Abstract

The fire department building is a building that has sophisticated technology. It takes technologies to help users in it. Users in this case are firefighters who must be required to have high mobility when receiving a report of a fire incident. Starting from the speed of receiving information, the speed of the officers in preparing the tools and equipment, going in and out of the building easily without being hampered by anything. Of course the building must have good technologies. As time goes by, which is now increasingly sophisticated and modern, the fire department building that is needed is a building that can provide sophisticated facilities, so that firefighters can carry out their duties to the fullest. Building design that has intelligent building capabilities where the management and control of electronic infrastructure operations in the building is carried out automatically. Therefore in this design the approach used is smart building. Smart building is a technology integration system with building installations that allows all devices in building facilities to be designed and programmed according to needs, wishes, and centralized automatic control or IBMS (Integrated Building Management system).

Abstract

Abstract_Health is a crucial aspect of urban development and human resource advancement. According to Indonesia's Health Law No. 9 of 1960 and the 1975 WHO definition, health encompasses physical, mental, and social well-being. The city of Makassar faces significant challenges in providing healthcare services, particularly with the growing demand for hospital referrals. The Covid-19 pandemic, caused by the Coronavirus, was first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and rapidly spread worldwide, including to Indonesia. This pandemic necessitated mitigation measures, including social restrictions as outlined in Government Regulation No. 21 of 2020. This study aims to design a specialized hospital for Covid-19 patients in Makassar, applying a healing environment architectural approach. The research methodology includes site analysis, primary and secondary data collection, and synthesis of concepts based on design elements that support patient recovery. The results show a hospital design incorporating natural lighting, optimal ventilation, and integration of natural elements, which enhance patients' physical and psychological comfort and accelerate the healing process.

Abstract

Abstract_ The increasingly severe global climate change, triggered by human activities such as fossil fuel combustion, deforestation, and industrial activities, has created an urgency to design buildings that are more efficient and environmentally friendly. Global warming, caused by the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere, necessitates the application of new approaches in building design, which not only focus on reducing energy consumption but also on overall environmental sustainability. This research aims to identify the application of bioclimatic architecture principles in building design, focusing on orientation, openings, and material selection that support energy efficiency. The methods used in this research include descriptive analysis of passive solar design that utilizes natural energy from the surrounding environment, the selection of sustainable materials, and the implementation of green systems such as green roofs and rainwater harvesting systems to reduce the building's carbon footprint. The research results indicate that the application of bioclimatic architecture principles, such as optimal building orientation towards the sun and efficient use of openings, can reduce dependence on artificial energy, enhance occupant comfort, and minimize negative environmental impacts. These findings support climate change mitigation efforts by creating buildings that are more energy-efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly.

Abstract

Contemporary architecture emerged as a response to changing times that demand innovation in architectural form and concept. This shift is driven by architects’ dissatisfaction with rigid conventional architectural theories. Dynamic design adaptations—such as the use of curved exterior lines, unique asymmetrical room shapes, aesthetically placed large windows, the application of neutral and bold colors, and unconventional materials like glass and metal—characterize contemporary architecture. Additionally, buildings often feature open roofs that apply environmentally friendly principles while providing protection from sunlight. To ensure that Islamic buildings remain relevant and modern in line with current developments, this study employed methods including literature review, analysis of contemporary design, and the application of aesthetic principles along with environmentally sustainable functions in the design process. The results demonstrate that the Islamic Studies Centre can achieve modern, aesthetic, and functional buildings through a contemporary architectural approach without compromising Islamic values while also supporting sustainability and user comfort.

Abstract

A person is considered a person with disabilities (PWD) if they experience physical limitations that affect their functions, activities, and social interactions, requiring facilities that improve accessibility. This study aims to apply the concept of behavior architecture to improve accessibility for PWD at the Special Needs School (SLB) in Sinjai by implementing accessibility features such as handrails around the site. In order to make SLB Sinjai more comfortable and accessible for deaf, speech-impaired, and visually impaired children, the design includes a lobby with stainless steel guiding paths, classrooms with ramps with a 6-degree incline covered with vinyl according to standards, and accessible toilets with stainless steel handrails at 65 cm of height.

Abstract

In the field of architecture, the concept of organic architecture emphasizes environmental aspects and harmony between a building and its site. The four main characteristics of organic architecture implementation are creating unique buildings that express their relationship with nature both externally and internally, selecting materials that align with their natural properties to create harmony with the surrounding environment, ensuring building elements blend well together, and the ability to communicate the time, place, and purpose of the design. This study aims to investigate the application of organic architecture in culinary tourism as a way to showcase regional uniqueness through distinctive local cuisine. The research methods include field data collection on physical environmental conditions, literature review on culinary tourism from books, journals, theses, and online sources, as well as examination of precedent buildings. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive techniques with reference to organic architecture planning and design guidelines. The findings indicate that applying organic architecture in culinary tourism can strengthen a region’s identity and uniqueness by offering local dishes prepared by the community. Therefore, culinary tourism based on organic architecture plays a significant role in enhancing the potential of unique local tourism.

Abstract

Urban farming is a type of agriculture practised by city dwellers to produce organic, healthy food free from chemicals, aiming to improve life quality through healthy food consumption. However, urban residents often choose unhealthy lifestyles and consume fewer vegetables. The most common barriers are categorised as technical and non-technical. This study investigates how sustainable architectural concepts can be applied both passively and actively in the design of the Urban Farming Centre in Makassar. Data was collected through field observations, interviews, and literature research, then analysed using synthesis methods to develop an appropriate design concept. The study indicates that urban farming centres can use sustainable passive and active designs to enhance energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and ecological sustainability. Passive designs, such as building orientation and natural shading, save energy, while active designs, such as solar panels and agricultural technologies, support energy sustainability and food security. According to this research, the Urban Farming Centre can function as a food production facility and as an educational hub, teaching farmer groups and the community to enhance food security in line with the region's potential.

Abstract

The design of the Agricultural Research Center applies the concept of a sustainable architecture approach. According to Kamionka (2019), sustainable architecture must be understood as architecture that is implemented in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and standards set by taking into account all issues related to integration and the environment, energy efficiency, water and waste management, material efficiency and raw material management, local preferences, and comfortable and quality use. In designing an agricultural research center, attention must be paid to designs that can meet human needs in terms of physical and mental comfort, safety, and aesthetics that can create connections so that they can generate profits for the sustainability of the building in terms of function or long-term maintenance.
