Abstract

The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (1945) remain pivotal to debates on warfare ethics and international humanitarian law (IHL). Despite extensive historical analysis, gaps persist in reconciling these events with contemporary IHL frameworks and emerging technologies. This study evaluates the bombings’ compliance with IHL principles—distinction, proportionality, and prohibition of unnecessary suffering—and explores their relevance to modern conflict. A qualitative-descriptive, juridical-normative approach analyzes legal documents, historical archives, and hibakusha testimonies. The bombings violated core IHL principles, causing indiscriminate civilian harm (70,000–140,000 deaths) and prolonged suffering (radiation effects, hibakusha accounts). Legal justifications based on "military necessity" fail under proportionality tests. The study underscores the urgency of adapting IHL to address autonomous weapons and cyber warfare, while reinforcing nuclear disarmament efforts. It calls for policy reforms to prioritize civilian protection in 21st-century warfare.

Abstract

This study evaluates the financial feasibility of expanding MCG Coffee by opening a new branch in Tebet, Jakarta. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research combines qualitative strategic analysis—including SWOT and Porter’s Five Forces—with quantitative financial modeling tools such as Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Payback Period (PP). Data collection involved both primary sources (surveys and interviews) and secondary sources (financial records and industry benchmarks). The findings reveal that the proposed expansion is financially viable, with a positive NPV of Rp 145,349,219, an IRR of 25%, and a payback period of 4 years and 7 months. Sensitivity analysis indicates that revenue fluctuations have the highest impact on investment outcomes. The study also presents a detailed implementation roadmap to guide the setup of the new branch, emphasizing community engagement and diversified revenue streams. These results provide actionable insights for SME coffee shop owners seeking sustainable growth through strategic expansion.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze PT Unilever Indonesia's social responsibility (CSR) strategy. The sample from this study is Pepsodent through the National Dental Activity Month (BKGN) activity. The method used in this study is a literature study by analyzing previous journal articles and company reports. The results of the analysis show that Pepsodent's CSR program through National Dental Health Month can create shared value for society and businesses by improving stakeholder relationships, promoting long-term benefits for businesses, and improving business reputation. This program can also increase public awareness about dental and oral health, as well as help restore dental and oral care habits. However, the expansion of the scope of this program area still needs to be done to other cities and remote areas in Indonesia so that it can increase the effectiveness of this CSR program in creating shared value for the community and businesses.

Abstract

Public services at the village level play a crucial role in government implementation and significantly affect community satisfaction. However, gaps often exist between public expectations and their perceptions of service quality. This study aims to measure the quality of public services in Sidomulya Village, Astanajapura District, using the Service Quality (Servqual) method to identify the gap between expectations and perceptions, and to determine priority areas for improvement using Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA). Data were collected via questionnaires distributed to 30 respondents and analyzed through validity and reliability tests, followed by Servqual gap analysis and IPA quadrant mapping. The Servqual analysis revealed negative gaps across all dimensions of service quality—Tangibles (-0.39), Reliability (-0.97), Responsiveness (-0.53), Assurance (-0.40), and Empathy (-0.20)—with an average gap of -0.83, indicating that service quality does not meet public expectations. The largest gap was found in the Reliability dimension, highlighting concerns about service dependability. IPA results showed that aspects P1 and P9, related to administrative services and targeted social assistance, respectively, fall into the Top Priority quadrant, signaling urgent need for improvement. These findings suggest that the village government should prioritize enhancing these key service areas to better align with community expectations, thereby increasing public trust and satisfaction. This integrated application of Servqual and IPA provides a strategic framework for evaluating and improving village-level public services.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the Gram-positive bacterial infectious agent Mycobacterium tuberculosis which is an obligatory aerobic which generally attacks the lung organs in humans. This disease is transmitted by patients who spread through nuclei droplets that come out when the patient coughs or sneezes. Many new cases of tuberculosis are associated with malnutrition. The tendency to lose weight itself is a result of the symptoms of anorexia experienced by tuberculosis patients. Meanwhile, the inability to gain weight during therapy will be closely related to the risk of disease severity. The study aims to analyze the relationship between weight changes in patients with bacteriologically confirmed pulmonary tuberculosis and the recurrence of the disease at the Lampaseh Health Center from 2021 to 2024. This study uses a descriptive observational method with a cross sectional approach. The results show based on weight, the majority experienced weight gain, which amounted to 12 people (86%). Bacteriological confirmed pulmonary TB patients are equal in number between men and women, namely 7 people (50%) each. Age group of people with pulmonary TB. confirmed bacteriological highest in the age group of 40-59 years as many as 7 people (50%). Of all pulmonary TB patients who gained weight, none relapsed (0%). Meanwhile, those who lost weight or remained at a fixed weight and experienced a recurrence after undergoing treatment amounted to 1 person (50%). The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between the weight of patients with bacteriological confirmed pulmonary tuberculosis and the recurrence of pulmonary tuberculosis at the Lampaseh Health Center in 2021-2024.

Abstract

The development of the digital era has introduced new perspectives in audiovisual translation, particularly in subtitle translation for films. However, challenges such as linguistic factors and cultural differences between source and target languages persist, especially in translating Japanese keigo (polite language), which conveys respect and politeness. This study aims to analyze the strategies used in translating Japanese keigo subtitles into Indonesian in the film Gekijouban Violet Evergarden. Employing a qualitative-descriptive and contrastive research design, the study collected 317 subtitle data from the Netflix version of the film using the listen-note technique. The analysis was guided by Gottlieb’s (2021) theory of subtitle translation strategies. The findings revealed eight out of ten translation strategies, with paraphrase being the most dominant (41.33%), followed by transfer (36.91%). The prevalence of paraphrase highlights the complexity of Japanese keigo, which lacks direct equivalents in Indonesian, necessitating adjustments to maintain naturalness and nuance. Other strategies, such as expansion, condensation, and deletion, were also employed to address cultural and linguistic gaps. The study underscores the importance of translators’ interpretive skills in preserving the subtleties of keigo while ensuring audience comprehension. These findings contribute to the field of audiovisual translation, offering insights for translators working with politeness varieties in Japanese-Indonesian contexts. Further research is recommended to explore additional strategies and broader applications in multimedia translation.

Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that is often associated with various comorbidities, including cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes mellitus, and psoriatic arthritis. Obesity, particularly abdominal obesity, is known to impact the effectiveness of psoriasis treatment. This study aims to explore the relationship between abdominal circumference and the incidence of psoriasis in patients at the Dermatology and Venereology Polyclinic of Dr. Moewardi Hospital, Surakarta. The objective of this research was to determine whether abdominal circumference (waist circumference) is associated with the incidence of psoriasis in patients at the Dermatology and Venereology Polyclinic. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 30 psoriasis vulgaris patients treated at the clinic from July to August 2024. Waist circumference was categorized as high or normal. Data analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney test and logistic regression analysis. The majority of participants (70%) had high waist circumference. Statistically, only age showed a significant relationship with psoriasis incidence (p = 0.015). Gender, BMI status, and waist circumference did not significantly correlate with psoriasis incidence (p = 0.069, p = 0.789, p = 0.284, respectively). This study suggests that waist circumference does not have a significant relationship with the incidence of psoriasis. Future research could explore other factors contributing to psoriasis exacerbation, such as metabolic syndrome or visceral adiposity.
