Abstract

This study focuses on Nouman Ali Khan's speech entitled “Ramadan: The Month of Hope '' with used of illocutionary approaches. The objective of this study is to explain and describe the various types of Illocutionary acts and their related functions. The research for this topic was conducted using a descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected using observation checklists then they were classified into some types of speech acts based on Yule’s theory. The results of this study show that there were four types of illocutionary acts; representative with cover five functions: Stating, informing, describing, clarifying & concluding. And followed by expressive with cover three functions: praising, hope & apologies and directives with cover four functions: advising, asking, telling, praying and the last one commissive with cover one function: guaranteeing. Additionally, (1) The representatives were the most frequent types of illocutionary act appeared in the speeches which have total 144 utterances (81,36%) with function: stating, informing, describing, clarifying & concluding. (2) The second highest type is expressive that have a total 17 utterances (9,61%) with functions: praising, hope & apologies. (3) The third, directives who have 15 total of utterances (8,47%) with function: advising, asking, telling, praying (5) The last one is commissive with 1 utterance (0,56%) with function: guaranteeing.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe kyouiku mama in the drama Poison Daughter, Holy Mother. The data source used in this research is the Japanese drama Poison Daughter, Holy Mother. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. The theory presented is the theory of mise en scene refers to the visual aspects that support the delivery of the depiction of kyouiku mama. Of the 12 data that show there is a depiction of Kyouiku mama, there is 1 scene situation that only highlights the setting and lighting elements. The results of this study show the depiction of kyouiku mama in the form of education carried out by mothers towards children such as attention to public opinion, caution in acting, conveying objective assessments, and expressing opposition to people who mock children.

Abstract

Fast Learners have a high intelligence in following and understanding learning. Therefore, the activity used in the class affects the attainment of learning of fast learners. This study aims to develop supplementary material for fast learners in ninth grade SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja in Buleleng District. Materials developed based on student needs. In addition, creative and innovative learning to improve English skills and 4C skills of students. The method used in this research is Design and Development by Richey & Klein (2007). This method has four stages of Analysis, Design, Development, and Evaluation. This study involves teacher and students as subjects. At the Analysis stage, the researcher use syllabus, and textbook as early reference in the process of creating supplementary material. At the design and development stage, the researcher develop blueprint and product. The Evaluation stage is as a quality measuring tool on the product that has been developed. Expert judgment and user review shows that the book is Good as a medium in learning. The supplementary material developed according to students’ need are expected to be able to give challenges and train the abilities of fast learners.

Abstract

This research aims to improve the mastery of Hiragana and Katakana letters in class XI IBB students at SMA Negeri 1 Singaraja with the help of the Memory Hint and Obenkyo application media. The subjects of this research were 33 students of class XI Language and Culture (IBB) at SMA Negeri 1 Singaraja. Data was collected through observation, tests and interviews. Research data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of this study indicate that learning assisted by the Memory Hint and Obenkyo applications can improve the mastery of Hiragana and Katakana letters. On the results of the Pre-test students obtained an average of 72.2 with a classical completeness of 51.5%. Cycle I obtained an average of 75.6 with a classical completeness of 72.7%. Cycle II get an average of 85.0 with 100% classical completeness. The response of class XI IBB students was classified as positive by showing an increase in learning outcomes and competence achievements. An increase in learning outcomes is indicated by an increase in the achievement score of the Minimum Completeness Criteria, an increase in competence as indicated by the mastery of Hiragana and Katakana letters, as well as an increase in student activity in participating in learning process. Based on these results it can be concluded that learning letters assisted by the Memory Hint and Obenkyo application media is able to improve the mastery of Hiragana and Katakana letters for class XI IBB students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the prose meaning and the total meaning contained in the poem “Fire and Ice” by Robert Frost. The writer relates other intrinsic elements (Symbol, Paradox, Denotation, and Connotation) to support and strengthen the meaning contained in the poem “Fire and Ice”. The intrinsic elements that used have also been analyzed. After the writer analyzes all these elements, the elements are interrelated to form a poem. Something that makes this poem interesting is that all the elements discussed are able to support the meaning of the poem and interconnected to form a unified meaning. By knowing these elements, we can capture the whole meaning of the poem.

Abstract

One of the goals of every football team is to score more goals against the opponent than the goal. This study aims to analyze the shooting and scoring patterns of the Denpasar Perseden team during the 2021 PSSI Bali League 3. The research method used in this study is descriptive quantitative by observing all Denpasar Perseden matches during Liga 3 PSSI Bali 2021 (8 matches), which will produce time intervals (15 minutes), type of play, number of passes before the occurrence of shoting and scoring, player actions before shooting and scoring, player positions in playing and playing zones. Based on the results of data processing and analysis, based on the time interval (15 minutes) the best shooting occurs in minutes 31-45 (+A.T) or as much as 20% and the best scoring occurs in minutes 16-30 or as much as 25%. From the type of play such as open play and set play, it is also calculated the number of shooting and scoring that has been successfully made by Perseden Denpasar. When open play is created 29 times (86%) shooting, and when set play is created 21 times (14%) shooting. The number of scoring is 19 (79%) during open play, and 5 (21%) from set play situations. Based on passing before shooting, the best shooting percentage of Denpasar Perseden occurs in three times (3 passes) passing before shooting as much as 22 times shooting or 15% of the total shooting, while the best scoring percentage of Denpasar Perseden occurs four times (4 passing) and eight times (8 passing) passing before scoring 4 times or 16% of the total scoring. Then at the beginning / action before shooting, the best shooting percentage of Denpasar Perseden occurs in Control + Shoot as much as 62 or 41% of the total shooting, while the best scoring percentage of Denpasar Perseden best Control + Dribble + Shoot is 9 or 37% of the total scoring. From the position of players, the winger is the most in shooting 51 times (34%) and the most scoring is created by the winger, namely 12 goals (50%). Then in the best zone of shooting occurs Central Advenced 51 times or 34% shooting and the most scoring occurs Central Ultra Offensive, which is 11 times or 45%. This data has implications for the evaluation of the tactical training program and also on one of the guidelines in compiling the Denpasar Perseden training program for the next competition

Abstract

Generally, problems in self-confidence are experienced by everyone, especially in communication. This study aims to determine the factors of students’ confidence in communicating by using English, especially at SMK NEGERI 3 Singaraja, in the class X DKV 3. This study was designed by using a qualitative descriptive research method. The research subjects were students of SMK Negeri 3 Singaraja, especially in class X DKV 3 using observation instruments for all students and interviews for 20 students. The results of this study indicate that students need to study English more actively, had a dictionary, took an English course and had someone to talk to during practice. In addition, students' perceptions also said that the support of friends and the environment greatly influenced their self-confidence and the relationship between confidence and communication was very closely because when students could communicate by using English well and fluently, then their self-confidence developed and be better.

Abstract

The Central Statistics Agency of Indonesia recorded that the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in 2022 reached 5.47 million visits. It means that tourism sector in Indonesia must be ready to accommodate tourists visiting the country by providing excellent service. Communication promotes positive engagement between the hospitality industry staffs and the guests. However, many hotel staffs cannot use English effectively due to many factors, such as lack of vocabulary, improper grammar, fears of mistakes and anxiety. Therefore, speaking skill enhancement is needed through effective teaching strategies. This study aimed at exploring and identifying effective teaching strategies to improve the staffs’ speaking skill. The study used literature review method, which summarizes and evaluates a body of writings about a specific topic (Knopf, 2006). Based on the literature review, there are five main effective strategies in teaching speaking skill for hotel staffs; they are role play, discussion, picture describing, storytelling and interview. It is suggested that teachers can use these strategies to maximize hotel staffs’ speaking skill.

Abstract

This study analyzes the Attitude of expressive illocutionary acts found in the movie script of "Persuasion." Data used in this study could be considered qualitative data, and it was analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. Explaining the sentence in the data allows a precise analysis using the theory from Searle (1979) and Halliday and Hasan (1985). The findings show that there are 13 Sentences of expressive illocutionary acts. The result shows that the most dominant type used by the main character is expressive of Attitude, which contains nine utterances. The character in The 'Persuasion' movie mostly expressed feelings about disagreement, so they most used an expressive attitude. There should be more research on the expressive illocutionary act with different theories and methods. Hopefully, this research can be helpful in education and help further research.

Abstract

This study was aimed at investigating reflective thinking teachers during remote learning in SMP Negeri 2 Tejakula and the problems that they encounter in which it was viewed from the English teachers’ perceptions. Descriptive Quantitative Study was used as a research design of this study which involved the English teachers of SMP Negeri 2 Tejakula as the participants. The data were obtained through survey and interview. English teachers’ self-reflected questionnaire by Choy et al (2017) was adapted in conducting the survey. The results of this study showed that the English teachers show a positive response toward the questionnaire in which it was also found that there were four skills used in the reflective thinking during remote learning in SMP Negeri 2 Tejakula. Then, this research found that the teachers’ problem was due to the low insight of the teachers in using online application where the students gave bad comments because the teachers ignored students’ feedback in the application
