Abstract

This study discusses the political aspects of the media oligarchy in the 2019 presidential election and analysis of the linkages that will emerge in the 2024 presidential election. The analysis in this study also criticizes the function of the press and the function of political parties which are tools of the oligarchy to gain power. This study uses a qualitative approach with case study methods, data collection techniques using interviews, observation and documentation. Then perform analysis in the form of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the media oligarchy in this study was Hary Tanoesoedibjo through MNC Media and the Partai Persatuan Indonesia became an important part in winning the candidates for President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia. Historically, Hary Tanoesoedibjo's political support showed a change in the 2014 Presidential Election in favor of Prabowo Subianto - Hatta Rajasa, while during the 2019 Presidential Election Hary Tanoe supported Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin. On the basis of Hary Tanoesoedibjo's political support for the Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin pair, the Partai Persatuan Indonesia received the position of Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy. The position of media oligarchs in the 2024 election is likely to remain in a favorable situation, because Indonesia does not yet have regulations regarding restrictions on political activities in the media or content that is closely related to creating positive framing of certain parties and candidates.

Abstract

The hard-line Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) faced pressures from the government and public since the celebrated return of Rizieq Shihab, its so-called grand mufti, from exile in Saudi Arabia in November 2020. FPI elites had narrated the return of Shihab to lead the so-called “morale revolution,” which arguably alerted security officials due to its seemingly radical choice of words. This article will examine how the issues surrounding FPI after its leader’s return were handled as security problems, which enabled measures outside normal political procedures. Drawing on the theory of securitization, this writing argues that the government presented FPI as threats to ideology, public order, and health before moving to ban FPI as a mass organization. The method of causal process tracing (CPT) is employed to trace events leading up to FPI's dissolution as a causal process.

Abstract

The process of industrialization is often accepted as a perfect solution to alleviating the socio-economic problems of a region. Bali through the development of industry and tourism has succeeded in boosting the regional and national economy since its early development in 1980. But on the other hand, industrial dynamics also reflect the existence of production and reproduction of risk for the community such as the privatization of public space, desacralization, marginalization and exploitation of natural and human resources Starting from this problem, this research seeks to dissect how the Balinese people respond to the tourism industry climate through a movement platform. The ForBALI social movement as an effort to thwart the Benoa Bay reclamation program is a tangible manifestation that the Bali tourism industry is felt to have negative impact on the community. ForBALI resistance is a manifestation of the community’s counter hegemony to the oligarchs who try to continue to make efforts to perpetuate power under the pretext of economic growth and absorb labor. Interestingly, a counter discourse emerged from the pro-reclamation community of Benoa Bay departing from the view that development and being able to solve various social problems. The existence of these two groups for and against reclamation indicates that there is a dialectical process related to contestation in an effort to hegemony carried out by both parties.

DHF is a disease caused by dengue virus infection and is transmitted through the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The Karawang Regency Government, in this case the Health Office, has done various things in tackling this disease, but there are still some shortcomings, including low public awareness about the importance of preventing and overcoming dengue fever, especially in West Karawang District, which is represented by the Karawang Kulon Health Center and Nagasari Health Center. . The focus of this research began in 2019 – 2020 using descriptive methods and qualitative approaches. Data were taken from informants who were determined based on purposive sampling technique. Informants in this study, namely the Head of the Karawang Kulon Health Center and the Head of the Nagasari Health Center as well as one employee and one community member who felt the program from each Puskesmas. This study uses the theory of the policy implementation process according to Rondinelli with four variables that can affect the performance of a program, namely (1) environmental conditions; (2) inter-organizational relations; (3) organizational resources; (4) characteristics and capabilities of implementing agencies. Based on the facts in the field, it shows that the implementation of the DHF disease control program in West Karawang District is generally optimal, but there are several obstacles, especially organizational resource indicators.

Abstract

This research examines the perspective of ASEAN's counter-terrorism policy and ASEAN member states. Observing ASEAN's counter-terrorism policy instruments and the approach of ASEAN member states to these instruments. Based on the massive threats of terrorism that have occurred in Southeast Asia, especially since the 9/11 incident in 2001. Qualitative descriptive is used as a research method, using a literature study approach. The results showed that ASEAN adopted a law enforcement approach in countering terrorism. ASEAN for the first time issued a counter-terrorism policy instrument specifically through the ASEAN Declaration on Joint Action to Counter Terrorism 2001, after 9/11. Then followed by other instruments such as the ASEAN-US Joint Declaration for Cooperation to Combat International Terrorism 2002, Joint Declaration on Cooperation to Combat Terrorism 2003, ASEAN Convention on Counter Terrorism (ACCT) 2007, and joint declarations with external dialogue partner countries such as United States, European Union, India, Australia, Russia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Pakistan and Canada. However, ASEAN member countries do not have absolute similarities in the paradigm of counter-terrorism policies. Because ASEAN has the principle of non-interference. Based on these results, it can be concluded that various counter-terrorism policy instruments have been successfully established by ASEAN, which puts forward the perspective of law enforcement. However, there are differences in the paradigm of counter-terrorism by ASEAN member countries.

Abstract

Students as part of the intellectual group in Indonesia with their various movements have a very crucial role. In the three orders of power, students always show their existence in the national political process. In the old order era, students became one of the political forces with the presence of various organizations that actively participated in providing input to the current political system. Continuing with Suharto's rule, students with social movements were one of the reasons for the fall of the authoritarian regime that had been in power for a long time. The dynamics continue. After the change of government structure, even though the student movement of the reform order was often considered lost, it still showed its existence by providing input on government policies. Movements in this reform era often brought up quite new issues related to the environment or human rights. This study discusses the direction of the student movement with its various dynamics that occur in the vortex of the three orders of power. Social movement theory is used as an analytical tool in this research. This study also uses descriptive qualitative research methods and literature review techniques with primary data sources obtained through interviews with students who are actively involved in the student movement and secondary data whose sources are obtained from books, scientific articles, or mass media. The conclusion obtained from the results of this study is that the various movements launched by students are often moralist movements, although the realm of the movements often leads to the political realm. Students tend to move on the will and concerns of the people without trying to position themselves to achieve certain political power or position.

Abstract

Political marriage is a practice that can be traced to its history since the era of the Javanese Hindu kingdom. This practice continues in the current period and is carried out by political elites from local to national levels, from the executive to the judiciary. In the latest case, a political marriage was carried out by the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Anwar Usman and the younger brother of Indonesian President Jokowi, Idayati, on March 26, 2022. This research found that the political marriage showed similarities in patterns, motives, and goals with political marriages that had occurred before, namely to perpetuate the status quo, secure power, and seek allies. This descriptive qualitative research results align with the theory of power relations and knowledge presented by the philosopher Michel Foucault. That power in political marriages has an estuary to perpetuate these relations, strengthen, or isolate them from other power relations. However, in the discipline of Communication and Politics itself, research on political marriage is still rarely carried out in Indonesia. Therefore, this research is essential to fill this gap.
