Abstract

This article analyzes controversial communication practices by several public figures in 2025, positioning Islamic communication ethics and religious moderation as the primary normative framework. The study employs critical discourse analysis combined with a literature review on Islamic communication ethics and religious moderation. Data are analyzed through public figures’ verbal statements, non-verbal expressions, and netizens’ responses as circulated in mass media and social media.  The findings reveal that controversial communication by public figures, particularly legislative officials, is widely perceived as inconsistent with core principles of Islamic communication ethics, including qaulan ma'rufan, qaulan sadidan, and qaulan layyinan. This study emphasizes that internalizing Islamic communication ethics and religious moderation is essential for public communication to maintain social order, strengthen public trust, and prevent social unrest and potential disintegration.

Abstract

This study examines the articulation of prophetic communication values in interfaith dialogue as performed by Habib Jafar in the podcast Login, Season 2, Episode 6, titled “Pemuka Agama Jadi Satu di Lebaran” (“Religious Leaders Unite During Eid”). Employing qualitative content analysis, this research analyzes podcast transcripts alongside visual and non-verbal communication elements. The findings reveal that Habib Jafar operationalizes three core dimensions of prophetic communication, namely humanization, liberation, and transcendence. Humanization is enacted through empathetic engagement and contextual understanding of others’ lived experiences, while liberation is expressed by encouraging critical and independent thinking. Transcendence emerges through invitations to spiritual reflection and the cultivation of a deeper relationship with God. Through these communicative strategies, Habib Jafar conveys inclusive da‘wah messages that facilitate interfaith dialogue and foster mutual understanding across religious communities. This study contributes to communication and religious studies by demonstrating how prophetic communication can be strategically embedded in digital media to bridge interreligious divides and promote universal ethical values in a rapidly evolving information environment.

Abstract

This research explores how university leaders employ transformational styles of Islamic leadership and migration ethics, and how such leaders in Islamic higher education navigate crisis. Using qualitative methods and a case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with four strategic leaders from private universities in the Greater Jakarta Area. The findings demonstrate the emergence of "Digital Maslahah", a conception in which technology is used (though not only for operational efficiency) to sustain the ummah. In theory, this study proposes a new communication leadership theory that seeks to resolve the paradox of high-tech "digital infrastructure" and high-touch "humanist touch". This study proposes that the ability to convert and actualize the spiritual dimension of a leader to Miranda's adaptive digital policies is the essential core of Islamic higher education.

Abstract

This study examines the role of inclusive communication practices at Masjid Syuhada Yogyakarta in fostering inter-organizational religious collaboration amid increasing exclusivity in mosque governance in Indonesia. While many mosques are institutionally affiliated with specific religious organizations or political interests, this study adopts a qualitative case study approach to explore an alternative communicative model. Drawing on Jürgen Habermas’s concepts of the religious public sphere and communicative action, the analysis evaluates how organizational narratives and practices articulate validity claims of truth, appropriateness, and sincerity. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The findings reveal that Masjid Syuhada sustains an inclusive communicative environment by maintaining a non-partisan stance, cultivating dialogical spaces resembling an ideal speech situation, and institutionalizing communicative neutrality across diverse Islamic organizations. This positioning enables the mosque to function as a living religious public sphere that facilitates collaboration beyond ideological boundaries.
