Abstract

Indonesia is the third largest tropical forest country. There are about 125 million Ha of total Indonesian forests, in which 27 million Ha are conservation areas. Besides conserving species and ecosystem, national parks are also natural solutions for climate change problem. Despite its vital roles in mitigating climate change, national parks are affected by climate change. Changing in climate alters forest composition and structure, scenic beauty, cultural heritage, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. These impacts eventually could harm tourism, and national park development. National park is an interesting landscape to study climate change. It is a nature conservation area, has native ecosystem, managed using zoning system and mainly used for research, education, and nature tourism. Many of the national parks are protected from urbanization, timber harvesting, grazing, and other non-climate factors. Therefore, it can be said that human is one of the main causes of climate change. Taking into account the nature of national parks and inevitable impact of climate change, research needs to be done to assess how climate change affects national parks. Using literature review, this paper will explore to what extent the research on impacts of climate change in Indonesia national parks has been done and provide information regarding existing mitigation and adaptation actions.

Abstract

Ministry of the Environment Indonesia launched Adiwiyata “Green School” program in 2006 for encouraging and forming environmentally friendly and cultured schools that are able to participate and carry out environmental preservation and sustainable development efforts. This paper describes Forestry Vocational School activities in achieving Adiwiyata. The paper also provides information regarding its effectiveness, and challenges during its implementation. The school has adopted Adiwiyata “Green School” since 2013. There are 4 (four) components which are used as a guideline for undertaking adiwiyata school program, including school policies, curriculum, participatory-based activities, and facilities/infrastructure that support environmental education. Adiwiyata is an effective tool in raising environmental awareness that could eventually lead to eco-behavior. However, its implementation should also be supported by other stakeholders/programs as environmental awareness and behavior do not depend solely on Adiwiyata program.

Abstract

Penggung, Hargorejo, Kokap, Kulon Progo is the region that has many growing coconut trees. The utilization of the coconut including the nira (fermented coconut) and coconut flesh. The coconut is extracted to get the coconut flesh while the coir and shell were sold to collectors. The water was wasted without utilization.  In this case, Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT or women’s farmer community) is trying to utilize coconut water through assisting the program of the coconut soy sauce production. The main material for making soy sauce is coconut water and spices. The method used by washed spices and mashed it, then warmed up the spices with coconut water. Because of the low protein content, the water soy sauce can be added with soybean, fish or shrimp powder to increase the protein. The water coconut soy sauce contained 24.01% of water, 2.30% protein, 6.09% of ash and 12.34% solid solution. The soy sauce lasts for a week without any preservatives. For more seven days usage can be added with 0.02% benzoate acid 0.5 g into a bottle of soy sauce.

Abstract

Up to now the Agriculture Ministry of Republic of Indonesia has released 19 varieties of hybrid rice. Hipa 6 Jete and Hipa 7 varieties are two of them. Hybrid rice is a group of rice plants formed from first generation individuals (F1) derivative of a combination of crossing between certain elders. Hybrid rice superior varieties has a higher yield potential than inbred superior varieties that dominate rice cultivation areas. Rice quality is one of the factors that determine the level of consumer acceptance of a variety. The rice quality is influenced by several factors such as physical quality, cooking quality and taste quality. This paper aims to review the physical quality, milling quality and physical properties of Hipa 6 Jete and Hipa 7. The length of Hipa 6 Jete and Hipa 7 are long and the shape are slender. Based on the head rice and broken rice percentage both Hipa 6 Jete and Hipa 7 are met the medium 2 and 3 quality class (SNI 6128:2015). Based on the physicochemical characteristics both Hipa 6 Jete and Hipa 7 are classified as intermediate amylose content with soft gel consistency and with high intermediate gelatinization temperature. In cooling condition the cooked rice of Hipa 6 Jete and Hipa 7 are soft texture.

Abstract

Synapses are a junction between neurons that has a plastic property. Synaptic plasticity can be in the form of long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD). The changes in intracellular calcium concentration can trigger LTP and LTD. Spike Timing Dependent Plasticity (STDP) is a modification of synapses that depend on the spike timing of pre-synapses and post-synapses neuron. In this study, we analyze the effects of intracellular calcium on the STDP phenomena based on Badoual’s model using mechanisms involving parameters such as calcium pumping, AMPA receptors, NMDA receptors, LTP enzymes, and LTD enzymes. In this model, a high calcium concentration will activate the LTP enzyme, while a low calcium concentration will activate the LTD enzyme, each of which will trigger the occurrence of LTP and LTD. The existence of LTP and LTD is the basis for the formation of the STDP. In this model, the parameters can be adjusted to obtain the STDP corresponding to experimental results where LTP is observed in the range between 0 < ∆t < 50ms, while LTD is observed at wider intervals between −150ms < ∆t <0. These parameters are related to the decay time of the NMDA receptor.
