Abstract

The Eco-Tourism Village Program located in Wonocoyo Village, Trenggalek Regency, East Java, is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Fuel Terminal Madiun. The program was implemented from 2021 to 2025, focusing on community empowerment in areas surrounding the turtle conservation site, as well as the protection and preservation of sea turtle habitats and populations in the Kili-kili Beach Turtle Conservation Area. The program has generated positive impacts in economic, environmental, and social aspects. The objective of the community empowerment activities in the Kili-kili Beach Turtle Conservation Area is to increase tourist visits to the site, thereby creating a multiplier effect in the form of economic improvement, environmental sustainability, and the enhancement of sea turtle habitats and populations in the conservation area located in Wonocoyo Village, Panggul District, Trenggalek Regency. The results of the study indicate that this empowerment program has produced positive impacts for the local community, visitors, and the Community Monitoring Group (Pokmaswas) of Kili-kili Beach. These impacts include a sea turtle egg hatching success rate of 90% and an increase in conservation-related income from the educational stall reaching IDR 13,791,500.

Abstract

The issue of plastic waste management in Indonesia remains a challenge, especially in rural areas that do not yet have an integrated management system. Low sorting rates, limited facilities, and suboptimal utilization of industrial waste worsen the environmental and economic conditions of the community. The Re-Di program, through its recycle activities, serves as a model for community empowerment based on the circular economy to respond to these issues. This paper aims to analyse the implementation process of recycling activities, which include 3R plastic waste management, the development of Batik Javing innovation based on fine polymers, and the use of Oligotrik to support green distribution of MSMEs. The implementation method uses a community-based management, action learning, circular economy, and results-based management approach. The results show that the integration of community-based waste management, appropriate technological innovations, and the sharing of core competencies can strengthen group capacity, build circular value chains, and encourage the transformation of waste into productive resources. The program has had an impact on strengthening community institutions, increasing environmental awareness, and developing the local economy, thereby enriching circular economy-based CSR practices in coastal and rural areas.

Abstract

Indonesia is highly prone to earthquakes; therefore, improving disaster preparedness in schools is essential. This community service activity aimed to provide earthquake hazard education and a disaster preparedness assessment to students of Senior High School in Klaten Regency. The participants were 30 students who are members of the Adiwiyata School Cadre. The activity included an interactive socialization session discussing earthquake characteristics, regional vulnerability in Klaten, and mitigation measures at school and at home. After the session, students completed a 10-question questionnaire via Google Forms. The data were analyzed descriptively to assess students’ knowledge, attitudes, and preparedness behaviors. The results showed that the average preparedness score reached 88%. All students understood that Indonesia is an earthquake-prone country and were aware of appropriate actions after an earthquake and safety procedures when outdoors. Most students could also recognize early signs of earthquakes, understand the importance of evacuation routes and emergency preparedness kits, and identify the function of a seismograph. However, some students still had difficulty distinguishing between structural and non-structural mitigation. Overall, students of Senior High School in Wedi demonstrated good disaster preparedness. Strengthening contextual and sustainable disaster education in schools is therefore recommended.

Abstract

Limited access to education, low literacy levels, and limited environmental awareness remain major challenges for coastal community development. To address these issues, the Coastal Children's Nature School (Sekolah Alam Anak Pesisir) was established in Cendi Manik Village, Sekotong District, West Lombok Regency, as a community-based non-formal education initiative integrating education, environmental conservation, and local economic empowerment. This study describes the implementation of the program through a local-based educational approach that incorporates the principles of Education, Ecology, and Economy (3E). The program adopts place-based, experiential learning by using the Bagek Kembar Mangrove Ecotourism Area as a natural learning laboratory. Its implementation is supported by a multi-stakeholder partnership involving PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Integrated Terminal Ampenan through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Sanggar Belajar Jalan Pulang, the Bagek Kembar Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS), universities, the village government, and community organizations. The program has improved students' literacy, numeracy, communication skills, environmental awareness, character development, and entrepreneurial mindset while strengthening family engagement, local institutional capacity, and cross-sector collaboration. These findings demonstrate that the program provides a replicable community-based education model that promotes sustainable coastal development by integrating education, mangrove conservation, and community empowerment.

Abstract

Tuban Regency is one of the largest producers of palmyra palm (Borassus flabellifer) in East Java, Indonesia, generating substantial amounts of biomass waste, particularly palmyra shells, which remain underutilized. This community service program aimed to analyze the implementation of a community-based circular economy through the Eco Briquette Village Program in Kapu Village, which converts palmyra shell and coconut shell waste into environmentally friendly briquettes. The program was implemented using a community empowerment approach based on local potential, through social mapping, community capacity building through technical and business management training, the provision of production facilities, and continuous mentoring to strengthen local institutions and expand market access. The program introduced a social innovation called PESILAT (Integrated Palmyra Waste Processing), which uses pyrolysis technology and a dynamo-powered extruder. The implementation results showed that the program increased participants' average monthly income by approximately IDR 1.2 million while processing around 100 tons of biomass waste, equivalent to approximately 25% of the palmyra waste generated in the area. In addition to producing briquettes as an alternative renewable energy source, the production process also generated biochar and liquid smoke as value-added by-products. These findings demonstrate that community-based biomass utilization can enhance local economic empowerment while supporting sustainable environmental management.

Abstract

The Matano Iniaku social innovation program integrates social innovation and landscape resilience approaches as a conservation-based community empowerment strategy in the Lake Matano area, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. This study aims to examine the implementation and the social, economic, and environmental impacts of the program using the Sustainable Livelihoods approach. This framework encompasses the strengthening of various livelihood assets, including natural capital, human capital, social capital, financial capital, and physical capital. The implementation results indicate that transforming agricultural systems from monoculture practices toward polyculture agroforestry has not only enhanced the adaptive capacity of local communities but also expanded economic opportunities for vulnerable groups through income diversification and the development of environmentally based enterprises. Furthermore, the program has contributed to ecosystem restoration, strengthened social capital, and enhanced collective awareness of the importance of conserving the Lake Matano area. This study highlights that social innovation grounded in multi-stakeholder collaboration can simultaneously strengthen social, economic, and environmental resilience. Nevertheless, the program's sustainability remains influenced by corporate support, local institutional capacity, government policies, and market dynamics that affect the continuity of community-based enterprises.

Abstract

The transition toward clean energy has become a global priority in addressing climate change and increasingly complex energy challenges. The education sector plays a crucial role in strengthening students' energy literacy and sustainability awareness through contextual and experiential learning approaches. This community service program aimed to analyze the implementation of the Energy Independent School Program as a community empowerment initiative by integrating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with practice-based learning and the STEM Project Expo. The program was implemented using a collaborative community empowerment approach involving multiple stakeholders through the identification of school needs and potential, the provision of renewable energy infrastructure as a contextual learning medium, STEM-based training and mentoring, project-based learning implementation, and participatory monitoring and evaluation. The implementation results demonstrated that collaboration between industry and higher education institutions successfully integrated renewable energy infrastructure with project-based learning, enabling students to develop innovative projects and learning modules that were presented at the STEM Project Expo. This approach helped improve students' energy literacy, creativity, and collaborative skills. The findings indicate that integrating CSR, project-based learning, and multi-stakeholder collaboration is a promising approach to supporting sustainable energy education.
