Abstract

Nutritional status is a sign or a sideways that result from nutrient intake and nutrient expenditure seen through certain variables. Inadequate nutrition will cause tissue damage, infection and inflammation. Malnutrition significantly affects host immune resistance to bacterial growth. The presence of bacteria in plaque can cause gingival inflammation (gingivitis). This research aims to investigate the correlation between nutritional status with gingivitis in children aged 10-12 years in SD Negeri Perumnas 3 Depok, Yogyakarta. This research is analytic observational with a cross-sectional research design. This research was conducted in November 2017. The population in this study were the students of grade IV, V and VI SD Negeri Perumnas 3 Depok, with a sample of 45 people. Sampling uses purposive sampling. Data collection of nutritional status uses Body Mass Index (BMI) and gingivitis using Gingival Index according to Loe Stillness 1963. Data analysis use contingency coefficient. Most of the samples in children aged 10-12 years were the good nutritional status of 73% and gingival status in children mostly experienced gingivitis of 93%. Based on the statistical test the contingency coefficient showed no relation between nutritional status and gingivitis (p = 0, 860) There is no relationship between nutritional status with gingivitis in children aged 10-12 years

Abstract

Anxiety was the feeling of being afraid without any reason to be so. FIS was a measurement scale of anxiety levels in children consisting of five lines of facial expression. Anxiety at retraction was caused by the use of sharp objects such as needles. The act of filling when drilling often makes the child very afraid. Whether there was a difference between the anxiety level and the facial image scale (FIS) in children who will face the extraction and filling action. This was an observational study with a cross-sectional survey study. The population of this study was all children receiving services for the extraction and filling treatment. The sample was 60 respondents. The instruments were an anxiety level questionnaire, a measurement sheet with FIS, and a mobile phone camera. Data analysis used the Mann- Whitney test. The level of anxiety in children who will face the filling treatment was in no anxiety criteria with 24 respondents and FIS in children who will face the extraction treatment was the anxious criteria with 26 respondents. Mann- Whitney test results of anxiety level obtained Asymp.Sig 0,545 > 0,05 and FIS value obtained Asymp.Sig 0,321 < 0,05. It can be concluded that there was no significant difference between anxiety levels and FIS in children who will face tooth extraction and filling treatment.

Abstract

Dental and oral health care is carried out from an early age. Lack of knowledge level of students in brushing teeth makes teeth easily damaged. A flipchart needed for counselling to increase knowledge in brushing teeth for elementary students. Objectives: To find out the influence dental and oral health education using flipchart for students at primary school Remaja Parakan based on their knowledge level at teeth brushing The design of this study was quasi-experimental with a non- randomized control group pretest posttest design. The number of respondents was 80 students. The sample was divided into 40 respondents in the experimental group and 40 respondents in the control group. The data is obtained through a questionnaire. Data analysis using the Wilcox- on Signed Rank Test to find out repeated tests on two conditions and Mann Whitney Test to find out differences between two group. The knowledge level of the pretest experimental group was 90% in the wrong category. After the intervention, the knowledge level of the post-test increased to 85% in the first category. The knowledge level of the pretest of the control group was 55% in the medium grade, after intervention the knowledge level of the post-test increased to 5% in the excellent category and 95% in the medium category, with pretest and posttest analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showing both groups had significant differences with a value of p = 0.00 (p <0.05). Mann Whitney analysis shows the mean rank of the experimental group > control group, which is 59.03> 21.98. The knowledge level of teeth brushing after being given ed- ucation with flipchart media in elementary school students is increasing

Abstract

That isMentally-disabled children have below-average intelligence, affecting their cognitive and motor developments, so they are less able to maintain their dental and oral hygiene. Salivary pH is one that affects the condition around the teeth and mouth. Yoghurt is a probiotic drink which can prevent caries prevalence—determining the difference between salivary pH before and after consuming yoghurt probiotic alcohol among mentally- disabled children. This was a quasi-experimental research with the cross-sectional approach. The research design used one group, pretest and posttest. The research variables were salivary pH before and after consuming yoghurt probiotic drink. The research population was 46 men- tally-disabled students of SLB C Dharma Rena Ring Putra II Yogyakarta of 2018/2019 academic year. The sampling technique was purposive sampling on 31 mentally-disabled children. The data analysis was a paired sample t-test. The result of the paired-sample t-test showed that there was a significant difference between the salivary pH of mentally- disabled children before and after consuming yoghurt probiotic drink. The mean of salivary pH before is 7.08, which is based, and after 6.78, which is acidic. The probability value is 0.001<0.05. There was a difference between salivary pH of mentally- disabled children in SLB-C before and after consuming yoghurt probiotic drink.
