Abstract

Acute respiratory infection (ARI) caused by environment factor, socio -demographic characteristics of parents and child physiological factors. The ARI is the top ten communicable diseases among children under five years in Indonesia. Studies of combination of two or three factors affected the ARI have reported, but study of association subs physiological factors are rarely. The aim of study was to know effect of sub physiological factors on ARI among children under five years. The study used articles from 2015-2020 and conducted from the PubMed and SCOPUS. There were 18 articles relevant with inclusion criteria in this study. Qualitative analysis was used for design study. The five physiological sub-factors, namely age, gender, exclusive breastfeeding, low birth weight (LBW), and nutritional status was associated with ARI among children under five years. The Age, exclusive breastfeeding, LBW, and nutritional status have the same impact affecting maturation immune system in infants. Larger amount testosterone hormone in male infant and smaller size of thymus than female infant. Both of them caused male infant more susceptibility affected by ARI than female infantKeywords: ARI, physiological risk factors, children under five years, gender, immune system

Abstract

The problem that is often experienced by post-partum mothers is the problem of breast swelling pain. Breast engorgement often causes pain, which makes post-partum mothers often delay breastfeeding their babies. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of aloe vera compress on post-pregnancy breast swelling at the Theresia Clinic, South Nias. This study used a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test with a control group. In this study, the population was 80 people, namely post-partum mothers. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The data collection technique was carried out using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Effectively used to measure the pain scale of breast swelling in post-partum mothers. The results of statistical tests with an independent T test with a = 0.05 obtained a sig value of 0.000 which means a sig value <0.05, therefore there is a significant effect between before and after being given aloe vera compresses on breast swelling pain in post-partum mothers. partum at the Theresia Clinic, South Nias. Aloe vera compress can be suggested as a complementary treatment to reduce the severity of breast engorgement in mothers after childbirth. Keywords: aloe vera compress; breast-feed; breast swelling pain

Abstract

Fungal infections continue to increase, this is because Indonesia is a tropical country that has high temperature and humidity, and many types of fungi are resistant to antibiotic drugs. It is hoped that this situation can be prevented by administering the extract of the leaves of Manukan (Rhinacanthus nasutus (L) Kurz) which has the active ingredient Rhinacanthin. The experimental research method was to test the effectiveness of Manukan (Rhinacanthus nasutus (L) Kurz) leaf extract in inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans fungi with extract concentrations of 15, 30 and 60% respectively. Data were evaluated using the completely randomized design method by comparing static groups (static group comparison) and positive and negative controls, as many as 5 groups. The results showed that the average diameter of the inhibition zone at extract concentrations of 15, 30, and 60% were 10.95 mm, 12.10 mm, and 18.92 mm. Negative control 0.00 and positive control 23.09, so it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Manukan leaves is effective against the inhibition of the growth of the fungus Candida albicans.
