Abstract

The mathematical problem solving ability of elementary school students in Indonesia is still low, which is confirmed through a number of surveys or research. This indicates that there are problems that occur in the learning process of solving math problems in elementary school. This study aims to describe problems of problem solving instruction and efforts to improve students' ability in solving mathematics problems in elementary school. This research is a library research that use books and articles as main data resources. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive analytical methods and comparative analysis methods. The results of this study indicate that the problems faced in learning mathematics problem solving in elementary schools are: 1) teachers lack emphasis on problem solving, 2) teachers experience misconceptions related to problem solving, 3) teachers have difficulty in teaching problem solving, 4) teachers still applying the teacher centered learning model, and 5) teachers' erroneous perceptions about problem solving and learning so that it has implications for their learning. Efforts to improve students' ability in solving mathematical problems in elementary school are: 1) innovating mathematics learning, namely implementing mathematics learning with problem solving, 2) giving non-routine questions as a way to improve problem solving abilities of elementary school students, 3) familiarize students with applying problem-solving steps directed through metacognitive guidance techniques, and 4) teachers must strive for learning using learning models that can provide opportunities and encourage students to practice students' mathematical problem solving skills.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the problems in the field of education as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, that learning could no longer be done face-to-face in the classroom. Thus, educational interaction certainly does not occur optimally. The purpose of this study was to describe the learning model during the Covid 19 pandemic at Wewo Elementary School, its implementation, and the challenges. This research is a qualitative research with descriptive type. Data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique followed the interactive model of Milles and Hubberman, which consisted of the process of collection, reduction, presentation, conclusion and verification of data. The results showed that: (1) the learning model used by the teachers at Wewo Elementary School was the offline learning model. The use of this model was chosen because of the lack of infrastructure to carry out online learning. In addition, many students could not use cell phones for learning because their parents cound not afford it. Another reason was that the readiness of teachers to carry out offline learning is also minimal. (2) The process of implementing offline learning is carried out by giving assignments and hard copies. The teacher provides the hard copies and assignments to do at home, accompanied by parents. Students were required to take and collect the materials and assignments at school according to a predetermined schedule by following the health protocol. (3) The difficulty while applying the offline learning model was that the learning process couldnot run optimally. In fact, learning occurs in educational interactions between teachers and students, between students and friends, and students and various learning resources in and outside the school environment. However, as long as students study at home, the interactive process did not occur. Students only worked on assignments given by the teacher in the form of the photocopies. The number of materials and assignments without communication with the teacher makes students feel bored and bored. This has an impact on decreasing student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Literacy is a comprehensive process that involves knowledge, culture, and intelligence to develop new knowledge and add deep insights. According to the results of an international survey, elementary school students throughout Indonesia have literacy skills at the lowest level. So to develop students' literacy skills, here it is necessary to have a teacher's role to build students in a literacy culture. There are several roles of teachers in the literacy movement in schools, namely teachers as role models, teachers as motivators, teachers as facilitators and creators, providing facilities and infrastructure, and providing rewards and punishments. Some of these roles ensure that they can increase the literacy culture among students. Without the role of the teacher, it is impossible for a literacy culture to be embedded in students.

Abstract

The problem in this study is learning motivation of the elementary students. This paper wants to explore the role of teachers in increasing students' learning motivation. To explore this theme, the method used was qualitative research with the type of literature study. The results showed that the learning motivation of students in elementary schools was not optimal. This can be seen from the low desire to learn, not diligent in learning, likes to skip school hours, and shows less interest during learning. This problem can not be separated from the performance of teachers who have been focused on teaching activities. The teacher's personal touch on the basic problem in learning, namely learning motivation, has not been a concern of the teacher. For this reason, teachers must increase their role not only as teachers, but also as companions and motivators for student learning. The teacher's role in increasing students' learning motivation is to clarify the goals to be achieved, create a pleasant atmosphere in learning, use a variety of methods in learning, give praise for each student's success, give awards, evaluate, and give rewards and punishments.

Abstract

Reading aloud a passage is certainly not easy, reading aloud or reading aloud is not an activity as long as it sounds the written symbol, but the reader must master the elements of reading aloud that must be applied when the reading activity takes place. If this is not done, then the sentence or reading that is read will lose its meaning. The elements of reading aloud are intonation, pronunciation, pause, tempo, pause, stress, and volume. These elements must be mastered by the reader. However, this is not the case at SDI Bea kakor. Fourth grade elementary school children have low aloud reading ability. The children make the sound when reading without paying attention to the techniques and elements as mentioned earlier. As a result, the children do not even understand the contents of what they read. The problem certainly has a causal factor. After the research was conducted, it turned out that there were so many factors that caused the low ability of students to read aloud. These factors include children's physical factors, gender differences, children's intellectual/intelligence factors, lack of student understanding of the content of reading, methods used by teachers who are less innovative, students' family environment, children's motivation and interests, and children's self-confidence. Furthermore, several solutions were offered to overcome the problems faced by children at SDI Bea Kakor, namely; 1) the use of repetitive exercise methods and; 2) the formation of the habit of reading aloud in children, which aims for children to have a culture of reading aloud.
