Abstract

Verbal communication is a type of communication carried out by nurses directly or indirectly to patients while non-verbal communication is a type of communication carried out by nurses with non-verbal cues such as facial expressions, expressions, smiles and others. Patients are often dissatisfied with the quality and amount of information received from health workers. Thirty-five to forty percent of patients are dissatisfied with communicating with doctors and nurses, the aspect that makes them most dissatisfied is the amount and type of information received. The amount of information given by doctors to patients is an average of 18 types of information to remember, in fact they are only able to remember 31%. More than 60% of those interviewed after meeting with doctors and nurses misunderstood the instructions given to them. This is caused by the failure of health professionals to provide complete information, the use of medical terms (difficult to understand) and the many instructions that must be memorized by patients. The research design used is cross sectional which is analytic in nature. The independent variable is the nurse's verbal and non-verbal communication, while the dependent variable in this study is the level of patient satisfaction. This study used stratified random sampling or simple random sampling which is a type of probability samples or random samples. The samples were taken from patients who were sick and treated in surgical treatment rooms as many as 38 people. Based on the results of the above study, it can be seen that of the 38 patients in the Surgical Treatment Room, the majority of patients said the nurses' verbal and non-verbal communication was good. There is a relationship between verbal and non-verbal communication with the level of patient satisfaction being treated.

Abstract

Invasive medical procedures such as venipuncture often cause pain, fear, and anxiety in children. Virtual Reality (VR) is an immersive technology that is increasingly used as a non-pharmacological distraction tool to reduce such discomfort. This study is a systematic review conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. Literature searches were performed across Google Scholar, ProQuest, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SpringerLink using the keywords: "virtual reality" OR "VR" AND "pain" OR "fear" OR "anxiety" AND "children" OR "pediatric" AND "invasive procedures" OR "medical procedures", limited to articles published between 2022 and 2025. From a total of 294 articles, 7 were selected after a thorough screening process. The use of VR significantly reduced pain, fear, and anxiety scores compared to conventional methods. Its effectiveness was more prominent among school-aged children with higher cognitive abilities and familiarity with digital devices. Virtual Reality is proven to be an effective distraction tool in reducing pain, fear, and anxiety in children undergoing invasive medical procedures and should be considered as a standard intervention in pediatric healthcare settings.

Abstract

Anxiety is a common psychological problem experienced by mothers after undergoing a cesarean section, especially when the baby is born prematurely and requires care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This separation condition can cause worry, helplessness, and may trigger postpartum blues and depression. This study aims to describe the application of Thought Stopping Therapy as a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce anxiety levels in post-cesarean section patients with premature babies. The method used was a case study on 1 post-cesarean section patient in Teratai 1 Ward of RSUD Kartini Karanganyar, conducted for 3 days with a duration of 10 minutes per therapy session. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and anxiety level measurements using the HARS questionnaire. The results showed a decrease in anxiety levels from severe (score 41) to mild (score 14) after therapy. Thought Stopping Therapy was effective in helping patients control negative thoughts and replace them with positive thoughts, thereby reducing both physiological and psychological symptoms of anxiety.
