Abstract

It is important in the phase of teenagers to get specials attention since in this period the teens experience a lot of change both physically and psychologically even health problems which are often experienced by female teenagers, such as anemia, a lump in the breast and dysmenorrhea which happen every month. However, the teens are still lack of knowledge about reproductive health problems and how to deal with. Even, the female teenagers consider those problems as a common thing and it is considered as something taboo to share. Some teens also feel ashamed to come and check-up at a health center. This community service is wrapped in reproductive health mini-seminar activities to make it more interesting. The methods used during the health education are lecturing, question and answer, and practice. This community service is aimed at improving the teens’ knowledge about anemia, handling dysmenorrhea, and practicing self-awareness (SADARI) independently. This activity was conducted on June 20th, 2019 and followed by 85 students of Muhammadiyah Senior High School 1 from class X and XI. After joining this activity, it is expected that the participants can appropriately react and be responsive to reproductive health problems that are often experienced by teens.

Abstract

SDIT Tahfidzul Qur'an Mutiara Insan Sukoharjo is an Islamic school that aims to correlate science with the Qur'an. One approach is through observing celestial objects, but the school currently lacks a telescope to provide students with hands-on experience. This community service program aims to educate participants about space using Stellarium simulation software and direct observation of celestial objects with a telescope. The program was carried out in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The activities were attended by 9 teachers and 120 students. The program included educational sessions on utilizing telescopes for celestial observation, which successfully increased participants' enthusiasm for learning about celestial objects. The use of Stellarium software provided participants with a new experience by simulating various functions to display visualizations of celestial phenomena. Telescope-based observation also became a novel experience, with many participants eager to try observing through the telescope. The high level of enthusiasm among participants indicates that similar activities should be conducted regularly to boost motivation in learning about celestial objects.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a collection of symptoms that arise in a person due to the body experiencing problems in controlling blood sugar levels. The lower the knowledge, the higher the blood sugar levels. The low knowledge of respondents about DM disease makes respondents unable to control blood sugar levels. This community service aimed to enhance public knowledge about DM prevention through education on local food consumption and healthy behaviors. The activity was carried out in Kedungmundu, Semarang City, in August 2024, with the participation of 39 people. The education was delivered through lectures, discussions, and a booklet, containing information about DM, recommended diets, and the use of local food. The results of the activity showed a significant improvement in community knowledge about DM prevention, with post-test scores higher than pre-test scores. This increase indicates that education through lectures and booklets was effective in disseminating health information. With better knowledge, the community is expected to adopt healthier behaviors that can reduce the prevalence of DM, particularly through the use of lokal food. This activity made an important contribution to promotive and preventive efforts to control DM within the community. Future research is recommended to explore the impact of increased knowledge on changes in community attitudes and behaviors in DM prevention.

Abstract

The digital marketing efforts carried out by the village tourism group partners remain basic and minimal. The product and service photos presented have not yet incorporated appealing and aesthetically pleasing photography elements. This activity aims to improve partners' skills in photography and digital content creation, which are very important in promoting their pottery products in the digital era. The main method of this program is to equip partners with basic photography skills, such as selecting interesting objects, the right shooting angles, and using natural and artificial lighting to produce professional photos. These skills are crucial because the quality of the photos affects the attractiveness of the product in the eyes of consumers. In addition to photography, partners are also guided in creating creative content in the form of videos of the pottery making process, which adds unique value to the product, as well as compiling informative and effective product descriptions. The training was attended by 48 participants, with 96% stating that there was an increase in understanding about digital marketing.

Abstract

The issue of inorganic waste management, particularly plastic, poses a significant challenge in Dusun Tanjung Mulyo, Desa Bumi Raya, Kecamatan Abung Selatan, Lampung Utara Regency, Lampung Province. This community service program aims to empower residents in managing inorganic waste through eco-brick production training. The methods employed include socialization, hands-on training, and participatory evaluation of the community’s skills in transforming plastic waste into valuable products. The results show a significant improvement in residents’ understanding and ability to sort waste and utilize plastic waste to create eco-bricks. Additional positive impacts include a reduction in indiscriminately discarded plastic waste and the formation of active community groups managing waste. Moreover, the eco-bricks produced offer economic potential for the residents, either for local construction purposes or as environmentally friendly building materials for sale. This program contributes to waste reduction and local economic empowerment and is expected to serve as a model for inorganic waste management in other regions.

Abstract

The management of hazardous and toxic waste (B3) and household pharmaceutical waste is a critical issue due to its adverse effects on human health and the environment. B3 waste, such as used batteries, light bulbs, spent oil, and aerosol cans, poses a significant risk of contaminating soil, water, and air if not properly managed. Pharmaceutical waste, including expired or damaged medications, also has the potential to harm public health. Improper disposal can lead to pollution, causing acute health problems such as neurological damage and respiratory disorders, as well as long-term risks such as cancer and genetic mutations. To address this issue, an community program was conducted for the community in Dusun Gonggangan, Bolon, Colomadu, Karanganyar, involving the local women's community group (PKK). The method employed consisted of education through presentations and interactive Q&A sessions. The materials covered waste identification, segregation, storage, and disposal according to proper waste management standards. Interactive discussions encouraged active community participation to understand and adopt responsible household waste management practices. The results showed an increase in community awareness regarding the proper management of B3 and household pharmaceutical waste. The implementation of appropriate waste management practices is expected to mitigate the negative impacts of waste on health and the environment. Thus, effective waste management contributes to improved public health and supports environmental sustainability and ecosystem preservation.

Abstract

Since the emergence of the Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Regulation Number 4 of 2015 concerning the establishment, management, management and dissolution of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDES), villages have been indirectly given full authority to manage and develop their potential to become a successful village. independent with a high level of original village income. Each village will be allocated a certain amount of funds from the central government to be managed through BUMDES. Careful planning is needed to manage the potential and funds mandated by the central government. One of the first steps in planning is to map village boundaries. Many villages do not understand how to map village boundaries. Thus, assistance is needed, including outreach regarding village boundaries. Assistance in preparing the village map supports the preparation of the village master plan in the next process. The hope is that with this activity the village will be able to carry out village mapping and identify potential as a first step in preparing a master plan. The location chosen as the place of service is Pagerandong Village, Kaligondang District, Purbalingga Regency. Pagerandong Village has potential agricultural land that needs to be integrated into a thorough planning in the form of a master plan. Based on the results of the study and accompanying village maps, it is known that there are three main activities that have the potential to be developed, namely, agriculture with solar pump irrigation.

Abstract

The amount of food waste and leaves generated in the city of Bandung in 2021 was 1,430.04 tons per day and will continue to increase in 2024 by 1,796.51 tons per day. This condition needs to be controlled, so that it does not cause waste problems in the city of Bandung. In light of these conditions, a team of lecturers from the Urban and Regional Planning Study Program at the Universitas Islam Bandung educated the community on the processing of food and household waste, aiming to enable the community to convert organic waste into a more beneficial resource while preventing environmental pollution, including its potential reuse as fertilizer. In order to achieve the goal of educating the community, the team conducted education on organic waste processing using the Takakura method, together with 29 women of the Ta'lim Abu Bakar Assembly at RT 001 RW 012 Sekejati Village - Buahbatu District. Service activities include 7 (seven) stages, namely planning, coordination, socialization, Pre-Test, education about waste, assistance in making products and evaluation of activities (Post-Test). In the core activity, before the presentation on the understanding of waste management using the Takakura Method, PkM participants were given a questionnaire to find out their understanding of waste and its processing system. Subsequently, the presentation of material and compost making practices using the Takakura Method was carried out, and ended with an evaluation of activities (Post-Test) with the distribution of questionnaires. The results of the PkM activity include an increase in the understanding of PkM participants from 60% to 77% after education. The highest understanding of participants in the types of organic waste and 3R waste sorting was 93%. In addition, PkM participants were also very active during the activity and continued the activity of making kompok (waste processing) using the Takakura Method in their respective homes. So it is hoped that PkM activities can help the community better understand waste sorting, the importance of sorting organic waste, a cleaner environment, and the realization of sustainability.
