Abstract

However, even now, learning in public senior high schools is still facing various obstacles such as the domination of memorization teaching strategy, low level of students' involvement in learning, and inadequate development of higher order thinking skills. Thus, the significance of instructional leadership by school principals in transforming learning through deep learning paradigm becomes very apparent. At present, despite growing interest of many countries around the globe toward deep learning as a pedagogic framework, the role of instructional leadership in its implementation process at the secondary education level still remains largely unexplored especially in Indonesia. The current study aimed to investigate the implementation of instructional leadership in deep learning implementation, the strategies used by school principals, and the factors affecting its success or failure. This study used a literature review. Information for analysis was gathered from both national and international peer reviewed journals, books, and scientific publications in Google Scholar, Scopus, and ERIC databases. Content analysis of the collected data has been performed based on Miles et al. (2014) framework. The results of analysis demonstrate that instructional leadership of school principals is an important factor in supporting deep learning through the following aspects: (1) establishing vision of learning; (2) conducting efficient instructional leadership strategies like professional learning community and clinical supervision; (3) incorporating digital technology into the learning process appropriately; (4) developing continuous professional development of teachers; (5) management of supporting and inhibiting factors. Deep learning implementation thus depends largely on the ability of principals to create new quality oriented learning environment. The research will contribute to improvement of educational leadership practice aimed at achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 regarding provision of quality education for all.

Abstract

The complexity of scientific (Latin) terms, a high level of element activity within the concepts, and the abstract nature of visual-spatial concepts can make botany courses quite challenging. Students often experience working memory overload as a result of the high external cognitive load caused by conventional learning platforms. In order to propose the development of a "Smart E-Library" for university-level botany courses, this study aimed to analyze student learning needs and cognitive load profiles. Undergraduate Biology Education students (n=59) participated in a descriptive-analytical survey that employed a questionnaire based on the components of Cognitive Load Theory (CLT): Germane Cognitive Load (GCL), Extraneous Cognitive Load (ECL), and Intrinsic Cognitive Load (ICL). Aiken's V was used to assess the content validity of the instrument (V = 0.833; high category). Results indicated a high intrinsic load linked to spatial visualization from 2D to 3D (59.3%) and semantic word retention (55.9%). The split-attention effect (79.7%), complicated glossary navigation (71.2%), and black and white anatomical graphics without color coding (84.7%) were among the elements that led to excessive ECL in conventional media. Meanwhile, very high levels of mental effort and engagement (94% across all GCL indicators) were found. However, these findings cannot be directly linked to successful learning outcomes. In the next stage of development, these results will be used to determine learning requirements and create a preliminary design for the Smart E-Library. The study specifies important design requirements for the Smart E-Library, such as an interactive 3D spatial anatomy viewer, pop-up glossary, and adaptive microlearning modules, in order to address these challenges.

Abstract

Ineffectiveness in handling educational information results in decision-making failures at schools, for instance, erroneous planning and improper allocation of resources. In this regard, the importance of school administration in the context of Management Information System (MIS) is emphasized as an issue that has not yet been considered in its systematic form. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to examine and suggest approaches to improve the role of school administration in MIS implementation in order to facilitate decision-making based on collected data. The study used a literature review. The sources included articles from authoritative national and international journals, conference papers and academic books. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results indicate that there are seven strategically integrated roles of school operators, including data quality guardian, efficiency driver, data mediator, ICT integration agent, system sustainability manager, bridge between technology, data, and management, and holistic competency implementer. These seven roles were then synthesized into a conceptual model of four competency dimensions (technical, analytical, managerial, and data communication) as a foundation for strengthening the Educational Information System (SIM). Thus, the effectiveness of data-driven decision-making heavily depends on the capacity of school operators and the shift in their roles from technical-operational to strategic-managerial. This study contributes to strengthening the educational information management framework to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 quality education through effective data-driven school governance.

Abstract

Sodong Village has developed the Sodong Educational Tourism area based on agribusiness, but the potential floral diversity in the area has not yet been scientifically documented. This study aims to: (1) inventory the flora species in Sodong Educational Tourism along with their taxonomic classification and morphological characteristics; (2) analyze the pattern of flora utilization by the community; (3) examine their ecological roles; and (4) analyze the potential of floral species diversity as capital for developing botanical educational tourism. The method employed was the cruise method, which utilized a descriptive exploratory approach, incorporating field observations, morphological documentation, semi-structured interviews with managers and community members, and a literature review. Data were tabulated based on taxonomy, habitus, morphology, utilization, and ecological roles. The results found 27 flora species from 17 families, dominated by Cucurbitaceae (4 species), followed by Solanaceae and Myrtaceae (3 species each). The flora is divided into seasonal horticultural plants and annual fruit plants (creeping/upright herbs, shrubs, to trees). The community utilizes this flora as a source of food, traditional medicine, handicraft materials, and economic commodities. Ecologically, the flora functions as a pollinator attractor (confirmed through field observation literature), ground cover (soil preservation), microclimate shade provider, and fauna feed provider. This taxonomic, morphological, utilization, and ecological diversity proves that Sodong Edu-Tourism has potential as a resource for developing an educational and botanical conservation area.

Abstract

The botanical diversity found in Indonesia is contrasted by the country’s dependency on imported foodstuffs. This paper aims to conduct an ethnobotanical survey of local food plants found in Banten Province, Indonesia, and develop a pedagogical reconstruction concept model that incorporates TEK into biology lessons at secondary and tertiary levels. An ethnobotanical survey of local food plants was carried out in March to May 2026 in the coastal, lowland agroforestry, and highland ecosystems of Pandeglang, Lebak, Serang, and Cilegon regions. Data were gathered using purposeful sampling through field observations, specimen collection, semi-structured interviews involving 45 local informants (elderlies, farmers, and indigenous community leaders), and secondary literature validation. Species recorded were identified taxonomically using Plants of the World Online (POWO) database and categorized in core biological subjects within TPACK framework. The ethnobotanical survey revealed 32 species of local food plants belonging to 7 functional groups. Some of the important findings include the underexploitation of valuable functional species like Xanthosoma undipes (Taro Beneng; starch 80.6%, GI 48) and Sonneratia caseolaris (Pedada), as well as species requiring conservation efforts, like Garcinia dulcis (Mundu) and Baccaurea racemosa (Jatake). The cyanogenic detoxification of Dioscorea hispida and the Leuit post-harvesting storage practice of indigenous people were conceptually linked to biochemistry, plant physiology, ecology, and taxonomy lessons. In order to translate traditional knowledge into a form compatible with contemporary digital learning, the framework considers the use of future AI-supported smart identification through the use of the Pl@ntNet API.
