Reading is an important skill in learning English but sometimes students have some problems with the reading process because of their limited vocabulary knowledge, poor comprehension, and difficulty to recall information after reading. The teachers need to help the students to resolve these problems by creating learning media in teaching reading. Therefore, in this research, the researcher offered an alternative media which is a question cube media to teach students. The purpose of this research is to find out whether or not Question Cube is an effective medium to increase students' reading comprehension. In this research, the researcher used a literature review research method by collecting 30 articles taken from Google Scholar and ResearchGate. Abstract

In elementary institutions around the globe, including in Indonesia, computer-assisted language learning (CALL) has gained popularity. Typically, the CALL procedure consists of four stages: preparation, instruction, practice, and evaluation. Preparation includes setting learning goals and choosing software and multimedia. During teaching, teachers present software and multimedia tools and lead pupils. Students improve their language skills individually using software and multimedia materials. Assessing pupils' language skills is the last step. However, successful implementation of CALL in Indonesian elementary schools requires resolving several obstacles, such as the scarcity of trained instructors and the need to adapt CALL to the context of Indonesia. In addition, it is crucial to balance the use of technology with traditional teaching techniques, such as group activities and face-to-face interactions. The results show that (1) language learning results based on AI relates on computer science mastery level, (2) ICT literacy relates on capabilities in operating CALL (3) Artificial Intelligence viewed a tool to teach language learning, and (4) language learning should create learning environment based on community. CALL could be a potent instrument for enhancing language proficiency and preparing Indonesian students for the challenges of the digital era if it receives adequate funding and support.

Abstract

This research is an applied linguistic research in the translation field. The source chosen is an online comic or webtoon titled Sarimin by Nagaterbang. This research chooses Sarimin as the research subject because its theme heavily relies on Indonesian mysticism, making emphasis on several culturally specific items in the form of words, phrases, and sentences that are very hard to translate into English. There are three things studied in this research: (1) cultural terms in Sarimin, (2) translation techniques for the cultural terms, and (3) the translation ideology used in translating the cultural terms. The unit data are words, phrases, and sentences. The data are taken from the first season. The theoretical framework used in this analysis is the translation techniques from Molina and Albir (2002), Newmark's specific cultural terms (1988), and strategies of translation by Venuti (2001). From this study, it is found that the categories of cultural terms that appear most often are social culture with 39% with organizations, customs, and ideas items follows, not too far, with 35%. The study also found that the translator relied on adaptation which takes 41% of the items, and prioritizes domestication over foreignization. The analysis of the translation techniques reveals that many cultural elements cannot be translated as is and the chosen method may vary based on the context of the story. The findings highlight the need for translation guidelines to balance these two ideologies to preserve cultural richness while making the translation relatable to the target audience.

Abstract

This research uses qualitative method and revolves around Halliday’s ideational meta-function and Kress & Van Leeuwen’s representational meaning theory in order to analyze the object of this research. This research is limited only to analyzing the linguistic and visual aspect of the selected commercial to interpret their meanings with multimodal study. The ideational analysis of the selected commercial entitled “Wonderful Colors of Wonda” found that mental process was mostly employed in the video’s utterance. According to ideational meta-function analysis, the commercial video intends to deliver a message about how people unfairly perceive others who are different from them and a possibility of a better society in the future where people would not discriminate others. Within the representational analysis, through conceptual and narrative meaning analysis, the researcher found that the commercial video contains not only a selling-point of a product, but also an implied meaning about social diversity that often happens within our society and who are involved in it. This research is a significant contribution in multimodal discourse analysis on advertisement, as it can prove how important linguistic aspects are when it comes to delivering message through something with multimodality such as commercial video.
