SoCul (ISSN:2798-4672 ) is a bimonthly journal aiming at facilitating and sharing the disseminations of research findings, elaboration of theories, methods, knowledge, social engineering and learning and outputs in terms of breakthroughs, innovations, best practices in terms of community service or outreach relevant with Social and cultural issues. It mainly focuses, not limited, research papers related to what are considered being connected with social culture issues such as cultural values and heritage, literature, language learning, art and education. It may include economic and technology issue in the sense of social engineering and network development for poverty and illiteracy solution.

Abstract

Sikayu woven fabric not only has historical value as a cultural expression, but is also recognized as a work of art that has aesthetic value, so the purpose of this study is to identify the history of Sikayu woven fabric and identify the aesthetic value of each supporting element of Sikayu woven fabric. This research adopts a qualitative method that produces descriptive data, utilizing observation, interviews with sources, and literature studies to obtain accurate information, this research was basically carried out in Mogolain Kotamobagu as a research location because it supports researchers in conducting data analysis. The results showed that Sikayu woven fabric is not only a textile product, but also a symbol of historical and cultural values. The visualization of these values is reflected in the form, motif, art structure, art style, and art function that form the elements of the work. The unity, complexity, and solemnity of each work are clear evidence of the rich artistic values contained in the Sikayu woven fabric. The implications of this research are the history and aesthetics of the Sikayu woven fabric.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the development of Kabela in Bolaang Mongondow culture and its philosophical meaning. Kabela is a container for placing betel (obuyu'), areca nut (mama'an), whiting and tobacco (tabaku') as a banquet for guests. The type of research used in this study is qualitative using a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data sources in this study are divided into two, namely primary data from interviews and secondary data from written records. Data analysis in this study uses data reduction, data review and conclusion drawing. The results of this study show that there are several developments in the form of Kabela from simple forms to having decorations. There are past motifs such as pata' lumandai, pata' malasai, and current motifs such as coconut, flower and geometric motifs. The colours used in the past were red, white and black while today additional colours such as green, yellow, blue, purple and others are used. Each creation of Kabela used to have various philosophical meanings while the current Kabela emphasises more on aesthetic value. It is hoped that the community, especially Bolaang Mongondow, can continue to preserve this historical art object so that it is not lost or forgotten by future generations.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the meaning of the traditional songs of Bolaang Mongondow and the perceptions of students at SMP Negeri 2 Lolayan. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, focusing on current issues. The gathered data is first organized, explained, and then analyzed. The data sources for this research are the students of SMP Negeri 2 Lolayan and a collection of three traditional songs from Bolaang Mongondow, namely Tano-tanobon, Moraoi and Tobatu Lipu. The data were collected by three steps; observation, interview and documentation. The result of the research showed that the majority of the students have good understanding of the meaning of Bolaang Mongondow traditional songs which they considered as the identity and reflection of Mongondow heritage. However, some students have a limited understanding due to various reasons such as insufficient learning time dedicated to Bolaang Mongondow traditional songs or a lack of proficiency in the Mongondow language. Furthermore, it is found that the songs have meanings. Tano-tanobon means to heed parental advice, love and cherish parents, and not hurt their feelings to lead a happy life. Moraoi means that Indonesia is known for its natural beauty from Sabang to Merauke, and similarly, Bolaang Mongondow possesses beautiful landscapes, rich flora and fauna, and hospitable communities. Lastly, Tobatu Lipu means someone who has ventured far still holds their birth land dear in their heart.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to describe the functions of the oral tradition message Kada Tominaa from Tana Toraja. This study is conducted in the framework of qualitative method with the design of library research. The primary data source of this study is the Kada Tomina as an oral literature from Tana Toraja.  The primary data is supported by the secondary data such as books, research papers and articles from varios academic journals. The data is collected using the note-taking technique and analyzed descriptively. The findings show that the oral tradition message of Kada Tomina has two important functions.  The first function is to represent the expressive actions, such as expressing feelings. The second is to show the directive action messages, in the form of noble hopes and advice. The findings impliy that the oral tradition Kada Tominaa is integral part of the people of Tana Toraja.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine students' perceptions after using the Duolingo application as a media for learning vocabulary. The research was carried out at SMP Negeri 1 Manganitu in October 2023. The subjects of the research were students of class IX B consisted of 25 students. This research used the Descriptive Quantitative research method. Researcher used questionnaire to collect data. In the questionnaire, there are seventeen statements containing five aspects. In the first aspect, most students gave positive responses. In the second aspect, students gave positive and neutral responses. The third aspect is that the students gave a positive response. In the fourth aspect, students gave positive and neutral responses. And in the fifth aspect, the students gave a neutral response. The data was analyzed using a percentage formula. The findings show that the majority of students responded positively to the statements contained in the questionnaire. In the first, second, third, fourth and fifth statements, most students gave positive responses to each statement. Furthermore, in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth statements, most students gave quite positive responses to each statement. Then for the tenth and eleventh statements, the students gave positive responses. Furthermore, for the twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth statements, most students gave quite positive responses to each statement. And finally, for the sixteenth and seventeenth statements, the students gave positive responses.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the teenage social life in Looking for Alaska by John Green. This research is classified as a qualitative study. The primary source for data collection is the novel itself, Looking for Alaska by John Green, while secondary sources include relevant journals and articles available on the internet. These secondary sources provide additional information to support a comprehensive analysis of the research topic. The data analysis employs Freud's psychoanalytic theory, specifically focusing on the three fundamental components of Id, Ego, and Superego. The findings indicate that the teenage years encompass both positive and negative experiences during the process of growth and development. The positive things identified include group activities, collaborative learning, and read books from famous authors. Conversely, negative impacts observed involve experimentation with smoking, alcohol consumption, breaking school rules and watching porn movies. Based on this data, the writer concludes that when living life as a teenager, there are positive and negative things that are experienced during the growth process.

Abstract

By putting the correct marketing plan into practice, a firm can increase consumer trust in its brand and increase that brand's loyalty. In Medan, the use of Instagram for boba drink product marketing has the potential to capture a significant portion of the market, so beverage businesses will find it easier to establish a positive brand image with careful use and promotion. The purpose of this study is to identify and characterize Bobabox's use of Instagram social media for brand image building in marketing communications. This study, which was carried out at the production head office, Bobabox Jl. Setia Budi No. 157 in Medan City, employs descriptive qualitative research methodologies. It will be put into practice in April and May of 2024. The results of this study show that @bobabox.id uses five elements of marketing communication in building brand image including, advertising by using the Instagram ads feature, sales promotion by creating promotional content and collaboration, public relations providing the best service, direct marketing presenting linktree to facilitate consumers and personal selling through endorsements

Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore deeper on Work Ethic and Multiple Livelihood Strategies of Forest Farmers Households of KTH Wonosewu members who live in Sewurejo Village, Mojogedang District, Karanganyar Regency. This research design uses a qualitative approach. The data collection techniques were done using observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, literature study, and fishbone analysis. Data were analyzed using the Interactive method of Miles & Huberman in the form of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The findings of this study are that KTH Wonosewu forest farmers have a high work ethic in managing agriculture and implementing a dual livelihood strategy by also working in the livestock sector. The work ethic possessed by KTH Wonosewu forest farmers is shown by future-oriented work motivation, respect for time, and responsibility for their work. The existence of a high work ethic and the efforts made by implementing a dual livelihood strategy, so KTH Wonosewu forest farmers have been able to improve their welfare bit by bit. This research can provide insight into the high work ethic and the application of diversification of income sources to encourage welfare improvement.
