Abstract

The development of the digital sphere has brought significant changes in communication methods and the dissemination of information in various aspects, especially in the field of da'wah. This study aims to explain the influence of digital technology in increasing the Islamic understanding of students at IAIN Ternate, North Maluku. The research utilizes a qualitative approach with a literature review method. Primary data sources were obtained from various da'wah content on social media, such as content from Ustadz Abdus Somad, while secondary data was gathered from books, articles, and other references relevant to the research. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis techniques, utilizing Everett Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation theory. The results of this research show that the use of digital technology in da'wah can increase the creativity of preachers and serves as an effective medium for conveying da'wah messages, enabling those messages to be easily received by the audience—in this context, the students of IAIN Ternate

Abstract

The development of social media has changed the landscape of political communication, especially in shaping public opinion towards political actors ahead of regional head elections. This study aims to analyze public sentiment and the structure of communication networks towards Ridwan Kamil in the context of the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada on social media X (Twitter). The methods used include sentiment classification with the Naïve Bayes Classifier (NBC) algorithm and network analysis using the Social Network Analysis (SNA) approach through the Gephi software. A total of 2,000 tweets were analyzed after undergoing pre-processing stages, including cleaning, case folding, tokenizing, stopword removal, and stemming using TF-IDF. The classification results show that 45.6% of tweets are positive, 31.8% are neutral, and 22.6% are negative, with a model accuracy of 62.90% and a margin of error of ±2.56%. In terms of communication structure, the network was found to be fragmented and influenced by informal nodes such as @BungkusTukang, @NalarPolitik_, and @irenejuliency, while the @ridwankamil account played a strategic role as a liaison between clusters. The communication patterns formed followed the configuration of a personal star ego network and a bridge-type one. These findings indicate that digital political communication is dominated not only by official actors but also by non-institutional actors who significantly influence public discourse

Abstract

The digital revolution has influenced the pattern of Islamic da’wah communication, especially among Generation Z, who grew up in a social media ecosystem. Platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube have now become the main sources of religious information for high school students. This study aims to analyze effective educational da’wah communication strategies on social media to support Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation at three high schools in Blitar City: SMA 1, SMA 2, and SMA 3. The data analysis technique in this research follows the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data reduction was carried out by sorting and simplifying the results of observations, interviews, and documentation deemed relevant to the research focus. Next, data presentation was arranged systematically in a narrative form to make it easier for researchers to fully understand the problem’s context. The final stage involved inductive conclusion-drawing based on findings in the field to answer the research problem statements.   The study’s results show that social media can enhance students’ understanding, participation, and interest in PAI material when conveyed through visual, communicative, and contextual content. PAI teachers play a crucial role as facilitators in designing digital da’wah that is not only aesthetically appealing but also strengthens students’ Islamic character. This study recommends an integration of the PAI curriculum that is adaptive to digital technology as well as digital competency training for teachers as efforts to develop relevant and impactful da’wah strategies.

Abstract

This article aims to present data on the impact of online game addiction and its implications for communication and self-management among students at SMP Muhammadiyah 57 Medan. Online games are internet-based games that can be widely accessed by anyone, anywhere. Their presence is now familiar to both children and adults. Along with technological advancements, online games continue to introduce new and engaging features that attract many users. However, excessive use can lead to addiction, which has negative implications for users. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through interviews and documentation. The research subjects include five students and one guidance and counseling teacher at SMP Muhammadiyah 57 Medan. The results indicate that online game addiction affects several aspects of students’ lives. The impacts include physical health issues due to lack of activity, decreased learning motivation and academic achievement, changes in social interactions, psychological disturbances such as emotional instability, and even financial problems caused by spending money on gaming. Thus, online game addiction is not merely a matter of entertainment, but is closely related to students’ self-management—particularly in regulating their time, emotions, and academic responsibilities.

Abstract

The film Bida'ah is a Malaysian series that critically depicts female characters' resistance to injustice in the context of religion and patriarchal culture. A study of the film Bida'ah was conducted to provide an understanding of how visual media such as films can position women as subjects who have a voice, choices, and the courage to fight injustice. The problem statement in this study is how female characters in the film reflect resistance to patriarchal culture and religious understanding. This study aims to uncover the representation of female characters in the film Bida'ah as a form of criticism of patriarchal culture and religious understanding that limits women's roles. This study uses a qualitative approach with Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis method with three stages of analysis, namely denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings from this analysis are expected to make a significant contribution to the fields of patriarchy, cinema, and media studies in general. Patriarchal culture exploits this heresy as a tool to maintain power and social control over women, often disguised under the pretext of religious preaching and obedience. Thus, this study is not only a reflection on the courage of female characters in films, but also a call to strengthen the position of women in the public sphere and reinforce narratives of anti-patriarchal social change and gender equality.

Abstract

This research investigates shifts in communication styles among female students at Pondok Pesantren Nawwir Qulubana Wonosobo, driven by Korean dramas. The rising appeal of K-Dramas in Indonesia highlights a clash between pesantren principles of modesty and politeness and the emotive Korean ways of speaking. Employing a qualitative phenomenological method, the study delves into how these students balance Korean pop culture with pesantren traditions. Findings reveal that female students incorporate Korean terms like "omo," "ne," "eonni," and "gomawo" into everyday talk via reflective "Me" and impulsive "I" aspects. Yet, they uphold pesantren standards by thoughtfully adapting culture, mentally filtering Korean elements for suitable contexts. Such expressions are used only in casual settings, not formal ones. The pesantren's shared living space accelerates the adoption of Korean language. Ultimately, Korean media doesn't supplant pesantren values but acts as a means of personal expression, safeguarding Islamic identity and pesantren customs

Abstract

This research is motivated by the challenges of adapting introverted Generation Z in entering the world of work which demands intense social interaction, team collaboration, and professional adjustment. The purpose of this study is to understand the interpersonal communication dynamics of introverted Generation Z in the transition to the world of work in the city of Medan. This study used a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews with sixteen informants, including introverted individuals aged 18–25 years, two young psychologists, and one job accommodator, and analyzed using the Johari Window theory which divides self-awareness into open areas, blind areas, hidden areas, and unknown areas. The results of the study show that the interpersonal communication of introverted Generation Z develops gradually and reflectively; Their open area expands as confidence and work experience increase, blind areas narrow through feedback receipts, hidden areas decrease as trust in the work environment grows, and unknown areas shrink as their potential is revealed. They develop authentic communication strategies that balance introspection, expression, and social adaptation, without having to turn the personality into extroverted. In conclusion, the survival of introverted Generation Z in the world of work is adaptive and reflective, emphasizing the importance of social experiences, environmental support, and the development of self-awareness to build effective and professional communication.
