Abstract

Bioplastics is one of solutions of environmental problems. Fairly high starch content allows peel of cassava can be utilized as a plastic film that can be described biodegradation by microorganisms naturally back into compounds that are environmentally friendly. This study aimed to determine the effect of chitosan on the characteristics of bioplastics made from cassava starch peel. This research was conducted in three phases, namely cassava starch manufacture peel, manufacture of bioplastics from starch cassava peel and analysis stages that include tensile strength test (Tensile Srength), swelling test, biodegradation test and a test of functional groups using FTIR. The results showed that chitosan is able to improve the mechanical properties of bioplastics and water resistance properties. This is indicated by the value of 6.67 MPa tensile strenght and swelling test by 60% generated by the composition of peel cassava starch 12 grams, chitosan 3% and 4 ml glycerol plasticizer. While microbial biodegradation test by using EM4 shows that bioplastics can be degraded for 6 days. Results of the analysis indicate functional groups bioplastics from cassava starch showed a pattern peel absorption at wave number region similar to cassava starch peel where there is CH, C = C and OH

Abstract

Gayo Lues has an operational micro-hydro power plant in Tingkem Village, Blangjerango District, which provides lighting, piping, and electricity to the residents of Tingkem Village. Among the objectives of this study were to determine and investigate the potential of the Aih Tilis river, the discharge of the carrier channel, the volume of the tranquilizer tank, the flow of water through the pipe, and the amount of electricity generated. Transport lines, troughs, and tubing are measured and calculated in this process. The discharge obtained on the carrier line is 0.5304816 m3/s, which is equal to 5.3 liters per second. There are 72.4605 cubic meters of dry trough volume and 65.556 cubic meters of wet section volume in this experiment. When the micro-hydroelectric power plant in Tingkem is operating at full capacity, it generates 79.631 kW of electricity with a turbine efficiency value of 70 percent and a generator efficiency value of 75 percent.

Abstract

This study aims to isolate the alcoholic patchouli from patchouli oil using a vacuum distillation method using vacuum distillation unit. The isolation process is conducted by varying vacuum pressure, distillate volume, and remaining residue volume. The vacuum pressure variated at 1, 1,5, 2, and 2,5 mmHg, distillate volume by 70, 80, and 90 ml, while remaining residue volume at 10, 20, and 30 ml. Samples were analyzed using GC-MS to determine the concentration of patchouli alcohol and analyzed using a pycnometer to determine its density. The results showed that the use of low pressure affected separating patchouli alcohol from patchouli oil. The highest patchouli alcohol content from the isolation results is 100% obtained in 10 ml of remaining residue volume at a pressure of 2 mmHg. This vacuum distillation method is quite effective.

Abstract

The data of electrical energy is  periodically and continuously (in real time) necessary to examine certain quantities  such  voltage, real power current, reactive power, phases differences, frequency and harmonic phase both single and three phases. The application of telemetry system on electric power system measurement and monitoring of energy, especially electrical remote laboratory scale, is used to establish an integrated measurement system which has specific characteristics such as; real time reading. demand reading, reading energy and power analysis  to be used  not only as a laboratory instrument but can also to perform measurements of the electrical energy industry and other utilization of installations. This study is aimed to establish an integrated system of electrical energy measurement and it can be monitored in two or more remote areas. In the current concept, sensors (mobile sensing current) are installed in the target of  measurement and monitoring area while the input voltage is obtained directly from the power source terminal. As the results, its were found that a voltage difference between cubicles out going and industrial process control laboratory is about 0.053% of RS voltage, 0.24% of ST voltage, and 0.053% RT voltage, whereas the difference in current increase due to the voltage drop is about 0.23% of R phase, 0.031% of S phase, and 0.031% of T phase current, in the range of radio link of 100 m

Abstract

In the transmission process of signal from the transmitter to the receiver, the noise will be induced to the signal which will deteriorate the overall quality of the information signal in the receiver. To improve the signal to noise ratio, hence the noise must be suppressed. In this paper, digital filter will be implemented to reduce the noise by using Finite Impulse Response (FIR) and Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) methods. The input signal will be fed to FIR or IIR filter, and the filter algorithm will be designed according to the different filter order. The noise level at filter output will be examined according to different filter order for each FIR and IIR. The simulation result shows that IIR filter is better than FIR filter in reducing the noise. The best result for IIR filter is for filter order of 12 which suppressed the noise to -92 dB, compared to FIR filter which only reduced the noise to -40 dB

Abstract

Vegetable oils obtained from nuts and seeds have superiority in terms of food. They have a distinctive taste and healthy nutritional content because they contain unsaturated fatty acids, carotenoids, and flavonoids. This study aims to improve the yield of pumpkin seed oil and compare it with SNI (3741-1995) concerning cooking oil. The extraction was carried out using the soxhlet method with a temperature of 68-70ºC using hexane as a solvent and a ratio of the solvent ratio (1: 6); (1: 8); (1:10); (1:12); (1:14) (w / v) and the amount of circulation used 15; 20; 25; 30; 35. After the extraction process is evaporated to evaporate the solvent and obtain concentrate at 70ºC. The results showed a yield of 56.40%. The oil produced has physical characteristics including Specific Gravity: 0.97 gr/ml, Water Content: 6%, Boiling Point: 210ºC, Acid Number 6 mg NaOH / g, Peroxide Number: 50 meq /O2 kg, Weaving Numbers 308.55 mg KOH / g, as well as the chemical characteristics of the test results: Based on chromatographic analysis it is known that the composition of fatty acids in pumpkin seed oil is dominated by Palmitic Acid (C: 16) of 16.6736; Linoleic Acid (C: 18-2) of 53.5392; Stearic Acid (C: 18) 29.7872%. But this pumpkin seed oil has not fulfilled SNI especially cooking oil (3741-1995).

Abstract

Edible coating is film that can coat and safe food for consumption by means of wrapping, dripping and spraying to provide containment selective displacement of gas, water vapor and solute. This research was conducted to produce an edible coating of stach and applied to tomatoes to get the characteristic of edible coating during storage and the amount of addition of glycerol, cmc, stearic acid and the quality of the product, in order to provides an alternative environmentally friendly packaging. Manufacturing of edible coating was done by dissolving 2 grams of tapioca in 100 ml of distilled water and adding glycerol (10; 15; 20 ml), cmc (1; 2; 3 grams) and stearic acid (0,25; 0,5; 0,75 grams) accordance with the treatment of Respone Surface Methodology. The analysis results of tomatoes in the best edible coating during storage for 1 week cause a weight loss of 11,6448 gr, total acid 3,06102 ml/gr, vitamin C 0,32775 mg/g, and pH value 4,63517. While to analysis results of tomatoes in the best edible coating during storage for 2 week cause a weight loss 9,13745 gr, total acid 0,06798 ml/gr, vitamin C 0,85845 mg/g, and pH value 6,32274

Abstract

This research is aimed to gain  the appropriate turning rapidity to the quality of peeling product. It was focused on observing the capability of areca nut peeling machine to the speed and time of peeling. The research method was started from making the areca nut peeling machine and modifying the distance of cutting drum. The distance  or space of the cutting drum was varied in the same turning. The first rapidity  was arranged in 670 rpm , the guide drum in 1014 for the first peeling and 1627 for the second peeling. The result showed that the time of peeling process was 2kg/49 second.

Abstract

Environmental problems caused by petroleum-derived plastic waste has become an important issue because it is difficult to degrade the environment. Therefore, attempts have been made to speed up the process of degradation of the polymer material is to replace synthetic polymers with natural poimer. Starch is a natural polymer that can be used for the production of material that is easily degraded, the raw material is abundant, but has a weakness in its mechanical properties. To improve the mechanical strength of starch, a reinforcing material in the form of inorganic material is usually added in a polymer matrix. In addition to improving shelf life in a plastic made from natural polymers required additional antimicrobial. Therefore, bioplastics prepared by mixing cassava starch as a matrix, glycerol as a plasticizer, ZnO as an amplifier, and clove oil as an antimicrobial. The optimum conditions to produce bioplastics with the highest tensile strength of 23.40 kgf /mm2 given by the addition of 0.8% of ZnO and 0.4 ml clove oil. While the highest percent elongation on the addition of ZnO 1% and 0.4 ml clove oil which is 346.00%. Based on the test results of water resistance and biodegradability, clove oil shown to inhibit the growth of microorganisms bioplastics and bioplastic IR spectra do not show any new functional group.

Abstract

POFA and fly ash are wates in the palm oil industry and electric generating power plant. This study aims to reduce the volume of these wastes in the field by grinding and being a substitute for cement in mortar mixtures. POFA and fly ash were each mada into a mortar with a percentage of 20% of the cement used. Before being used, each waste was first grinding 1000 cycles, 2000 cycles, 3000 cycles using a Los Angeles machine and also used POFA and fly ash 100% passing sieve #No.16 and 100% passing sieve #No.200. Furthermore, each waste is made of 50 mm x 50 mm x 50 mm cube specimens and wiill be tested for compressive strength at age of 1, 3, 7, and 28 days and also being tested for their porosity. The results showed that passing sieve #No.16 it means fly ash didn’t grinding reached a compressive strength of mortar about 58,22 MPa and its pororsity was 10,98%. The compressive strength of the mortar exceeds the control mortar by 36,68 MPa in 28 days. So it cn be concluded that the mortar with passing sieve #No.16 of fly ash can reduce the pororsity of the mortar so that it improves the compressive strength of the mortar.
