Abstract

The high prevalence of anemia among pregnant women remains a major public health problem that adversely affects maternal and neonatal health, particularly in areas with limited access to health information. Innovative digital-based educational media are needed to improve pregnant women’s understanding of anemia effectively. This study aimed to analyze the effect of digital flipbook-based health education on changes in anemia knowledge among pregnant women. This study employed a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design conducted at Binanga and Bambu Primary Health Centers, Mamuju Regency, from May to December 2025. A total of 34 pregnant women were selected using purposive sampling based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Anemia knowledge was assessed using a structured questionnaire consisting of 12 questions administered before the intervention and two weeks after digital flipbook-based education. Data analysis was performed using the Paired Samples t-Test after confirming normal data distribution. The results showed that the mean anemia knowledge score increased from 9.44 ± 1.56 before the intervention to 10.76 ± 1.13 after the intervention. A statistically significant difference was observed between pre-test and post-test knowledge scores (t = 5.656; p < 0.001), with a mean difference of 1.32 points. Digital flipbook-based health education was proven effective in improving anemia knowledge among pregnant women and can be recommended as an alternative educational medium in maternal health services.

Abstract

Nutritional problems in toddlers remain a public health challenge, especially in areas with a high prevalence of stunting and malnutrition, such as Pangkep Regency. One of the interventions implemented by the government is the provision of supplementary feeding (PMT) made from local foods to improve the nutritional status of toddlers. This study aims to determine the effect of providing PMT made from local foods on the nutritional status of toddlers in the working area of the Minasatene Community Health Center, Pangkep Regency. This study used a quantitative design with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest approach. The study was conducted in August 2025 with a sample of 49 toddlers who received PMT, using a total sampling technique. Data were collected by measuring body weight before and after the PMT intervention for 60 days, then analyzed using a paired t-test. The results showed an increase in toddler body weight after PMT administration, with a change in nutritional status from undernutrition and severe malnutrition to mostly normal nutrition. Statistical tests showed a significant difference between body weight before and after the intervention (p<0.05). It can be concluded that the provision of PMT made from local foods has a significant effect on improving the nutritional status of toddlers in the working area of the Minasatene Community Health Center, Pangkep Regency.

Abstract

Along with the shift in government paradigms and the evolving paradigm of healthcare development, health service organizations at the regional level are required to continuously improve performance and responsiveness to environmental changes. Primary Healthcare Centers (Puskesmas), as the frontline of basic healthcare services, play a strategic role in delivering equitable and quality services, particularly for low-income families (GAKIN). This study aims to describe the organizational culture and the mindset of nurses in providing inpatient services for GAKIN patients at UPT Puskesmas Perawatan Campalagian. A qualitative research approach supported by quantitative data was employed. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires, while qualitative data were obtained from in-depth interviews and observations. The findings reveal that the dominant organizational culture is role culture (58.43%), and the most desired culture among respondents is also role culture (43.92%). The nurses’ mindset in serving GAKIN inpatients reflects a strong customer value mindset, characterized by empathy, responsibility, and patient-centered service orientation. It is recommended that organizational effectiveness and efficiency be enhanced through a gradual transformation of organizational culture from role culture to task culture by means of continuous organizational learning, while maintaining and strengthening the existing customer value mindset among nurses.

Abstract

Early childhood is a critical period for cellular growth that highly depends on adequate nutritional intake to prevent irreversible impacts on physical and cognitive capacities. This study aims to analyze the correlation between energy intake and the growth and development status of toddlers in Mamuju Regency. This was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design involving 30 toddlers aged 24–59 months selected through purposive sampling. Energy intake data were collected using a 7-day food record method, growth was measured via anthropometry (Z-score), and development was assessed using the KPSP (Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire) instrument. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rho correlation and Fisher’s Exact significance tests with a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the majority of respondents experienced an energy deficit, particularly in the 4-5 year age group (80%). There was a strong significant correlation between energy intake and WAZ (Weight-for-Age) indices (p=0.01; r=0.642), HAZ (Height-for-Age) indices (p=0.000; r=0.684), and child development levels (p=0.023; r=0.524). However, no significant correlation was found between energy intake and body proportionality or the WHZ (Weight-for-Height) index (p=0.545), indicating a homeostatic adaptation phenomenon of being short but proportional. This study concludes that daily energy intake is a primary determinant that simultaneously dictates the quality of physical growth and the maturity of central nervous system functions in toddlers.

Abstract

The nutritional problems of pre-school children, especially stunting and underweight, are still a public health challenge in Polewali Mandar Regency which has a relatively high prevalence of stunting. So far, stunting reduction interventions have been more focused on physical and biological factors, while the psychosocial factors of mothers as the main caregivers of children have received less attention. This study aims to analyze the influence of maternal mental health on the nutritional status of pre-school children (36–59 months) in Polewali Mandar Regency. This study uses a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach  and is carried out in the working area of the Stunting Locus Health Center. The sample consisted of 210 mother-child pairs selected using the proportional random sampling technique. Maternal mental health was measured using the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20), while the child's nutritional status was determined based on the indicators of height by age (TB/U) and body weight by age (BB/U) according to WHO standards. Data analysis was carried out descriptively, bivariate using chi-square test, and multivariate using multiple logistic regression. The results showed that the prevalence of maternal mental health disorders was 39.0%, with the proportion of stunting and underweight children  at 24.8% and 21.9%, respectively. Mothers with mental health disorders have a higher risk of having stunted and underweight than mothers without mental disorders. Maternal mental health is an important determinant of the nutritional status of pre-school children so it needs to be integrated into family and community based nutrition intervention and stunting reduction programs.
