Abstract

Parents are the first place where individuals interact with their social environment, thus determining how the individual's personality is formed. There are problems related to the mother's role as a single parent in providing independence for children with disabilities. These problems include not understanding the knowledge and skills in accompanying children with disabilities, as well as not having relationships with parents who have experience with children with disabilities. Mothers as single parents also do not accept the condition of their children with disabilities, so they tend to provide negative parenting towards their children. This research approach uses qualitative case studies. To determine the location, use a purposive area at the Wing Mother Foundation Disability Services Unit, Banten Branch (UPD YSIB). The technique for determining informants uses purposive sampling with five main informants and one additional informant. Data collection techniques include observation and interviews. The results of this research explain the background of the mother's life as a single parent, the background of the child's disability, the role of the single parent, and the condition of independence of children with disabilities from before to after joining the support group at UPD YSIB. In the discussion, this research explains the role of mothers as single parents when they still experience obstacles and after making efforts to increase their knowledge and skills when joining the support group at UPD YSIB as well as changes in the independence of children with disabilities.

Abstract

K4 visits are a form of service during pregnancy to get visits by pregnant women with 6 or more contacts with health workers. Based on the data obtained from the report on the achievements of the Merbau Island Health Center activities, the mother's irregularity in carrying out pregnancy checks resulted in the K4 coverage at the Merbau Island Health Center not reaching the Minimum Service Standards (SPM) target in the last 2 years. One of the causes of the low coverage of K4 visits is the displacement of the Old Puskesmas Building to a place far from residential areas and poor road access. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between family support and access to K4 visits for pregnant women. This type of research is quantitative with cross sectional methods. The population in this study were third trimester pregnant women with the interpretation of giving birth in March 2022. The sample in this study amounted to 34 pregnant women who were taken by Total Sampling. The data collection instrument used a questionnaire. Data analysis using chi square test. The results of the analysis showed that there was a relationship between family support and access to K4 visits at the Merbau Island Health Center with a p value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a p value of 0.017 < 0.05. It is hoped that this research can be useful for health workers, especially midwives at the Merbau Island Health Center in improving health education about the importance of K4 visits, scheduling prenatal care according to standards and increasing the motivation of pregnant women by involving families in providing support to pregnant women

Abstract

Children under five years old (infants) are a vulnerable group prone to nutritional issues as their nutritional needs are crucial for supporting growth and development processes. Data from UNICEF and WHO in 2020 indicated that in 2020, 21.3% of infants worldwide experienced stunting, 6.9% suffered from wasting, and 13% had underweight issues. The Health Profile Data of Pekanbaru City in 2021 showed that the number of undernourished infants categorized as underweight amounted to 993, with the highest concentration within the jurisdiction of the Payung Sekaki Health Center, totaling 358 infants. Infant growth is influenced by various factors, one of which is nutrition, and for infants above 6 months, Complementary Feeding (CF) plays a significant role in boosting weight gain to support their growth and development. Bananas and pumpkins are local foods easily accessible and processed, both recommended as supplementary foods for infants. This research aims to identify the effectiveness of pumpkin and banana-based CF on weight gain, mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), and illness frequency in undernourished infants aged 6-12 months. The study was conducted from February to September 2023 in the Payung Sekaki Health Center area in Pekanbaru City. The study design employed a Quasi-Experimental approach with a Two-Group Posttest design involving a sample of 30 infants. Based on the conducted research, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the average weight and MUAC before and after the intervention of pumpkin and banana-based CF. Additionally, pumpkin-based CF was more effective in increasing weight with a p-value (0.000) < α (0.05). Both pumpkin and banana-based CF contributed to weight gain, MUAC improvement, and reduced illness frequency among infants. This can be considered as a recommendation and health promotion strategy applicable to midwives, particularly for mothers with undernourished infants.

Abstract

Research to produce products as teaching aids for clinical skills is still not widely carried out in midwifery education in Indonesia, especially low cost but high quality products. Research and development (R&D) in the form of student teaching aids in labor laboratory skills to assess cervical opening and breaking of membranes. After going through a series of R&D from the ADDIE (analyze, design, develop, implement, evaluate) method, the product was completed which involved quantitative and qualitative research (mixed method) in the evaluation stage. It is hoped that this product can be used as a student teaching aid with realistic, durable or cheap and safe characteristics. Research on a larger scale is needed as a follow-up action to R&D research in the mass trial stage. It is hoped that the government will increasingly support creative research, creation and product development of clinical skills teaching tools as a form of developing lecturers' creativity as quality teachers.
