Abstract

This study investigates the validity and reliability of a numeracy literacy instrument tailored for visually impaired students, focusing on solar system materials. The methodology involved distributing a questionnaire to three randomly selected experts who rated the instrument's content validity using the Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and the Content Validity Index (CVI). The results indicated that 9 out of 12 items were valid with CVI ? 0.68, while 3 items required revision. The reliability analysis, performed using Cronbach's Alpha, yielded a high value of 0.916, surpassing the critical threshold, thus confirming the instrument's consistency. These findings suggest that, with minor modifications, the instrument is both valid and reliable for assessing numeracy literacy among visually impaired students, highlighting its potential application in inclusive education settings.

Abstract

This study aims to map the development of chemical literacy in chemistry education and to identify future research directions toward Critical Chemical Literacy through a systematic literature review. The study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. From 100 open-access articles identified between 2015 and 2024, fifty passed the screening stage, and twenty met the inclusion criteria for analysis. Data were extracted based on metadata (year, educational level, topic, and research design), instructional strategies, chemical literacy assessment instruments, and reported findings. Descriptive and thematic analyses were conducted to identify trends, key results, and research gaps. The findings reveal that chemical literacy research remains concentrated in upper-secondary education, mainly focusing on acids–bases, equilibrium, and reaction rates. The most frequently applied instructional strategies are Context-Based Learning (CBL) and Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI), followed by PBL/STEAM, inquiry, argumentation, and ethnoscience integration. Assessment instruments such as A-BCLT, CELT, and IA-ATCL have been developed but still emphasize cognitive aspects over affective, social, and critical agency dimensions. The review concludes that future chemical literacy research should expand across educational levels, diversify investigated topics, and integrate digital technologies and global issues such as sustainability and climate change. Practically, the findings encourage teachers and policymakers to design curricula and assessments that position chemical literacy as a strategic 21st-century competence.

Abstract

This study aims to identify prospective science teachers' misconceptions on electricity using a three-tier multiple-choice test. The research method used is descriptive quantitative with 21 students of the Science Education study program at UIN Sunan Kudus as the subjects. This study was conducted at the Science Education Study Program at UIN Sunan Kudus in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The subjects consisted of 21 science students at UIN Sunan Kudus. The data collection technique used a Three-Tier Multiple Choice (TTMC) diagnostic test, a three-tier multiple choice instrument used to identify students' understanding and conceptual errors. This test consists of three levels: answers, reasons, and confidence levels in providing answers. The results showed that conceptual understanding and misconceptions were approximately 35% and 30%, respectively. Meanwhile, positive misconceptions and negative misconceptions were approximately 15–18%. This means that approximately 50% of respondents experienced misconceptions on the concepts of series and parallel circuits, electric charge, and electricity sources. Researchers used deeper identification through the second and third tiers to differentiate between misconceptions, positive misconceptions, negative misconceptions, not understanding the concept, not understanding the concept, guessing, and understanding the concept. These findings also confirm that the three-tier multiple-choice method is effective in identifying misconceptions among prospective science teachers.

Abstract

Understanding atmospheric disaster mitigation is essential for students from an early age, especially since Indonesia is highly vulnerable to extreme weather events such as storms and heavy rainfall. Nevertheless, this topic is often perceived as less engaging and tends to lack student participation. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model integrated with Interactive Monopoly in enhancing students’ understanding of atmospheric disaster mitigation and air pollution. The research adopted a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 30 eighth-grade students. Data were analyzed using the N-Gain test to measure improvement in learning outcomes and the Wilcoxon test to determine the significance of differences between pretest and posttest scores. The findings revealed an increase in the average score from 78.83 (pretest) to 98.5 (posttest). The mean N-Gain score reached 0.94, which falls into the high category. The Wilcoxon test produced a significance value of 0.000 (p 0.05), confirming a significant difference. During the learning activities, students showed active involvement, effective collaboration, and greater motivation. The integration of TGT with Interactive Monopoly provides an innovative and enjoyable learning approach, statistically proven to improve learning outcomes, engagement, and motivation in contextual science education.

Abstract

This study aims to identify student misconceptions related to the concept of metabolism in biochemistry. The method used is a descriptive quantitative approach with a three-tier diagnostic test approach: answer choices, reasons, and level of confidence. The research subjects were students who have taken or are currently taking biochemistry. The main instrument was a three-tier diagnostic test. Data were collected through in-person and online test distribution. The data analysis technique used a combination of the three tiers to determine misconception patterns. Then, the three questions with the highest level of misconceptions were analyzed to find the causes of misconceptions. The classification of answer combinations in the three-tier diagnostic test was determined based on the results of answers at all levels. The results indicated that misconceptions were still found in several important concepts, such as the role of oxygen in cellular respiration and the comparison of energy produced by macronutrients. Some students believed that oxygen plays a direct role in preventing glucose or that carbohydrates produce the most energy simply because they are the main energy source.

Abstract

This study aims to identify misconceptions among prospective science teachers regarding five basic science concepts, namely force and motion, energy and its transformations, heat and its transfer, simple electricity, and photosynthesis, using the Three-Tier Diagnostic Test instrument. The research method used is quantitative descriptive with a diagnostic survey conducted on 20 second-semester students from the Science Education program at IAIN Kudus. The results indicate a high level of misconceptions in all concepts, with the highest percentage found in the concepts of force and motion (56.0%) and energy and its transformations (57.1%). These findings suggest a lack of proper conceptual understanding among prospective teachers, which may affect the science learning process. The use of the Three-Tier Diagnostic Test has proven effective in distinguishing misconceptions from ignorance. Therefore, it is recommended to develop interactive learning methods and periodic evaluations to address misconceptions and improve the mastery of science concepts among prospective teachers.
