The mission of the International Journal of Literature and Language Studies (IJLLS) is to provide readers with the development of language studies in linguistics and literature. In addition to manuscripts that center on the study, we welcome manuscripts on a wide range of topics relating to the technology used for language development, cultural impact on languages, computational linguistics, and philosophy of language. IJLLS publishes scholarly conceptual, theoretical, and empirical manuscripts on the study of language and focused on literature and linguistic analysis and development. Submissions to the journal should be readable and understandable by a wide audience. Manuscripts should therefore also focus on analysis or illustration of the issues covered, rather than merely providing a mathematical or technical coverage, which would be more suitable for a specialist journal. All manuscripts are submitted and reviewed electronically. We provide our published authors with both a quality publication and the widespread readership that comes from publishing all manuscripts online within a few weeks of acceptance. This approach ensures that published works are read and cited by the widest possible audience.

Abstract

This article presents a comprehensive comparative-typological analysis of complex sentences with subordinate clauses (ergashgan qoʻshma gaplar) in English and Uzbek. The article examines the theoretical background of subordination, the formal means of connecting the main clause (bosh gap) and the subordinate clause (ergash gap), and offers a detailed classification of subordinate clause types in both languages, supported by numerous examples. Special attention is given to the typological differences arising from the analytic structure of English and the agglutinative structure of Uzbek, including word order, the position of the subordinate clause, the use of conjunctions versus suffixal markers, and the relationship between finite clauses and non-finite verb forms (participles, gerunds, verbal nouns). The article concludes with practical recommendations for translation and language teaching.

Abstract

Abstract: Urbanonyms—the names of intra-city geographical objects such as streets, squares, avenues, and quarters—serve as crucial linguistic, historical, and cultural repositories. In Turkic states, urbantoponymic systems reflect centuries of historical transformations, shifting political ideologies, and deep-seated cultural heritages. This article examines the development of urbanonymic research across major Turkic nations, focusing primarily on Uzbekistan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan. By synthesizing structural-semantic, historical-comparative, and sociolinguistic methodologies, this study maps out how these nations have documented and analyzed their urban spaces. The results reveal that while early research focused heavily on etymological and historical inventories, contemporary Turkic onomastics increasingly addresses the sociolinguistic impacts of de-Sovietization, globalization, and national identity construction. The analysis underscores how urban naming practices function as tools for ideological legitimization and cultural preservation across the Turkic world.

Abstract

The unprecedented growth of information technology (IT) has transformed nearly every aspect of modern life, including communication, education, business, governance, and social interaction. Alongside these technological developments, language has evolved to accommodate new realities and experiences. One of the most significant linguistic mechanisms involved in this process is metaphor. Far from being merely a rhetorical ornament, metaphor functions as a cognitive tool that enables individuals to understand unfamiliar and abstract technological concepts through familiar domains of experience. The digital world is saturated with metaphorical expressions such as web, cloud, desktop, window, virus, firewall, and platform. These expressions influence how users conceptualize technology and interact with digital environments. This article examines the role of metaphor in the age of information technology from a cognitive-linguistic perspective. It discusses the theoretical foundations of metaphor, explores major metaphorical models in IT discourse, analyzes their identificational, expressive, evaluative, and argumentative functions, and considers the impact of digital metaphors on everyday language and thought. The study argues that metaphor remains indispensable for understanding and communicating technological innovation in contemporary society.

Abstract

This article investigates how lexical choices in political war news headlines function as instruments of ideological representation. Working within the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and drawing on appraisal theory, the study analyses a purposively assembled corpus of war-related headlines from ideologically divergent news outlets. The analysis isolates five recurrent lexical mechanisms—referential naming, over-lexicalization, evaluative modification, euphemism and dysphemism, and metaphorical framing and demonstrates how each contributes to the discursive construction of in-groups and out-groups. The findings indicate that headline writers systematically exploit lexical asymmetry to legitimize certain actors while delegitimizing others, often through choices that pass unnoticed by the ordinary reader. The study contributes to media-linguistic scholarship by offering a replicable analytical model linking micro-level word selection to macro-level ideological positioning.

Abstract

Abstract. This study investigates aspectual semantics from the perspective of cognitive linguistics and prototype theory. The research focuses on the English stative verb to know and examines how its aspectual meanings are conceptualized in discourse. Drawing on the theoretical frameworks of Langacker, Jackendoff, and Geeraerts, the study analyzes the interaction between lexical semantics, aspectuality, and conceptual structure. The findings demonstrate that aspectual meaning is not restricted to grammatical markers but emerges through the interaction of cognitive, pragmatic, and contextual factors. The analysis further reveals that stative verbs possess a wider aspectual potential than traditionally assumed and can encode factual, resultative, and experiential meanings. The study contributes to the development of a cognitive approach to aspectual semantics and highlights the relevance of prototype structures in the interpretation of verbal meaning.
