Abstract

This study aims to analyze the performance of Indonesian exports to export destination countries in the international market. The subjects of this study are two Indonesian palm oil commodities: crude palm oil or CPO and processed palm oil or OPO (Other Palm Oil). There are four Indonesian palm oil markets in the international market, namely the Asian market, the European market, the African market, the American market, and the Australian market. The data used in this study is a time series from 1991 to 2016 and analyzed using the CMS (Constant Market Share) method. The CMS method explains the export growth performance in several components, which are the standard growth effect, the effect of product composition, the effect of market distribution, and the effect of competitiveness. The results showed that the performance of Indonesian CPO exports in the period 1991-2016 tended to decline compared to the growth of exports of all world products. Indonesian CPO is more competitive in the Asian market than the European market. The dynamics of Indonesian CPO exports in the African, American and Australian markets are quite good, but these three markets have not become the main destinations for Indonesian CPO exports. Indonesia's OPO export performance in the 1991-2016 period tended to increase compared to the growth in exports of all world products. Indonesian OPO in the Asian and African markets is more competitive than the European market. The dynamics of Indonesia's OPO exports on the American market and the Australian market are quite good, but these two markets have not become the main destinations for Indonesia's OPO market. Thus, Indonesia can maximize the performance of OPO exports when there is a rejection of Indonesian OPO in the international market. Keywords: CPO, constant market share (CMS), export, palm oil, performance

Abstract

Rice marketing in Indonesia has undergone significant changes, especially at the retailer level. Rice provided by retailers is increasingly diverse, both in terms of variation and quality. This study is aimed at analyzing the implicit value of various characteristics that are generally used as a reference when consumers buy rice at retailers. The study employed a hedonic price model, which was originally introduced by Lancaster. The data used are primary data from the survey of various types of rice sold by retailers in various locations in urban area of Bogor. The survey was conducted in March 2018. The results showed that the content of rice fragments or minute kernels and off-color rice can discount the price of rice. The estimation results of the model also showed that the length characteristic had a negative influence on the price of rice. Rice producers and traders have the opportunity to increase the price of rice they sold by reducing contents of the minute kernel and off-color rice that can be visually observed by consumers when making the choice of rice to buy. Keywords: consumer preference, implicit price, quality attributes, retail market

Abstract

SOE’s (BUMN) restructuring is one of the government's efforts to improve the performance and competitiveness of companies. However, this doesn’t necessarily occur due to differences in the challenges of change in each SOE. Therefore, to understand the impact of restructuring research on the performance evaluation of BUMN Perkebunan is needed. Data collection was carried out in May-November 2017 at Holding Perkebunan Office, Jakarta. The data used is secondary data in the form of company financial statements for the period 2012-2016. The data was processed by EVA methods to determine the economic value added to the company. The results showed that the highest and the only positive EVA was achieved before the restructuring, namely in 2012. After that, the EVA continued to decline and was at its lowest point in the third year after restructuring, namely in 2016. This decrease occurred due to the influence of components that support EVA, such as corporate income and expenditure, beta (ß), return market (rm), risk-free (rf), and the capital structure. To increase the EVA, the company has to make improvements by increasing the income, reducing the expenditure, reviewing the interest rate (rf), and keeping the proportion of capital structure. Keywords: Restructuring, BUMN Perkebunan, Performance Evaluation, EVA

Abstract

Improving the participation of smallholder farmers in horticultural value chains to benefit from the rapidly growing demand for high value agricultural products is one strategy for raising farm income. However, smallholder farmer adoption of high value horticultural crops in Indonesian is under-researched. To address this knowledge gap, this study aims to examines the characteristics of farmers who adopted and those who did not adopt a new horticultural crop with respect to the household (farmer), farm and institutional characteristics. The unique data from a 2013 survey of 960 Indonesian farmers on Java Island that produce a variety of agricultural products was analysed using independent-sample t-tests. Basic statistical analysis showed relatively low adoption rates (10%) of new horticultural crops amongst 960 selected Indonesian farmers with different characteristics. The result showed that current low rates of horticultural crop adoption are associated with a variety of factors, such as lower levels of education among farmers, resource constraints, lack of information on horticultural crop production and low participation in farmer groups. Keywords: horticultural crops, smallholder farmer adoption, household

Abstract

Global partnerships based on sustainability standards compiled by international NGOs are needed to achieve social, economic and environmentally sustainable development, as well as to deal with global uncertainty in trade and business of agricultural commodities, including coffee in Indonesia. This paper aims to compare the implementation of global partnership standards in coffee between Indonesia and other producer countries. The Study focused on sustainable standard-compliant in coffee such as 4C and Organic certification standards. Trade and sustainability map tools were described. The findings demonstrate that there were only 8 percent and 9 percent of the Indonesian coffee area certified by 4C and Organic, respectively. Indonesia placed at number fourth of 4C implementation in the worldwide after Brazil, Colombia, and Viet Nam. Indonesia is also placed at number fourth of Organic implementation in the worldwide after Mexico, Ethiopia, and Peru. To compete in the potential market, Indonesia’s commitment to implement sustainable standard-compliant in coffee is needed. Therefore, Indonesia has to increase the coverage of sustainability standards certified area to meet the global market demand. The government also should implement the right policies and programs to enhance the sustainability compliance of national coffee stakeholders. Keywords: coffee, global trade partnership, sustainability standards, global value chain

Abstract

The broiler is a highly demanded animal protein source for Indonesian people. Nowadays, primary and derived product demand for broiler chicken increases steadily. So it is necessary to increase broiler farm performance in order to meet the increased demand. One of the broiler farm centers which have fulfilled the rapid request of broiler chicken is located in Bogor, West Java. However, there was an important issue facing the broiler industry in Bogor, namely the decreased growth of broiler chicken population in Bogor. This indicates in the optimized business performance of broiler farm, impacting on business sustainability. Theoretically, business performance can be improved by stimulating farmer entrepreneurial competence. This study aimed to analyze factors affecting entrepreneurial competencies of farmers and determine the influence of farmer entrepreneurial competence on broiler farm performance in Bogor. This study used a convenience sampling method involving 120 contract farmers when running their business. Data were analyzed using descriptive method and multivariate analysis using structural equation modeling (SEM). The results showed that farmer entrepreneurial competencies were very dominant in broiler farm business performance. The entrepreneurial competence variable was mostly influenced by the managerial competence variable of farmers. The influential manifested variable to increase managerial competence was the farmer's ability in human resource management. Keywords: broiler farm, business performance, entrepreneurial competencies

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that influenced Pangasius production, analyze the economic scale of Pangasius culture business, and analyze the economic efficiency of Pangasius culture business using local feed in the Kota Gajah Subdistrict. The research location is determined intentionally (purposive). The number of samples taken was 41 people. The results showed that: (a) Significant factors affecting Pangasius production in the study area were pool area, initial manufacturer's feed (P1), advanced manufacturer's feed P2, advanced P3 feed, salted fish as local feed ingredients, and fine bran as local feed ingredients, while the number of seeds and non-permanent labor did not significantly influence the production of Pangasius. The business of Pangasius culture in the research area is not yet efficient, both technically and economically. (b) The value of the production elasticity of Pangasius culture in the study area is 1.151, which means the Production Elasticity (EP) is >1, meaning that the economic scale of production of Pangasius culture business is in the condition of increasing return to scale, specifically, the addition of production factors will cause additional output with a larger amount. (c) The use of production factors such as the area of ponds, seeds, factory feed 1, factory feed 2, and factory feed 3 is still possible to be increased so that the profits derived by Pangasius culture business in the study area are optimal. On the other hand, the salted fish variables, fine bran, and labor are not efficient, so the use of these factors of production must be reduced. Keywords: Pangasius, efficiency, production, economical, technical, and local feed

Abstract

There are several reasons why companies choose to issue bonds rather than borrowing from banks. Interest paid by companies to bond investors is often lower than the interest rate charged by the bank, but still at least bond issuance from the agricultural sub-sector and chooses to lend to the bank. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of bond characteristics, financial performance and macroeconomic return on corporate bonds in the agribusiness sector. This study uses a panel data regression method consisting of 12 bonds with the vulnerable time between 2014-2015 \quarterly. Based on the panel data model shows that the characteristics of bonds (yield to maturity, coupon, rank, and duration), financial performance (CFOS) and macroeconomics (IHSG) have a significant effect on the return of bonds. The Company should consider the amount of bond yield and coupon to be issued and pay attention to financial performance, especially cash flow and capital expenditure (capital expenditure). Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the influence of the characteristics of innovation, internal and external factors to the adoption of innovation and analyze the influence adoption of innovation on the performance of small micro enterprises (MSEs) processing of dried fish in the city of Bengkulu. The influence of the adoption of innovation and the factors that influence the performance of the analysis was done by using SEM (Structural Equation Model). The results showed that the innovation of dried fish processing in Bengkulu City, which is the use of para-para tool and packaging, has the characteristics of relative advantages, compatibility, complexity, trialability, and good observability. Innovation has a low level of complexity by a simpler way of usage than others. Individual characteristics of dried fish artisans have a significant positive effect on the adoption of innovation. The largest contributing variable that reflects individual characteristics is training. The business characteristic variable does not affect the adoption of innovation because of the increasing characteristics of the business requirements, which demands better innovation from the current ones. The environmental drive variable has no significant effect on the adoption of innovation. Although high competition variables reflect environmental variables, competitors from outside the region have their own market share. Government support variables have a significant positive effect on the adoption of innovation. The adoption of innovation has a significant effect on the performance of dried fish processing MSEs in Bengkulu City, where the para-para indicator has bigger contribution than the packaging and the productivity variable has a bigger effect than the sales in reflecting the performance variable of MSE’s dried fish processing in Bengkulu City.
