Abstract

Abstract

This research discusses the phenomenon of cyberbullying as a form of social pathology in digital society with a case study on the Instagram account @abidzar73. The development of technology and social media has changed the way people communicate, but it has also led to various behavioral deviations, one of which is cyberbullying. The purpose of this study is to identify the forms of cyberbullying that appear in Abidzar's Instagram comment section and analyze them as symptoms of social pathology using Émile Durkheim's theory. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with case study and netnography methods. Data were collected through documentation of 1,000 comments from Abidzar's uploads, which were then analyzed based on sentiment and thematic categories. The results show that negative comments containing insults, body shaming, and moral shaming against Abidzar are a clear form of weak social control and fading moral values in the digital space. Cyberbullying in this context not only has a psychological impact on individuals, but also reflects the dysfunction of values and norms in digital society.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of online fraud disguised as prostitution via social media, with a case study on groups X, Y, and Z in the city of Pekanbaru. The fraud was conducted using digital platforms such as Twitter, exploiting the ease of access and weak oversight of sexually explicit content. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, gathering data through interviews with perpetrators and analyzing their modus operandi. The findings reveal that each group played a distinct but interconnected role within the fraud network: Group X was responsible for targeting victims, Group Y approached and manipulated them, and Group Z acted as the receiver of the fraudulent proceeds. The analysis draws upon Sutherland’s Differential Association Theory, which posits that deviant behavior is learned through social interaction. Furthermore, the phenomenon is influenced by media convergence, which enables the integration of technologies and broadens the perpetrators’ reach across national boundaries. The study underscores the urgency of digital supervision and the need for preventive strategies from law enforcement and social media platforms to combat similar crimes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the Social Service for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection in Rokan Hulu Regency in reducing early marriage, as well as to identify forms of crime occurring at the Ujil River Bathing tourism site and analyze prevention strategies using the Situational Crime Prevention approach. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with in-depth interviews as the primary data collection technique. Findings indicate that early marriage is mitigated through education, advocacy, and cross-sectoral collaboration. Meanwhile, the most prevalent form of crime at the Ujil River Bathing site is non-verbal misconduct, particularly covert photo-taking without consent, often occurring in poorly monitored areas. Prevention strategies include enhancing physical and social surveillance, increasing the risk of apprehension through rapid reporting mechanisms and personnel presence, reducing offender rewards through direct intervention and rule enforcement, and fostering ethical awareness through social norm education. Community members also play a role as informal guardians by actively participating in maintaining a safe environment. In conclusion, strengthening social sensitivity, collaborative monitoring, and victim-friendly reporting systems are essential foundations for creating safe and inclusive public spaces free from sexual violence.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the public acceptance of the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (e-Tilang) system in the city of Pekanbaru from a criminological perspective using Travis Hirschi’s Social Control Theory. The implementation of e-Tilang is intended to reduce traffic violations, prevent bribery, and promote transparency in law enforcement. However, public acceptance plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of this system. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with traffic violators, the general public, law enforcement officers, and system operators. The findings show that public acceptance of e-Tilang varies. While some support the system for its efficiency and transparency, others face obstacles such as a lack of socialization, limited understanding of procedures, and technological challenges. These factors contribute to public doubts and resistance toward the system. From the perspective of Social Control Theory, the lack of attachment, commitment, involvement, and belief in legal norms correlates with non-compliance. Therefore, the effectiveness of e-Tilang depends not only on its technical implementation but also on its ability to foster social bonds and legal awareness among the public. The study concludes that improvements in public education, accessibility, and responsiveness of the system are necessary for enhancing acceptance and achieving more effective digital law enforcement. Keywords: criminology, ETLE, public acceptance, social control theory

Abstract

Narcotics inmates require special attention in the rehabilitation process, one of which is through observation patterns carried out by correctional officers. This study aims to describe the security pattern implemented by the Class IIA Pekanbaru Prison for narcotics inmates and identify supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. The method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. The results show that the security pattern is implemented continuously through direct observation of inmate behavior, regular reporting, and evaluation of developments in the rehabilitation program. This pattern aims to assess the mental readiness, behavior, and attitudes of inmates in participating in the social reintegration program. Supporting factors include cooperation between officers and the existence of a structured correctional administration system, while obstacles are the limited number of officers and the high number of inmates. In conclusion, the security pattern implemented at the Class IIA Pekanbaru Prison plays an important role in supporting the success of the security process for inmates, especially narcotics.
