The mission of the International Journal of Literature and Language Studies (IJLLS) is to provide readers with the development of language studies in linguistics and literature. In addition to manuscripts that center on the study, we welcome manuscripts on a wide range of topics relating to the technology used for language development, cultural impact on languages, computational linguistics, and philosophy of language. IJLLS publishes scholarly conceptual, theoretical, and empirical manuscripts on the study of language and focused on literature and linguistic analysis and development. Submissions to the journal should be readable and understandable by a wide audience. Manuscripts should therefore also focus on analysis or illustration of the issues covered, rather than merely providing a mathematical or technical coverage, which would be more suitable for a specialist journal. All manuscripts are submitted and reviewed electronically. We provide our published authors with both a quality publication and the widespread readership that comes from publishing all manuscripts online within a few weeks of acceptance. This approach ensures that published works are read and cited by the widest possible audience.

Abstract

Speaking anxiety is one of the most persistent barriers to successful oral communication in English as a foreign language (EFL) setting. Although many learners demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, they often experience fear, tension, and nervousness when required to speak in English. This review article synthesizes international and local research on speaking anxiety and examines its causes, consequences, and pedagogical implications for Uzbek EFL learners. The review draws on studies conducted in different educational contexts and discusses major theoretical perspectives, including Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety and the Affective Filter Hypothesis. The analysis indicates that speaking anxiety is influenced by psychological, linguistic, social, and instructional factors. Fear of negative evaluation, fear of making mistakes, low self-confidence, insufficient vocabulary knowledge, limited opportunities for communication, and classroom practices emerge as the most commonly reported causes. The review also demonstrates that anxiety has a significant and academic achievement. Furthermore, anxiety may contribute to long-term avoidance of communication and negative attitudes toward language learning. The article argues that supportive classroom environments, communicative teaching approaches, collaborative learning activities, constructive feedback, and technology-enhanced speaking practice can reduce anxiety and improve oral communication skills. The findings provide useful insights for English language teachers in Uzbekistan and contribute to a deeper understanding of the emotional dimensions of language learning.

Abstract

This article provides a comparative-typological analysis of structural, semantic, and linguopoetic features of palindromic units in the Uzbek and English languages. The study explores the mechanisms of palindrome formation and their manifestations at phonetic, lexical, and syntactic levels in both languages. Furthermore, the role of palindromes in artistic speech and poetics, as well as the differences in their manifestation within two distinct language systems (agglutinative and inflectional), are scientifically substantiated.

Abstract

Speech acts represent one of the main instruments for carrying out communicative functions in the process of linguistic interaction. In media communication, speech acts are deliberately used to inform, persuade, criticize, legitimize, and influence the audience. Nevertheless, transferring speech acts between linguistically and culturally different languages like Uzbek and English is a difficult task for translators and media communicators. This paper will analyze the transfer of speech acts in Uzbek and English media texts through pragmatic and discourse-based approaches. Using speech act theory, pragmatics, and theories of translation, the paper will show how illocutionary force, politeness, implicature, and communicative intention are maintained or modified in the process of translation. By applying qualitative comparative analysis to media texts such as news articles, political interviews, editorials, and public media statements, the paper will define the main patterns of speech act transfer, including direct equivalence, pragmatic adaptation, mitigation, intensification, and contextual modification. The results obtained in this paper will show that successful speech act transfer cannot be achieved at the level of grammar and vocabulary alone. It also involves reconstruction of pragmatic and sociocultural meanings. Finally, the paper will propose a functional-pragmatic approach to speech act transfer in Uzbek-English media translation and emphasize the role of a translator as a mediator of communicative intention and cultural norms.

Abstract

Metaphor is one of the major means by which people understand abstract experiences. In the process of translation, metaphors often create problems because they involve culturally and cognitively unique ways of thinking. This paper examines metaphor translation between Uzbek and English languages from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. This paper is based on the perspective of conceptual metaphor theory and translation studies. It examines metaphorical phrases to understand how they expose conceptual mappings and how these mappings influence translation decisions. Through qualitative comparisons with literary texts, political discourse, and spontaneous conversations, the paper has identified three major patterns of metaphor translation: conceptual correspondence, conceptual similarity with different imagery, and culture-bound metaphors that demand accommodation. The findings of the paper demonstrate that metaphor translation depends on rebuilding conceptual mappings rather than words. This paper contributes to translation studies by providing a cognitive-functional approach to metaphor translation between Uzbek and English languages.

Abstract

Phraseological units constitute one of the most culturally marked and semantically complex layers of language. Their figurative nature, structural stability, and national specificity create considerable challenges in the process of translation. The present study examines the principal methods employed in translating phraseological units from English into Uzbek, focusing on semantic equivalence, descriptive rendering, calque translation, and cultural substitution. The research applies comparative and descriptive analytical methods to evaluate the effectiveness of various translation strategies in preserving meaning, stylistic coloring, and pragmatic impact. The findings reveal that equivalent translation ensures the highest degree of semantic and stylistic adequacy when corresponding idiomatic expressions exist in the target language. However, in the absence of direct equivalents, translators frequently resort to descriptive or adaptive strategies in order to maintain communicative functionality. The study emphasizes the significance of intercultural competence and contextual interpretation in phraseological translation.

This article analyzes Alisher Navoi’s views on poetry and poetic creativity as reflected in his Persian qit’as from the perspectives of artistic expression, literary criteria, and creative potential. The study considers poetry not only as an artistic activity but also as a system closely connected with ethical and social relations. Four samples from Navoi’s Persian qit’as were selected for analysis.

Abstract

In this article, we will consider the features of lexical-semantic use of the terms “grandfather” and “grandmother” in the Uzbek language. These terms are inextricably linked with the social life, culture and traditional values ​​of the people, and their semantic content not only expresses old age and intergenerational relations, but also serves to highlight the national characteristics of the language. It is also shown what semantic meanings the terms “grandfather” and “grandmother” have in folk oral literature, literary texts and everyday speech.

Abstract

In this paper one the main phenomen of pragmalinguistics the deixis and its role of creating deictic shift in agricultural texts in English and in Uzbek is discussed. The main features of deictic shift using deictic words are shown with the help of the scientific materials taken from scholarly articles and thesis. The pragmatic and cognitive analysis have been provided and the results have been given.

Primary hyperhidrosis (PHH) is a chronic disorder characterized by focal, excessive sweating beyond physiological thermoregulatory needs. Although not life-threatening, it significantly impairs quality of life, psychological well-being, and social functioning. This review summarizes current data on epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria, and contemporary therapeutic strategies, including topical, systemic, and procedural interventions.

Abstract

This article presents a comparative analysis of the functional-semantic characteristics of international vocabulary in English and Uzbek languages. Drawing on corpus-based evidence and lexicographic data, the study examines how international terms are semantically adapted, functionally deployed, and stylistically marked within each linguistic system. The analysis reveals that while both languages demonstrate openness to international lexical elements, they exhibit divergent patterns of semantic integration: English tends toward controlled metaphorical specialization, whereas Uzbek demonstrates expansive semantic broadening and hybrid morphological constructions. A systematic comparative table synthesizes key functional-semantic parameters, offering a structured framework for understanding cross-linguistic lexical adaptation. The findings contribute to contact linguistics, comparative lexicology, and translation studies.
