Abstract

This article is aimed at revealing an idea that gender can influence someone’s speaking competency. Speaking competency is an ability in speaking that includes the skills, knowledge, and attitudes of someone in performing speaking. Gender is psychosocial status associated with something that is done or performed by a person, which is reflected in the ways shown in the conduct or display something in the community in accordance with the and the underlying culture. This article used library research method, since the subject is an idea which is needed to be extended. Having gathered the data from some researches about the influence of gender on speaking competency, it is found that males, depending of his cultural background, tend to be more active than females toward the oral proficiency. However, regarding at speaking competency such us pronunciation and vocabulary, females are better than males.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the fantasy stories produced by students' work from various aspects, namely (1) the types of stories, (2) the power of fantasy, (3) the social scope contained in student fantasy stories. This study uses a qualitative descriptive design with the subject of fantasy stories by class VII students of SMP Negeri 3 Singaraja and the objects are types, fantasy power, and social scope of fantasy stories. data collection in this study using the documentation method. and analyzed by qualitative descriptive data analysis. The data that has been collected is processed inductively through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study were (1) the twenty-four works studied found that fourteen students' works raised the type of sliced ​​fantasy stories and ten total fantasy stories. Based on the types of fantasy stories, students are more likely to write sliced ​​fantasy story texts compared to fantasy story texts total, (2) students' fantasy power in fantasy stories related to characteristics, shapeshifting, supernatural beings, supernatural beings, characters and imagination in fantasy stories, (3) the social scope of fantasy stories revealed is in two social interaction fantasy stories, two social group fantasy stories, one social conflict fantasy story and one social norms and values ​​fantasy story

Abstract

This research aimed at investigating the class difference issues occurred among the oppressed class in Susanne Colllins’ The Hunger Games (2008) using Marxist literary criticism. Using Interactive Model Analisis, this qualitative research revealed two major class difference issues: exploitation and discrimination. The exploitation issue was identified in the form of children exploitation; meanwhile, the discrimination issue was identified in the form of socio-economic discrimination. Those issues appeared due to the three identified factors: poverty, false consciousness, and welfare struggle. Therefore, this research suggested the future research to dig and reveal the social class issue presented in the other novel of The Hunger Games Trilogy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' learning difficulties in learning Japanese in class XI Language SMA Negeri 2 Singaraja in terms of internal and external factors. The method used is descriptive quantitative method. The population in this study amounted to 68 students of class XI Language. The sample in this study was 59 students of class XI Language. The data collection instrument is a questionnaire. The results showed that there were learning difficulties experienced by students of class XI Language in terms of internal factors and external factors. On the internal factor of the motivational aspect with a percentage value of 61%, on the interest aspect with a percentage value of 56%, and on the attitude aspect with a percentage value of 57%, which means that the three values ​​are in the unfavorable criteria. The external factor is the learning difficulties of class XI language students in terms of the school environment with a percentage value of 59%, which means that the indicators on aspects of the school environment are in the unfavorable criteria. But there are no difficulties in aspects of the family environment. Therefore, it can be concluded that there are students' learning difficulties in learning Japanese in class XI Language in terms of internal factors and external factors.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the representation of liberal feminism in the anime Howl's Moving Castle directed by Miyazaki Hayao. This type of research was using descriptive qualitative analysis method. The theory of Roland Barthes' semiotics and liberal feminism ideology were used in this research. The data that has been collected will be analyzed with the concept of two orders of signification in semiotics that includes denotation (explicit), connotation (implicit), and myth. The results found in the research show that the main character Sophie Hatter reflects a sign of liberal feminism. Various signs of liberal feminism appear through Sophie Hatter's character designs which include self-confidence, toughness, and courage. In the context of characterization analysis about Sophie Hatter is shown through the stages of her life's adventure can form an identity to expressing herself freely. In the other hand, the myth in the anime Howl''s Moving Castle shows the contradiction between ideology of liberal feminism and Japanese society’s point of view towards the freedom of life for women. The connection between Sophie Hatter and liberal feminism refers to women's rights in the sense that they are equal as same as the men.

Abstract

With the decline in COVID-19 cases in Indonesia, the government devised a strategy to permit students to resume attending school and engage in face-to-face learning. Consequently, teachers had to make necessary adjustments to their teaching approaches in order to accommodate this onsite learning transitional phase. These adjustments create new problems that teachers need to be encountered. This study aims to identify problems encountered by English teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Bangli. This study conducted in qualitative method. The data collected by interview through structured interview guide. The findings showed that teachers encountered various problems such as poor internet connectivity when conducting online quizzes, students cheating in a test, and some problems with parents who dissatisfied with the students’ learning result.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the intrinsic element: it is the plot in the story "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" by Vera Southgate and Disney “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” film adaptation by employing a formalistic or formalism approach. Analyzing the plot in story and film is done by reading the text and understanding the plot structure that was adapted by the author. Story and film use particular terms in their plot selection. In analyzing the element, the author started by determining the segmentation of the story and find out the plot structures that were built. Based on the data generated and supported by the experts, there is a relationship between plot development and the existence of Disney's works among film enthusiasts. Disney's work became phenomenal due to the plot presented by the author. Both story and film are packed with neat stories and provide the readers with an overview and knowledge of life.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the form of the challenges of the character Harumi Enoki in the manga Akachan to Boku Volume 1 as a single parent. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a family sociology approach. Data collection was carried out using the observation method and note taking techniques and then analyzed using the structural functional theory proposed by Durkheim. The result of the study show that father as a single parents have two challenges. The first challenge came from the child who was raised by Harumi Enoki. The challenges from Harumi Enoki’s children are in the from of feelings of jealousy and fights. The second challenge faced by Harumi Enoki is the social view of society towards the way of parenting that is carried out by Harumi Enoki. Society in Japan consider that single parent, especially single father do not have to ability to raise and educate children.

Abstract

The 3D animation film History of the Mepasah Tradition in Trunyan Bangli Village tells about the journey of the four children in Dalem Solo who are looking for the source of the sweet smell of taru incense. On the way, the children of the king of Dalem Solo went through many obstacles and temptations so the children of the Dalem Solo had to stay. The first is Dewi Ayu Mas Meketeg living in the Batur area, the second is Ratu Sakti Sang Hyang Jero living in Kedisan village, the third is Ratu Sakti Gede Dukuh living in Abang village and the last one is, the first child of the king Dalem Solo Ratu Sakti Pancer Ring Jagat living in the Trunyan village. Ratu Sakti Pancer Ring Jagat married a goddess who guards the Tarumenyan tree, then they married and created a small kingdom. The purpose of this study is to implement a 3D animated film design for the history of the Mepasah Tradition in Trunyan Bangli Village so that people can describe the history of the Mepasah tradition. The design of the 3D animated film The History of the Mepasah Tradition in Trunyan Bangli Village uses the stages of manufacture from start to finish. The stages of making a film are divided into 3 (three) main stages, namely 1) Pre Production (Story Idea, Scriptwriting/Synopsis, Character Design, Supporting Image Design, and Storyboarding), 2) Production (Modelling, Texturing, Rigging, Skining, Animation, Lighting, and Rendering) 3) Post Production (Recording and Merging Process). The development of the 3D animated film The History of the Mepasah Tradition in Trunyan Bangli Village uses the MDLC (Multimedia Development Life Cycle) method which has 6 stages of Concept, Design, Material Collecting, Assembly, Testing, and Distribution.
