Abstract

The journal analyzes the influence of Rasyid Ridho's thoughts in the interpretation of the Quran known as "At Tanwir," especially concerning verses related to fasting. It explores Rasyid Ridho's contributions to Muhammadiyah's understanding of fasting in Islam, using textual analysis to delve into his interpretations of Quranic verses on fasting and their impact on fasting practices within the Muhammadiyah community. The research found similarities between Tafsir At-Tanwir and Al-Manar in their understanding of fasting, particularly in terminology, expectations/results in fasting, and the use of calculation methods. Overall, the study supports a deeper comprehension of Rasyid Ridho's role and influence within the context of Muhammadiyah's interpretation of the Quran, specifically in the practice of fasting

Abstract

Lexical cohesion plays an important role in building the integration and unity of a text, so that the meaning conveyed can be understood clearly and systematically. This study aims to analyze lexical cohesion in the discourse of the Qur'an by focusing on two main aspects, namely hyponymy and collocation. Hyponymy refers to the hierarchical relationship between more specific words and more general words, while collocation refers to the tendency of certain words to often appear with other words in a context. The research method used in this study is qualitative descriptive analysis with a discourse linguistics approach. The research data were taken from the verses of the Qur'an that show the relationship between hyponymy and collocation. Data collection techniques were carried out through literature studies and documentation, while data analysis used a semantic approach to identify patterns of meaning relationships between words. The results of the study show that hyponymy in the Qur'an is often used to organize concepts in a clearer hierarchical structure, such as the classification of types of animals, plants, and food. Meanwhile, collocation in the Qur'an forms a consistent pattern, reflecting the constancy of meaning that strengthens the cohesion of the text. The use of lexical cohesion not only enriches the language structure in the Qur'an, but also supports a deeper understanding of meaning for its readers. Thus, this study confirms that lexical cohesion is an essential aspect in building discourse integration, especially in religious texts that have complex language structures

Abstract

This study analyzes the differences and similarities between Maqashid Syariah and Maqashid Al-Qur'an from the perspective of Islamic research. Maqashid Al-Qur'an encompasses universal moral, social, and spiritual values to guide humanity towards justice, mercy, and balance in life. Meanwhile, Sharia is defined as the purpose of Islamic law to protect the five basic human needs (daruriyyat): religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property. In this study, a qualitative-descriptive approach is applied. The content analysis method was used on primary and secondary literature, which includes classical literature, exegesis, and contemporary journals. The research results show that the Maqashid Al-Qur'an provides guidelines for universal values relevant to global issues, while the Maqashid Syariah focuses on the application of practical law. Their goals are the same: to produce maslahah (benefit) and prevent mafsadah (harm). By offering a framework that integrates two paradigms to address modern issues such as social justice, the environment, and global peace, this research contributes to the development of Islamic studies

Abstract

This research is based on the ongoing debate among scholars, Islamic academics, and economists regarding the legal status of interest (bunga) in bank credit loans. The study explores the legal reasoning (istinbat al-ahkam) of al-Jashash as an initial reflection of how the ruling on riba was formulated. It also opens the possibility for contextual interpretations and the application of other methods of istinbat to bridge the gap between classical concepts of riba and the contemporary monetary context. This study uses library research and thematic (mawdhu’i) tafsir methodology, considering the data is literary and thematic in nature. The findings indicate that al-Jassas’s interpretation of riba involves both linguistic and contextual ijtihad, employing not only linguistic analysis but also an understanding of the socio-historical context before and after the revelation of the verses concerning riba. In general, al-Jassas specifies (takhsis) the Qur’anic verses with hadith, statements of the companions, and consensus (ijma) of scholars, concluding that riba nasi’ah (deferred/usury-based credit) is prohibited. However, this type of istinbat lacks sufficient theoretical depth to address the legal development of riba in today’s context, and thus requires modification through qiyas. Through qiyas, it is argued that modern bank credit is permissible due to the different legal rationale (‘illah) involved

Abstract

This study examines criminal law on corruption from the perspective of Imam Al-Qurthubi’s Quranic exegesis, Al-Jami’ li Ahkam Al-Qur’an. Corruption, as a crime harming state finances and society, is analyzed through relevant Quranic verses such as risywah (bribery), gulul (embezzlement), and gasab (usurpation), alongside Al-Qurthubi’s interpretations. The research employs a thematic (maudu’i) approach and descriptive analysis of literature. Findings reveal that Al-Qurthubi categorizes corruption as a violation of justice and trust, referencing the concept of suht (ill-gotten wealth), which includes bribery and embezzlement. In Islamic criminal law, corruption does not fall under hudud or qishash but ta’zir, where penalties are determined by authorities based on social and moral impacts. Recommended ta’zir punishments include double restitution, exile, lashing, dismissal from office, imprisonment, and capital punishment for severe cases. The study also highlights the relevance of classical exegesis to modern contexts, particularly in combating corruption in Indonesia. It concludes that integrating sharia principles through ta’zir and positive law enforcement is essential to deter corruption and uphold social justice.

Abstract

M. Quraish Shihab is often considered to be the scholar having the significant influence and role toward the study of the tafsir in contemporary Indonesia. However, the role and influence have not been well discussed yet. This writing found that M. Quraish Shihab indeed has a significant role and influence. Thematic tafsir which becomes the trend of the contemporary tafsir in Indonesia is formed under the influence and the role of M. Quraish Shihab. He was among the first to initiate and manage a thematic interpretation study project in the Indonesian academic world. In addition to being a supervisor for writing thematic interpretations carried out by his students, his activeness in producing works of thematic interpretations is also his way of transmitting his exegesis ideas, and because of that he can influence the dynamics of contemporary Indonesian tafsir studies. Not only that, he also affects the dynamics of the object of study of the tafsir. This influence can be seen from the proliferation of studies that examine his commentary ideas and are inspired by his commentary ideas. In fact, his significant influence can also be seen from the emergence of various appreciations and criticisms directed to him and his interpretative ideas

Abstract

This study examines Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd’s hermeneutical approach to the Quran, focusing on his concept of the Quran as a "cultural product" and its impact on modern exegesis. The method is qualitative content analysis of Abu Zayd’s works and related literature. Data were collected through library research and critically analyzed to identify intellectual patterns, controversies, and implications. Abu Zayd emphasized the historicity of the Quranic text and rejected static sacralization. Using literary-linguistic hermeneutics, he positioned the Quran as a cultural product requiring socio-historical contextualization. This approach led to the relativization of interpretation (e.g., polygamy in QS. An-Nisa: 3) and deconstruction of traditional Islamic sciences. However, it faced severe criticism from Salafi scholars for desacralizing the text. The conclusion is While Abu Zayd’s hermeneutics enables a dynamic Quranic reading, it risks undermining divine authenticity

Abstract

The conclusion of this paper is the Qur'anic perspective on the concept of monotheism (Tawhid) by Abdurrahman Ambo Dalle in the book Al-Hidayah Al-Jaliyyah finds that the proposed concept is consistent and relevant to the Qur'anic verses that serve as the primary reference in the effort to affirm the oneness of God. As materials for the perspective, Tafsir Al-Mishbah and Tafsir Qur’an Kemenag were used, as both are considered relevant to the Indonesian context or locality where Abdurrahman Ambo Dalle resided in South Sulawesi. Quraish Shihab is also regarded as someone who deeply understands the conditions of the region, as he was born in Sidrap, one of the areas inhabited by the Bugis community, and grew up in Makassar. *Tafsir Qur’an Kemenag* is also seen as a representation of Indonesian interpretation, as it was compiled by a team working together to produce the tafsir. What is interesting about Abdurrahman Ambo Dalle's concept of monotheism is the difference in his approach to teaching Tawhid to his audience or congregation. He explains Tawhid by presenting the opposite of what was commonly practiced by the society at that time. This differs from the concept of Tawhid written by theologians or scholars who laid the foundation for the concept of Tawhid.
