Abstract

The Sukoharjo Regency Government regrouped 16 elementary schools (SD) into 8 SD in 2022. This regrouping was legalized through Regent's Decree No. 420/376/2022 dated July 12, 2022. One of the reasons for this regrouping was because the number of students was small and not growing. The problem that is a priority for partners is how to overcome misconceptions about the implementation of local wisdom in elementary schools so that it can improve the quality of graduates so that it can increase public interest. The solution to overcome this is the socialization of the concept of local wisdom curriculum, which includes religious content, character education, and local wisdom-based learning. This service method uses a participatory approach. The training activity was attended by 60 people, consisting of school supervisors, principals, and teachers. Participants' understanding of the material can be seen from the participants' ability to compile local content work programs, which are outlined in mind maps during the training activities. Based on feedback from participants, it shows that participants consider this training program very good in terms of: clarity of activity objectives, relevance of activities to participant needs, systematic presentation of materials, added value of the materials presented, time allocation, and achievement of activity objectives.

Abstract

Currently, the preservation of traditional Javanese clothing faces significant challenges, particularly as children and adolescents are influenced by globalization and modern fashion trends. This influence has also affected traditional attire, which many children wear on formal occasions, shaping their future social status. Through this activity, an effort is made to expose, experiment with, and reflect on one of the most cosmopolitan aspects of cultural heritage—how people dress. This activity is part of a community service program titled Training on the Use of Traditional Javanese Attire for Children, held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Sanggar Permadani, Sukoharjo, with 40 participants in attendance. The training was organized by the FISIP UNS Research Group, in collaboration with Sanggar Permadani. The method used was participatory and educational, including lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice with the physical items integrated into the fashion training. The training revealed an increase in participants' understanding, interest, and motivation toward preserving traditional Javanese clothing. On a more abstract level, it is recognized that collective awareness of clothing as a form of identity is continuously being built, although without proper motivation, this effort may face greater challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and reveal the ideological construction in the Mabuug-Buugan tradition in the traditional village of Kedonganan, Kuta, Bali. The Mabuug-Buugan tradition is an annual ritual held the day after Nyepi Day as a symbol of purification of oneself and the environment from negative energy. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods to explore the values, beliefs, and symbolism contained in the ritual. Data was obtained through observation, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, and analysis of relevant documents and literature. The results of the study indicate that the ideological construction within the Mabuug-Buugan tradition encompasses several key aspects: (1) a religious ideology emphasizing harmonious relationships between humans, nature, and God through the teachings of Tri Hita Karana; (2) sacred and spiritual values manifested through the use of mud as a symbol of self-purification; (3) an ideology of preserving local culture amid the growing tide of modernization; and (4) collective identity and community solidarity that strengthen social bonds among village residents. This tradition also reflects resistance to consumerism, which conflicts with local cultural principles. Thus, the Mabuug-Buugan tradition has become an important means for the people of Kedonganan Village to preserve their identity, values, and local wisdom inherited from their ancestors. The results of this study are expected to contribute to cultural studies and serve as a reference for the development of cultural preservation policies in Bali.
