pressure and food chemistry and its potential as a contextual chemistry learning. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a literature study design through searching and reviewing written sources, with the object of study being the salted fish preservation practices of the Sibolga people. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed using content analysis. The results of the study indicate that the process of salting and drying fish creates hypertonic conditions that trigger osmosis, reduce water content, inhibit the growth of microorganisms, and affect the texture and shelf life of the fish. The conclusion of the study shows that the salted fish preservation practices of the Sibolga people reflect the integration of local wisdom with modern chemical concepts and have the potential to be used as a source of local culture-based chemistry learning.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Children Learning in Science (CLIS) learning model on improving science learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SD Impres 45 Wayame. The research employed a quantitative descriptive approach with 25 students as research subjects. The research instruments consisted of pretest and posttest to measure cognitive achievement, as well as observation sheets to assess affective and psychomotor aspects. The results showed that prior to the implementation of the CLIS model, all students (100%) had not achieved the Minimum Mastery Criteria (MMC). After the application of the CLIS model, students’ learning outcomes improved significantly across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. The average posttest score reached 86.3, and all students achieved mastery learning. In addition, students’ affective and psychomotor skills were categorized as good to very good. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Children Learning in Science learning model is effective in improving science learning outcomes of fifth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Scientific process skills and critical thinking skills are two essential competencies that must be developed from the elementary school level, as they serve as the foundation for facing 21st-century challenges. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the guided inquiry learning model in improving students’ scientific process skills and critical thinking skills. The research method used in this study is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental approach. The study was conducted at SDN Sanolo with 30 fourth-grade students. The research design used was a one-group pretest-posttest design with one experimental class. Descriptive data analysis of scientific process skills and cognitive aspects of critical thinking skills used the N-Gain test; furthermore, the data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The analysis results show that the N-Gain score obtained was 0.71 for scientific process skills and 0.74 for critical thinking skills; these results fall into the high category, indicating that the implementation of the guided inquiry learning model is effective in improving scientific process skills and critical thinking skills. In addition, the paired sample t-test yielded a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 0.05, meaning that the guided inquiry learning model has a significant effect on students scientific process skills and critical thinking skills. Therefore, it can be concluded that the guided inquiry learning model is effective in enhancing students’ scientific process skills and critical thinking skills

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of students' creativity through the use of clipping media based on a contextual learning model in the social science (IPAS) subject on climate and its changes in fourth grade at SDN 27 Ampenan. The method used is classroom action research (CAR) on fourth-grade students totaling 22 students who were given treatment using clipping media based on the contextual learning model. The instruments used were observation instruments. Data collection techniques involved using tests. Data analysis was conducted by comparing students' initial and final behaviors. Based on the data analysis obtained at the pre-stage, the assessment scale was low, then at the post-stage, the students received a very good assessment scale. The results of the study indicate that the use of clipping media based on the contextual learning model can improve the creativity of fourth-grade students at SDN 27 Ampenan in the social science (IPAS) subject on climate and its changes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the challenges and opportunities of integrating ChatGPT into Biology learning through a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and literature review, and were analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that the use of ChatGPT as an instructional support tool has both positive and negative impacts. Students reported that it helped them understand complex biological concepts through simpler and more adaptive explanations. However, there is a tendency for students to become dependent on ChatGPT in completing assignments without engaging in independent analysis. Lecturers also highlighted concerns regarding academic integrity, such as plagiarism and the use of AI without proper attribution. Overall, ChatGPT has the potential to enhance learning if used purposefully and supported by adequate digital literacy. Its integration should be positioned as a pedagogical support tool rather than a substitute for teachers. Key challenges include technological dependency, academic ethical issues, and limited digital literacy. Continuous evaluation is necessary to maximize benefits and minimize risks in Biology education.
