Abstract

Ambon banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) is one kind of banana that its peel has activities as antioxidant. It can control glucose level of blood and preventing complications in diabetes mellitus. This research was aiming to evaluate the effect of banana peel water extract in the decreased blood glucose levels and determining the effective dose in increasing the value of KTTI. This research was done by using animal as a model for insulin resistance, that was induced by lipofundin and fructose oraly during 28 days. Animal’s used were 30 male mice swiss Webster. It was divided into six groups, that were negative control, positive control, standard drug group of Metformin 65 mg/Kg bw, banana peel water extract with the dose 100 mg/Kg bw, 200 mg/Kg bw and 400 mg/Kg bw. The parameter was blood glucose level and KTTI by giving insulin 0,0125U/Kg bw intraperioteneally. The result showed that banana peel water extract with the dose 400 mg/Kg bw was the effective dose with the value of KTTI 1,16.

Abstract

Bandotan leaves (Ageratum conyzoides L) has an activity to inhibit the growth of Streptococus mutans bacteria cause dental caries. This Research was designed to establish quality and safety standards for simplicia and Bandotan leaves extracts. This research is non-experimental, which includes sampling, determination, making simplicia, and extraction. Characterization tests including organoleptic, macroscopic, microscopic, phytochemicals screening using TLC, determination of soluble water content, soluble ethanol content, total ash content, water soluble in ash content, acid insoluble in ash content and decrease drying. Organoleptic characteristics of simplicia test showed dark green, has bitter taste and aromatic odor typical of bandotan. The extract showed blackish green, aromatic aroma typical of bandotan and has very bitter taste. Phytochemical screening showed that bandotan leaf extract contains alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids. Microscopic of Simplicia showed hair covering, upper and lower epidermis, corrugated walls with anomistic type stomata, mesophyll covering palisade tissue. The percentage simplicia and extract of soluble water are 2% and 2,4 %. Percentage soluble ethanol are 12,9% and 9,5%. Percentage of total ash content 25,5% and 51%. Percentage water soluble in ash content are 10% and 7,35%. Percentage acid insoluble in ash content are 9,7 % and 2,5%. Percentage decrease drying are 11% and 75%.

Abstract

Black seed oil is known to contain thymoquinone and other active compounds that have antibacterial activity and potential to be developed as an anti-acne agent. The objective of this research is to develop microemulsion gel containing black seed oil and determine the antibacterial activity to three acne-causing bacteria. Black seed oil was characterized and developed to microemulsion gel preparation. Microemulsion gel was prepared using tween 80, glycerine, HPMC as surfactant, cosurfactant, and gelling agent. Microemulsion gel was evaluated including organoleptic, pH, viscosity, rheology, and stability tests. Antibacterial activity was conducted by a well diffusion method to Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus epidermidis, dan Staphylococcus aureus. The result shows the formulated microemulsion gives transparent appearance and stabile. The microemulsion gel has an antibacterial activity to Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Staphylococcus aureus with an average inhibitory zone 15.00 ± 1.70, 12.7 ± 0.42, 14.39 ± 0.37 mm, respectively.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by an increase in blood sugar levels due to interference with insulin secretion, insulin action or both. The aim of this research is to look the effect of counseling on public knowledge about diabetes mellitus. This research was conducted in Sidomulyo Village, Anggana District. The target of the feasibility of this research is the people who are in rural areas who mostly do not know the information about the risk, prevention, and treatment of diabetes mellitus. The method was used a counseling with booklet and the discussions. The level of knowledge was assessed using the DKQ - 24. This research used a quasi-experimental method with one group pretest-posttest design. Measurement of knowledge used Wilcoxon statistical analysis. Research respondents were dominated by 68% women and 32% of men with an age range of fewer than 60 years by 77% and more than 60 years by 23%. The results of the pretest using the DKQ-24 questionnaire showed respondents with a low knowledge category of 27%, moderate knowledge of 65%, and high knowledge of 8%. Two weeks later a post-test was conducted using the DKQ-24 questionnaire, the results obtained by respondents with the category of low knowledge by 3%, moderate knowledge by 77%, and high knowledge by 20%. The average value about the prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus, showed pretest 10.17 ± 4.891 and posttest 14.20 ± 3.119. The relationship between pre and post counseling was found with a value of p <0,000. These results indicate the effect of increasing knowledge about diabetes mellitus after counseling.

Abstract

The use of Citrus microcarpa essential oil is not widely known by the public. contains antioxidant compounds such as limonen and vitamin C. The dosage formulation is made in the form of Gel Mask (Peel-Off Mask) because Gel Mask (Peel-Off Mask) is a mask that is practical in its use, after drying the mask can be removed immediately and is able to remove the remnants of dirt that sticks to the surface of the facial skin. The process of making Gel Masks (Peel-Off Mask) of Kalamansi Orange Essential Oil (Citrus microcarpa) uses a variation of the concentration of Kalamansi Orange Essential Oil (Citrus microcarpa) 2%, 4%, 6%, the base used as Gelling Agent is PVA and HPMC, and evaluation of dosage includes organoleptic test, homogeneity test, dispersion test, dry time test, pH test, preference test or hedonic test. The results showed that Kalamansi Orange Essential Oil (Citrus microcarpa) can be made with a gel mask (Peel-Off Mask) and the difference in concentration can affect the physical properties of the Peel-Off Mask which includes the consistency and odor of the Gel Mask (Peel-Off Mask). Of the four formulas (F0, F1, F2, F3) the best preparation is F3 with a concentration of Kalamansi Orange Essential Oil (Citrus microcarpa) 6%.

Abstract

Lime leaves contain flavonoids, tannins, saponins and steroids which are thought to have antibacterial activity. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of the methanol extract of Lime leaves to P.acnes bacteria and to determine the activity of methanol extract of the leaves of Lime based on the value of the diameter of the inhibitory zone and the inhibition category. Lime Leaves extracted by the maceration method using methanol solvent followed screening tests phytochemical. The antibacterial activity test was carried out by the sump method with 6 concentrations of methanol extract of the leaves of Lime according to 25mg/mL, 50mg/mL, 100mg/mL, 200mg/ mL, 300mg/mL and 400mg/mL, positive control of clindamycin 0,1% and negative control Na-CMC 0,5%. The results of phytochemical screening, methanol extract positively contain flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids. Antibacterial test results showed that the inhibition zone of the Lime leaves of the methanol extract in the concentration of 25 mg/ml, and 50 mg/mL was 8.35 and 9.4 mm (medium category), concentrations of 100 mg/ml, and 200 mg/mL were 11.77, and 19.45 mm (strong category), and concentrations of 300mg / ml, and 400mg/mL, namely 21.05, and 22.87 mm (very strong categories). SPSS test results there were significant differences between treatment groups (sig <0.05).

Abstract

Sponge Callyspongia sp. has compounds that act as immunomodulatory agents, one of which is flavonoids.Flavonoids have the potential to be immunostimulants by increasing the phagocytic activity of macrophages. This study was experimental with a post test only control group design method. This study used 24 micemalestrain Balb /c with a body weight of 20-30 grams divided into 6 groups. The first group get extracts of sponge Callyspongia sp. 100 mg/kgBW, second group get the extract of sponge Callyspongia sp. 200 mg/kgBW, third group get extracts of sponge Callyspongia sp. 300 mg/kgBW, fourth group get the extract of sponge Callyspongia sp. 400 mg/kgBW, positive control group was given Stimuno® 0,13 mg/kgBW and the negative control group get Na-CMC 0.5%. A test given in orally preparations on the first day until the seven day. On the eighth day of each of the mice are injected bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (SA) by intraperitoneal. The activity of macrophage cells from murine peritoneal fluids sweep by calculating the percentage of macrophages that does phagocytosis of 100 cells are observed. The data obtained were then analyzed by one way Anova statistics and test post hoc Tukey's. As result, the are that ethanol extracts of sponge Callyspongia sp. at doses of 300 mg/kgBW and 400 mg/kgBW have potential as immunomodulator with based on results of statistical tests post hoc Tukey (P > 0.05) showed no meaningful difference against the positive control (Stimuno ®) wich improving the activity of the cells of the macrophage phagocytosis.

Abstract

Service quality, pharmaceutical providers, and the availability of medicines determine the outpatients’ satisfaction in the Department of Hospital Pharmaceutical Installation (IFRS). The phenomena, found in RS Santa Clara Madiun, are that and patients usually wait too long to get medicines, and the presence of empty drugs. The objective of the research was to find out the influence of the service quality pharmaceutical providers and the availability of medicines on the outpatients’ satisfaction in RS Santa Clara, in June 2019. The research was an cross sectional method on 100 outpatients, using accidental sampling technique. The data were gathered by using questionnaires and analyzed by using bilinear regression test (α= 0,05). The result of the research showed that the variables of pharmaceutical providers and the availability of medicines influenced patients’ satisfaction (p < 0.005). The variable of the availability of medicines had the most dominant influence on outpatients’ satisfaction at the coefficient value of (β) 0.853).

Abstract

Adaptogenic activity was related to antioxidant activity which can reduce the number of free radicals, which in turn will reduce stress and improve body balance. Mangosteen rind (Garcinia mangostana L.) with a large antioxidant content promises to be Adaptogen. This study aims to examine the Adaptogenic effects of Ethanol Extract of mangosteen peel (Garcinia Mangostana L.) Using the Swimming Endurance Test (SET) in Mice. Simplicia of Mangosteen Fruit extracted by maceration using 96% ethanol, then tested its Adaptogen activity based on swimming endurance test. The group consisted of negative control (NaCMC 1%), positive control (Vit C. 100 mg / kg BB) and 3 groups treatment of ethanol extract of mangosteen peel ranging from 100, 200 and 400 mg / kg BB where all groups were given oral 1x1 oral administration for 7 days and on the 8th day, a SET test were performed. After that, data analysis was performed statistically. The results showed that the ethanol extract of mangosteen peel had the ability to be Adaptogenic where mice swimming in all groups given mangosteen peel extract was longer than the negative group with a significant difference (p <0.05). Ethanol extract of mangosteen peel showed a strong adaptogenic antistress effect in mice based on increased swimming time ability of mice.

Abstract

Indonesia as a tropical country has a tendency to experience vitamin D deficiency. Knowledge and attitudes towards sun exposure contribute to the risk of vitamin D deficiency. In the midst of urban life patterns, obesity also increases the risk of vitamin D deficiency. This study was conducted to determine the effect of the level of knowledge and attitudes regarding vitamin D related to obesity in adults, which was conducted in March 2018 to January 2019. The study used a cross sectional design, with a knowledge and attitude questionnaire regarding vitamin D. Respondents were adults and domiciled in Surabaya , as many as 74 people in each group of obesity and non-obese. The results showed that obese and non-obese respondents both had good knowledge (OR 1.138) but had a bad attitude (OR 1,000). There was no significant difference in knowledge and attitudes in the two groups, and had a weak correlation.
