Abstract

Previous studies state that self-regulated learning is a pivotal component in predicting students’ learning outcome. The present study aims to test the psychometric property of self-regulated learning scale to obtain a sound instrument. The procedure in this study included the scale construction, followed by psychometric property identification covering the content validity (using Aiken’s V and reliability test (Cronbach’s Alpha) of the data obtained from 203 respondents. The reliability coefficient of the final scale was 0.908, its discriminating power ranged between 0.307 and 0.626 with a mean score of 0.462. In other words, the self-regulated learning scale exhibit adequate psychometric property to measure university students’ self-regulated learning.

Abstract

Parenting is classified into several types, one of which is authoritarian parenting. Verbal hostility, corporal punishment, nonreasoning / punitive strategies, and directiveness are characteristics of this parenting style. The construct validity and construct reliability of the authoritarian parenting scale, as well as the characteristics and indicators that reflect authoritarian parenting, are being investigated. This study included all students in class VIII at Yogyakarta’s state junior high schools X, Y, and Z, which totaled 524 students. This study’s sample size was 185 students. The sampling technique employs cluster random sampling. Data is gathered using an authoritarian parenting scale. The research instruments are distributed directly to the subject. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the research data in the SmartPLS 3.2.8 program. The data analysis results of this study show that the characteristics and indicators that reflect authoritarian parenting are valid and reliable. The most dominant aspect that reflects authoritarian parenting is corporal punishment, while directiveness is the weakest aspect that reflects authoritarian parenting. As a result, because the theory describing the construct of authoritarian parenting corresponds to empirical data obtained from the subject, the measurement model can be accepted.

Abstract

Conflicting with the law will make them feel a lot of pressure and psychological changes like shame, regret, and unable to accept themselves. If they have positive thinking, they will easily accept their condition. This study aimed to observe the effect of positive thinking training in improving the self-acceptance of juveniles who were undergoing a period of correctional program. The subjects of this study included 24 juveniles at Class I Juvenile Correctional Facility Kutoarjo, all male aged 14-17 years with a minimum educational level of primary school, a minimum of 1-month correctional program, and first-time criminal sentence. Self-acceptance was measured using the RISA self-acceptance scale (2014). The research method used was an experimental method with the pretest posttest with control group design. The results of this study indicated that self-acceptance score of the subjects in the experimental group has increased after they received positive thinking training. It can be seen from the increase of the mean score from 33.58 with SD = 3,919 in the pre-test to 41.42 with SD = 6,259 in the post-test. It’s means that positive thinking training can effectively increase self-acceptance of children in LPKA Class I Kutoarjo.

Abstract

The QoL5 questionnaire is five items self-report to measure the quality of life, based on the integrated quality of life (IQOL) theory by S. Ventegodt. The validation test aims to determine the psychometric properties of the questionnaire. The translation and adaptation stages are carried out based on the International Test Committee (ITC) manual. The sample consisted of 217 people obtained a convenience sampling. Data analysis showed that the questionnaire was reliable (α=.78). Item discrimination ranges from .41-.74 (very good item). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) shows that the unidimensional model QoL5 has a good fit to the data (RMSEA=.07, CFI=.99, and SRMR=.05). The factor loading significance test shows a value of .5 or above means all items are valid. Tests of content validity (CVI=.87), convergent validity (AVE=.55), and criterion validity (r=.399-.581) showed that all items were valid. The results of the analysis indicate that the QoL5 questionnaire is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring the quality of life.

Abstract

Late adolescents are reported to have poor perspective-taking. This study aimed to determine whether an improvement to perspective-taking is achieved after participants read fiction, and whether a transportation process is involved in it. The participants in this study were late adolescents (17-22 years old) with poor perspective-taking and certain degrees of experience and interest in reading fiction (N = 8). This study used a pretest-posttest-follow-up design. The Friedman test results show that there is a significant difference in the perspective-taking scores of participants before and after receiving manipulation in the form of supply of fiction reading media (p = 0.002, ̄x pretest = 11, ̄x posttest = 37.25, ̄x follow-up = 37.1). The simple regression analysis test results show that the improved perspective-taking is not influenced by the occurrence of transportation in participants when reading fiction (p = 0.072, r = 0.175, β = 0.473). The participants showed improved perspective-taking right after the manipulation treatment was given, but slightly declined in the subsequent week.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the role of grit as a mediator in the relationship between job insecurity and innovative work behavior in employees affected by policies due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study is a quantitative study using an online questionnaire (Google Form) to collect data. The measuring tools used are the Innovative Work Behavior Scale, the Multidimensional Qualitative Job Insecurity Scale (MQJIS), and the Short Grit Scale (Grit-S). The participants of this study are employees in Indonesia who work in companies that implement new policies due to COVID-19. Through a nonprobability sampling technique, data were obtained for as many as 739 participants. The mediation test was carried out using the Macro PROCESS from Hayes model 4. The results showed that grit acted as a mediator in the relationship between qualitative job insecurity and innovative work behavior (B= -0.09, 95% CI [-0.13,-0.06]). Therefore, the results of this study can be used as a reference for companies to involve in measuring employee grit in the human resource management process

Abstract

During Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the spread of fake news on social media occurred massively. To avoid any negative impacts, people are expected to exhibit investigative behavior towards the news they encounter, including conducting fact checks. Previous research has shown that intellectual humility can influence investigative behavior when exposed to fake news about COVID-19. This study aims to examine intellectual humility’s ability to predict investigative behavior when dealing with news about the COVID-19 vaccine. The study involved 227 students (157 female and 70 male, M = 21, SD = 1.19) as respondents who were selected by convenience sampling. The instruments used in revealing the two variables are the General Intellectual Humility Scale, headlines of news articles about the COVID-19 vaccine, and the scale of investigative behavior tendencies towards news about the COVID-19 vaccine. The results showed that intellectual humility could predict investigative behavior towards fake (B = 0.89; 95% CI [0,62, 1,15], p < 0,001) and fact news headlines (B = 0,87; 95% CI [0,60, 1,15], p < 0,001) about the COVID-19 vaccine. This finding implies that higher intellectual humility in individuals is predicted to increase investigative behavior towards news about the COVID-19 vaccine.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the contributions of parents’ behavior to adolescent cyberbullying. It tests the role of parental psychological control and adolescent cyberbullying behaviour using a quantitative design with the selection of samples in the form of accidental sampling. Furthermore, the participants comprised 383 adolescents aged 13-17 years who live with both parents and have committed cyberbullying. The respondents filled out the questionnaires containing the Psychological Control – Disrespect Scale (PCDS) to measure the patent’s psychological control and  the Cyber-Aggression Scale (CYB-AGS). A multiple regression analysis showed that the control predicts adolescent cyberbullying behavior (R2= 0,053, F =10.619, p = 0.000), and as a predictor variable, it contributes 5.3% to cyberbullying behavior. According to the model, the father’s psychological control predicts adolescents’ cyberbullying behavior. This research reveals the significance of parental psychological control in adolescent cyberbullying behaviour.
