SEMESTA Journal of Science Education and Teaching is a journal that is managed by Department of Natural Science Education, Universitas Negeri Padang. First published in 2019 and regularly published twice a year. The script that is loaded is the original manuscript, not yet published in other publications. The editor receives from the author of researchers, lecturers, teachers, practitioners, and University students for submitting the result of studies and the prioritized results of research concerned with natural science education and natural science teaching, including the development of instruments for evaluation, development of instructional media, the development of learning model, and ethnosciences in learning.

Penulisan ini bertujuan untuk menggali kearifan lokal yang ada di masyarakat dan menghubungkannya dengan sains. Kegiatan observasi alam ini dilakukan di daerah Padang, Sumatera Barat. Tujuan dilakukan observasi untuk mengetahui pohon-pohon yang termasuk jarang tumbuh di daerah Padang. Pohon yang kami observasi yaitu pohon waru, pohon ketapang, dan pohon beringin. Dari beberapa pohon yang di observasi, pohon yang memiliki nilai yang bermanfaat sejak dulu atau kearifan lokal yaitu pohon beringin. Karena pohon beringin di percaya masyarakat terdahulu memiliki mitos-mitos yang harus ditaati.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa aspek kelancaran (fluency) yang diukur dengan soal essay dan tugas pembuatan poster. Data dijaring dari 33 siswa di salah satu SMA di Kota Cimahi, Jawa Barat. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan statistik, diperoleh informasi bahwa tidak ada hubungan yang signifikan antara kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa aspek kelancaran (fluency) yang diukur dengan soal essay dan tugas pembuatan poster. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan yang baik dalam menjawab soal-soal berpikir kreatif tidak membuat siswa baik juga dalam membuat poster

Sakit gigi sering dijumpai pada semua kalangan. Sakit gigi disebabkan kebanyakan oleh gigi berlubang atau karies gigi. Karies gigi merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan gigi dan mulut yang paling menonjol di Indonesia. Bakteri utama penyebab karies gigi adalah bakteri Streptococcus mutans. Pada sepuluh orang di Indonesia, enam diantaranya telah menderita karies gigi yang artinya, prevalensi penyakit karies gigi di Indonesia telah mencapai 60%. Tanaman Jarak Pagar (Jatropha curcas L.) sering digunakan dalam pengobatan tradisional. Getah Daun Jarak Pagar (Jatropha curcas L.) mengandung senyawa aktif yang berfungsi sebagai antibakteri yaitu, saponin, flavonoid, alkaloid dan tanin. Pemakaian getah jarak untuk karies gigi dapat digunakan dengan cara meneteskan satu sampai dua tetes getah ke dalam lubang gigi kemudian menutupnya dengan kapas.

The case of food poisoning in Padang city back then in 2017 – 2018 indicated that various regulations such as government laws and regulations made by the government were still not able to promote cautiousness among consumers in choosing groceries. This also indicated that those law and regulations failed to stop food manufacturer or producer from using harmful substances in food management and processing. Numerous cases of food poisoning were reported on television broadcast or in newspaper almost in daily basis. Based on these facts, we would like to conduct a study to figure out the habit of consumers in buying vegetables mainly in terms of food security (or food safety). This study also aimed to determine the level of knowledge and understanding of people in choosing vegetables that have a good level of food safety. This descriptive-analysis quantitative study focused on consumer awareness of food choices consumed based on food safety, which is measured from the change of community habits in the city of Padang. The subjects of this study were consumers who always shop in the Inpres market, the Alai market and the Lubuk Buaya market. This study is conducted in two stages. In the first stage, we distributed questionnaires that contain public knowledge about food safety to see consumers’ habit in choosing vegetables. Our findings indicated that only 3.2% of consumers understand that the decision to buy vegetables is associated with food security. As much as 54.03% of our subjects do not really care whether the vegetables consumed contain pesticides or not. We provided counselling, guidance on how to select good and healthy vegetables aided by organic vegetable brochures and a pin to mark our consumers. In the second phase, we provided counselling, guidance on how to choose vegetables that are safe to consume and the negative impacts from consuming vegetables that contain residual chemicals from fertilizers and pesticides. The results showed changes in consumers’ behaviour in choosing vegetables that have food safety. Through this study, we expect that the numbers of consumer who aware of the importance of having good level of food safety will increase and therefore will I turn reduce the number of food poisoning cases in Indonesian.

Afer 9 month doing online learning, a lot of things can happen in learning and teaching process. The purpose of this research is to know the respond of middle school science teacher to online learning during COVID 19 outbreak. This is a descriptive qualitative research with questionnaire as the research instrument. The sample are 35 middle school science teachers from MGMP IPA Kota Padang. The auestionnaire shows that most of the science teacher do an online learning through this year because of the COVID 19 Pandemis. Whatsaap is the most used application and online learning really helps the teacher with teaching. Furthermore, there are a lot of obstacle with online learning that science teacher faces during COVID 19 outbreak and most of the teachers hope that learning will continue face to face in the classroom.

Penelitian ini bertujuan menggali pemahaman yang dimiliki siswa kelas XI IPA di SMA mengenai konsep pengaruh suhu terhadap kelarutan garam elektrolit, dan dasar yang digunakan siswa dalam membangun pemahaman tersebut. Subyek dari penelitian adalah 32 siswa SMA yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling. Subyek penelitian berasal dari dua kelas di SMA unggulan di kota Padang. Dalam setiap kelas, subyek penelitian dilabeli sebagai high- dan low-achievers berdasarkan hasil belajar kimia sebelumnya. Pemahaman siswa diperoleh melalui dua soal yang telah divalidasi oleh pakar dan terintegrasi dalam soal ulangan harian siswa setelah mempelajari materi kelarutan dan hasilkali kelarutan. Data pemahaman siswa dianalisis dengan teknik analisis data kualitatif, kemudian dikelompokkan ke dalam kategori tingkat pemahaman yang dikembangkan oleh Abraham, dkk. (1992).

Kreatifitas merupakan salah satu jenis keterampilan yang perlu dimiliki oleh peserta didik sebagai bekal untuk diterapkan di dunia kerja. Selain itu, minat peserta didik dalam belajar merupakan salah satu faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi hasil belajar, termasuk kreatifitas. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan profil kreatifitas dan minat calon guru IPA pada mata kuliah IPA Terpadu Kelas 7. Sebanyak 35 peserta didik yang merupakan calon guru IPA digunakan sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini. Nilai kreatifitas yang dijaring melalui poster memiliki rata-rata kelas sebesar 77,08, sementara minat belajar peserta didik pada topik penelitian ini berada pada nilai 83,81. Dilakukan uji korelasi non parametrik yang menunjukkan tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara minat belajar dan kreatifitas calon guru IPA. Kreatifitas merupakan keterampilan yang perlu dilatihkan secara berkelanjutan untuk mendapatkan hasil yang optimal. Salah satu caranya adalah dengan melatih peserta didik dengan berbagai kegiatan pembelajaran yang merangsang minat belajar peserta didik.

Padang Pariaman Regency has an area famous for its beach tourism. No doubt the average occupation of the surrounding residents works as fishermen. Abundant marine products make people associate with the beach. One of the uses of sea water for the manufacture of salt in the Sungai Limau District. Salt water can be seen as a square salt sea equipped with windmills to take sea water from the channel to the pond and processed into salt. Although local salt production is sufficient for industrial raw materials, therefore best practical technology is needed. The aim of this work is to directly improve the salt production process and the basic techniques for diversifying salt production, namely salt and bittern. The results of this work are as follows. Getrape type salt ponds are applied, where the young water embankment is located upstream and the seed pool descends to 1, 2, 3, then distributed to the crystal pot. Sea water is taken through a primary embankment to be pumped at an altitude of 1.5 m, so that it is still full of water at high tide. In the crystallizing pan (size 200 m2) sea water will be allowed to stand for 7-10 days until it is crystallized. Crystal salts located under the bittern solution can be crushed and collected at the collection point. Bittern left-after 29-30 ° Be can be drained back into the seed, collected at the bitter collection point..

Praktikum merupakan salah satu metode yang sangat tepat diterapkan dalam pembelajaran kimia kerena memberi peluang lebih besar kepada siswa untuk melatih daya nalar, berpikir rasional, menerapkan sikap dan metode ilmiah dalam usaha mencari kebenaran atau bukti dari suatu teori yang dipelajarinya. Selain itu kegiatan praktikum dapat meningkatkan kompetensi siswa dalam menggunakan berbagai sumber data untuk menjawab keingintahuannya terhadap fenomena yang terjadi, mencatat data secara sistematis dan menyimpulkan hasilnya. Agar proses praktikum dapat berjalan dengan baik, maka diperlukan penuntun praktikum. Penuntun praktikum dapat digunakan oleh guru untuk mempermudah penyampaian rencana kegiatan praktikum, dan bagi siswa penuntun praktikum dapat digunakan sebagai panduan dalam melaksanakan kegiatan praktikum yang sistematis. Penggunaan penuntun praktikum berbasis green chemistry bertujuan untuk memberikan kemudahan bagi siswa dalam melaksanakan kegiatan praktikum, mengarahkan siswa dalam menerapkan metoda ilmiah dalam menemukan konsep keilmuan dan mengurangi dampak negative yang ditimbulkan selama pelaksanaan praktikum.

The learning process is carried out fully in the network during the Covid-19 outbreak so that the use of learning media becomes one of the determinants of students' success in learning. Lack of application of learning media while online causes misconceptions in students. Based on previous research, 28% of students experienced misconceptions in dynamic fluid material with sub-matter continuity. The study was conducted to identify student misconceptions on dynamic fluid material using the four-tier diagnostic test method. The four-tier diagnostic test instrument used in this study was 5 questions tested to 17 grade XI students at one of the high schools in Tanah Datar. The stages of research were carried out as follows: 1) making diagnostic test instruments form four-tier diagnostic tests, 2) data collection, 4) data processing and analysis, 5) conclusion making. Based on data analysis and results of identification of student conception category on dynamic fluid material, 31% of students were in the concept-savvy category, 9% of students were in partial concepts category, 25% of students were in the conceptless category, and 39% of students were in the concept of misconceptions.
